CORDEIROS FITE CLUB - CALI COLORS CASH SET (CPC DIASQR ) (1 Viewer)

I appreciate the "no samples" viewpoint.

I'm coming to appreciate it more and more after this weekend - Christ, what a PITA; I had forgotten.

Next time there are going to be 2 options (at best):

-Set: $X (shipped by the easiest method for ME!)

-no set: $0

[emoji3]

And I'm definitely not design-thread guy; if I keep waffling between arc yellow and DG peach for a spot I might ask for input , but for better or worse I want a custom set to be MINE - and I want to see what YOU like in your custom set, not what everybody else who posts a lot likes (I already know. ;))

/soapbox (but I sure do wish I could get samples of Paulo's sets - 'cause I'm greedy like that. [emoji14])

I offered sfrb shipping only for my samples. Only thing that was a hassle was international shipping.

I'm not a big fan of giving out samples.

Being how I wasn't in Chicago (my loss, I know), I'll bite: If not security, what's the reason for the disdain? Not looking to argue, just understand....

The only three reasons I can come up with -- all legitimate, mind you -- are 1) fear, 2) laziness, and 3) selfishness. The security aspect is real. As Ben alluded, it's definitely an added burden and hassle to organize, collect monies, and ship. And owning something that one created that nobody else does or can own has it's own rewards on a personal level.

For me, it's equal parts #2 and #3, with a wee little bit of #1 thrown in for good measure.

I just want to make sure before I reply to you: Are you saying you believe the above are the reasons why I'm not a fan or selling samples?

No, I have no idea your reasons, which is why I asked (especially since you already dismissed security, which would have been my first guess).

For me personally, not offering samples of my own custom work would fall into the categories I described. Simply wondering what your reasons were. Curious, is all, no malice.

If shipping is too much of a hassle, samples at meetups only would be the way to go. More than 1/2 my samples were sold at S@P II. I then gave back all the monies collected within 20 minutes at the table, like I was on a 20 minute cash game free-roll. (n)

Meetups would hinder international chippers though...

Okay, cool, glad I asked before responding... I respect those are the reasons you wouldn't offer samples but those are not my reasons at all...

I omitted my thought process on purpose since I didn't want to go against the practice of 95%+ of custom set owners of offering samples... I think that's a big and great tradition of the forum and didn't want to hinder future sample offerings by explaining my reasons... In hindsight, I should have said only 'unfortunately no samples' rather than 'don't feel good offering samples' as to not start the discussion, oh well...

Security is not a concern of mine at all... I have many sets which single chips are somewhat readily available on eBay and having just one set of many secured didn't even cross my mind... I will continue to use other sets as I and my players love the experience of playing with different and unexpected sets... If I had concerns about the honesty of my players, they wouldn't be playing here in the first place (I might be proven totally wrong in the future, IDK)... Regarding the amount of work to ship all the samples, I 'think' I would have fun doing it... I say I 'think' because I have never done this much shipping... I offered many times to re-ship group buys and non-american sample sets but was never taken on that... It is definetelly not about selfishness either... If someone wanted to build a playable set just like a custom I had designed, I would certainly be honored and give permission... Just to keep with tradition, I even considered creating one chip exclusively to give away as a sample... Sort of in the same vain as @PatTheCat with his tiger chips, although he did offer samples of his other chips as well...

My reasons are much simpler and at the same time, more exoteric and totally silly... I'm sure lots of people will LOL at it, which is fine... In my mind, those chips were created to see action on the felt, that's their reason for being... I want to use them and honor them... I want them one day to have round edges and nicks, I want them to tell stories about money won and lost, about the fun had on the tables... Taken chips away from their purpose doesn't seem fair to "me"...

Also, differently than some people who created almost 'fantasy theme' sets (one day I'll also do the same!), the sets I created are EXTREMELY personal to me... One has to do with the person I love the most in my life, my younger brother, who lives 6,000 miles away from me and the others have to do with the "non-person" I love the most in my life, my bulldog Bubbles... Those were made to honor them and to always have them in my mind, even after they are gone... Having people who never met me, my brother or Bubbles with those chips, for some reason, didn't feel 100% right to me... Nothing to do with selfishness...

My apologies to the collectors... I've seen some awesome sample collections (@Jeff 's come to mind for example) and although I would be honored to have my chips as part of those collections, I also have to respect what I think it's right 'to me'...

In addition to the above, to me, it means more playing with other member's custom sets than owning their sample sets... So I always wanted to play with the Hitching Post sets, so I attended the S@P... I also wanted to play with Zombs' set, Ben's and Brett's (and your 20thC as well) and the fact they were also featured at S@P was a big draw to me... Same can be said about WCB sets, MTTD sets, BBoB sets, DCS sets, SQM sets and so on... I want people wanting to come here to play with my sets if they like it... Again, corky, but you know me... I'm not shy about how I feel about things, LOL!!

BTW, my wife on SAT. morning said it was a pleasure meeting you as well. Thought that you seemed like a genuinely nice guy (of which I confirmed). Another guest @mike32 brought a bottle of wine for my wife.

Great group of guys (sorry for the thread jack, lol).

I totally agree with Paulo on this for all the same reasons. I'll also add this regarding the future of 3 CPC orders in the pipeline. For the Denver meet up chip, you gotta be there to get one. Plain and simple. They are being made for one event. For the others I'm not offering samples again but I do understand that some of the people here I consider good friends love them. There are a few others who I hold in special high regard for personal reasons. I'm making exceptions for those people. They will know who they are when free samples arrive in the mail unannounced.

Its kind of funny. I refer to guys on here when I'm talking to my wife, or work acquaintances, ect....as friends. Most I've never met. Their great guys on here. That's all I need.

I completely get this. I am not against samples and have offered them in the past, but this is partially the reason I do not collect them.

I would rather make it to other games and play in other people's rooms with their chips. I guess id rather collect the experience than the chips.

Not to disrespect collecting at all. There are some major league impressive collections on here. I just think there is something special about playing on a set in its room.

Can understand both points of view, but nothing is cooler than sparking up a conversation when you bring another PCF custom chip as a card capper and someone asks where it's from. Gives you a chance to explain PCF and the custom chip community

Yes, yes, yes!!! The new cash set is here! I am absolutely blown away by the chips!!! I'm certainly biased but I LOVE, LOVE the new sets!

It will be a few days before both new sets, tourney and cash, are oiled and ready for their shooting... Loads of work ahead... New thread to come...

Oh my! Again, that soon?
You're my hero!

Still love the frac and the $5, but I'll be damned if that is quickly becoming one of my favorite $100s. Beautiful.

Wow, those look great, Paulo! Some of the nicest-looking boxes I've seen from CPC in quite awhile! Close-up pro0n shots of the end labels would be great! Samples available?
