Giveaway David O's 10,000 post giveaway (2 Viewers)

IN!

I'm a n00b chipper compared to most on PCF (hence why I should win - hehe!). My story is a good one and starts with the classic trash dice chips.

I was starting to get back into poker many years ago and was watching a lot of Poker After Dark and WSOP. You know, the big bubble, falling in love with all the great characters, Dwan, Selbst, DNegs, Brunson, Laak, Russo, and more. My wife watched some with me, and so when it came time for my birthday, she got me a joke set of pink poker chips. They are actually decent quality for non-denom. plastics. I still have them, and we use them as tokens to count other things. Anyways, a few weeks later, she gets an email that the site had been compromised. "We don't expect anything, just want to let you know, etc." But a few days later charges for expensive cameras and camera equipment started showing up on her credit card! Sure enough, the hackers had got all the CC info. used to purchase items from the site. We had to open claims and changes cards and sweat it out, LOL. It all turned out fine but added lots of stress we didn't need. In the end it worked out...we got to keep the points from the purchases, LOL. Anyways, be careful who you give CC info. to!

Good luck to all in the give away!

David, I’ll leave the giveaway to more deserving people, I just wanted to congratulate you on a fantastic milestone. You’re a gentleman beyond reproach, and I so enjoyed meeting you in Vegas.

Your advice and support over the past few months have been invaluable, and the community is all the better because of your presence.

Congrats again, my friend! See you in a couple of weeks.

My short story is that I have always had an affinity for chips, but was ignorant of what was truly out there until I stumbled into this place and quickly learned what I was missing out on. My love for chips has only gone up from there (to my wallet's chagrin), especially with having all these other absolute degens around who can relate to chipping and what all that entails. Despite random bouts of drama/noise, most people here are helpful, friendly, and contribute to what makes chipping what it is. I was hoping to catch the Degen in Dallas meetup to toss cards around with other chippers, but one of my best friend's is getting married the same weekend. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities down the line though.

Thanks David for the work y'all do around here and 10k posts!

Hobby I started this year I didn’t know I wanted to do.

I have an addictive personality so there you have it.

I got to where I needed to know everything regarding poker.

Congrats @David O :) and in please.

As @inca911 mentioned, chips are nice, but it’s the friendships that matter.

I’ve always been into collecting. As a kid it was trading cards, pogs, rocks & stickers. My teens and early college years were into clothes and shoes since I worked for a popular clothing boutique. All I cared about collecting were high priced denim jeans and sneakers, more specifically Air Jordan’s, Nike Dunks, and special collaborations. My interests and style have changed over the years except for poker. Collecting poker chips just shifted my addictions to the hobby I continue to care about.

in, please!

I started collecting chip back in 2009.
During my first USA trip, I visited Mohegan Sun casino and took a 1$ chip. A few month after, I took 0.50 and 1 euro chips from Malta's casino.
These 3 chips were the beginning....

Congrats @David O, I'm in. Joined recently to upgrade some basic poker chips, stick around for all the awesome people I've met and amazing wealth of information all around. I never knew such creativity existed with people putting together amazing custom sets and have been inspired to have a go at one of my own. Still early, but it's been a fun ride and I look forward to the elusive finish line when my first set is complete.

Congrats @David O ! Well deserved milestone, it's been great knowing you all of these years!
My story would be the one where you picked me up to take me to the Vegas airport after my deep run in the WSOP Monster stack :)
Thanks for being such a great friend!
Don't really need to be but I'll say IN anyway. ;)

Not in, but I have to say that David stands out as one of the nicest guys in a group or predominantly nice guys. Even my wife, The Queen Herself, agrees.
And believe me, the most valuable chips in this give-away are the All-In at the Alamo specials.

Boy, we really need aa AIATA trip to San Antonio soon... :cool

(You'd better keep plugging away, bucko, 'cause I'm only a couple of hundred posts behind you!)

I can honestly say I've gotten all sorts of help from a bunch of patient people as I learn this hobby. Living on the West Coast makes it feel like I'm missing out on the meetups, but Vegas is definitely within my reach, and I will prepare for the next one so I can see you all face-to-face.

I will say that I always seem to gravitate to the expensive stuff, so naturally my first set of chips are THCs. But truth be told, I'm really excited to be a part of the PP GB; that feels like an exclusive club to be in!

I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember, but it is a rare breed that can bond over games, so friends were tough to come by. After moving to Tennessee, the ability to find good, intelligent people that liked to play games was... well, lets just say there aren't a lot of them in these here parts.

Then the Poker Boom hit. As a gamer, I splurged on my first set of custom chips - spending a godless amount of money - somewhere in the ballpark of $200 o_O. Having never played poker (outside of peanuts and pennies when I was a boy scout), I did my research on how to run a game properly. This led me to the now defunct HomePokerTourney.com.

Between Poker's mainstream popularity and the good advice from HPT, my game eventually outgrew my set. Someone on HPT (I believe it was @nitzilla ) gave me the inside track to a Group Buy occurring on the now defunct ChipTalk.net. The flood gates had opened...

Today, my game runs strong and I try my best to pass on the stuff I've learned to those new to hosting so future generations will be able to run great games and not have to struggle with the same mistakes I've made. I post the occasional Vegas trip repost to help to inform and to entertain.

16 years later, the friends I've met here have been incredible. I remember my first Meetup, and thinking "This is crazy, I'm going to meet some guy from the internet with a bunch of money in my pocket". Today I have traveled as far as British Columbia, Florida, and Iceland. Freaking ICELAND! The best part, is I travel not for the poker - I get plenty of that at home - but for the guys and gals from PCF.

We are a diverse group, and there will occasionally be online "tiffs", but anyone that thinks that we are no longer a community has not felt the joy of a members baby photos, or the sorrow as a fellow member loses someone dear. We are all in this together. Some are lucky enough to attend more Meetups, some simply cannot make any, but thorough the power of the internet, we come together with a few simple clicks.

These poker chips have replaced my fantasy football addiction, which is painful because the other made money lol. Love the diversity of chips, and the quest to track down that perfect chip.

I started to search for poker chips when I was a kid and watched a Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill western movie on tv.
I was able to get some „jetons“ in a local toyshop, didn’t like them, but had to have at least some jetons instead of poker chips.

Later, the www was pretty new to be used for daily searches, I started to search for poker chips and some years later I came across CT. That was my financial ruin. ;)

I have 81 entries so far up to here. a couple of more days to enter. Thank you to those that have and thank you for the stories.

Wow, what a blast reading the posts so far. It brings back so many great memories.

I can remember getting into this whole thing! What a ride it has been since my first full set of Paulsons!. It was a large set of Grand Victorias. Then the Nevada bug bit me when I won the chance to purchase a small Tropicana set from Harley! Thanks, @H|Q !

So then I attended my first meetup which was at the Hitching Post. I met so many of the great chippers that I now call friends. I would love to name the mall but I would hate to leave anyone out. Anyway, some of those people have become great friends. Some have already posted here and I thank you for that. A few that I have to call out individually are @inca911 @k9dr @Tommy @Poker Zombie @Mrs Poker Zombie @ChaosRock @BGinGA @Mr Tree @slisk250 @pltrgyst @bivey @nitzilla @Psypher1000 @CraigT78 @DrStrange @Jeff. Wow, I was only going to name a few and the names keep coming. Some of these great people saw me at my best and even helped me get through the worst part of my life. To these folks, I owe a huge thank you. I love these guys and many others that are on here. Many people have touched my life and have contributed to me being a better person and a better chipper. I thank each of you for this and even though I may not have mentioned you, you know who you are and what you did for me and the community.

From the bottom of my heart, Thank you!

Ok, let's get back to this give away and keep on chipping

Congratulation on being such a prolific poster, David! I love that you are doing something...I meant to for my 1000th post, but apparently being a primary poster for the meet caused me to shoot past that without noticing. LOL Maybe I'll come up with something...

Anyways.... I'm a chipper because I had no idea it would be so much fun! When @Poker Zombie and I met, I was running game demos at a convention for two different (but sympatico) companies. From that, Kublai, the lead zombie in Give Me the Brain, became iconic for what makes us "us". Knowing the artist allowed me to commission Kublai playing poker. Something we did before we even had our custom poker chip set.

Out of the whole process, what stands out was when we tested the sample chips from various companies to make a decision of just who to buy from for that first set. I've actually told this story by request at Toastmasters, something I think is impressive because people that have asked me to do the story don't actually play poker with me (heck, one of them doesn't even play poker). I think it is because they love the extremes we did during testing. This includes the spill test by soaking the chips in a bowl of water (even knowing we'd clean up a spill MUCH faster than that) and testing their playing durability... by putting them in a kitchen aid....for 10minutes. It was the loudest thing I've ever heard! o_O Heck, it makes me chuckle just typing this out.

But out of all that, we picked a company, got chips, and started a poker group. Many of our players had never played poker before they joined the Zombie Poker Dinner Club. A number of them have gone on to play in casinos, which makes me very proud. With this group, we've celebrated hosting our 100th game, had fun when we paid off our house by having a casino-style bonus that night, held special events like the Kentucky Derby (with full dress theme) and wear cowboy hats when we have a bounty night, and finish each season with a dinner of steak!

I'm a chipper because I had no idea it would be so much fun!

I've only been into poker for about 2 years, since I turned 18. I wanted to get my friends into it so we started out playing with dice chips.
I wanted to get some better chips so I ordered some monte carlo ABS chips. My parents were like, that's a lot of money to be spending on chips @16c/chip.
Imagine what they think now  :ROFLMAO:

For one... congratulations David!! That is a huge achievement brother!! Hapoy to help on that Elcortez journey of yours!

So freaking many people have helped me on my chipping journey, it is almost impossible to only pick one!

I'm going to go with @RivieraDanny !! When he made his big score I reach out with a hope and a prayer that he would help me finish my rack of Pick Hobson fracs. He didn't have to.. could have told me to go screw myself or whatever else! Instead on Easter this year I am crying inthe Baltimore zoo with family as Danny responds "sure man.. when I get home and get everything sorted out, I would live to help you complete that rack!"

Furthermore... when price came up I was honest, saying I have been paying around $18 per chip.. he could have asked more and I probably would have paid it. Not going to disclose that final number but it was far less than that! Again helping a friend and not focusing on max profit!!

When we finally got to meet Danny in Vegas with you David, I already had a feeling we were going to get along. Weird coincidence that it was the three of us battling it out there in the end at "the meet in ththe suite" but either way was awesome to finally meet and play with both of you!!

Danny, David you are both our friends and I look forward to our next meet up together!!

Felliw Chipper Ben
That was a great time and really enjoyed playing

PCF has some nice chips, but the friends I've made on this forum and the adventures we have had over these past many years are truly priceless. When I accepted an invitation to go to Florida from some unknown random internet poker guy named @k9dr, little did I know what I was getting myself info. After traveling to 10 different meetup events in CY2016 alone, I wouldn't change a thing. I've now logged over 80,000 poker meetup miles across about 40 PCF events, hosted two MinneMania events at my house, bought out a casino, and completed trips to Iceland + Anchorage (which is further than Reykjavik) to play cards with these same strangers I met 5 years ago. For all of you that have shared your stories, your homes, and your friendship, I am truly grateful. I'd list names, but there are truly too many to count. I'm glad to call you my friends, including our resident clown @David O. Congrats on the milestone!

A trip down memory lane from one of my first meetup tables: @k9dr, @Jeff, @Ronoh (not pictured), @ChaosRock, @detroitdad, @Ben

What a great pic. Not sure if that was the year I was there but I really enjoyed spending time with all in the pic. Forrest, you are one of the best and I really miss you brother. Hope all is well.

Please put others in the giveaway, not me. I've got plenty of poker stuff, but I did want to say congratulations on 10,000 posts, and that its a pleasure to have gotten to know you over the years.
Great getting to know you as well

Another great pic of some great people I can call friends. I really enjoyed that trip and spending time with some great friends! Yes the friendships are way more valuable to me than the chips.

LOL, I really enjoyed that trip! Thank you as well

In please! Awesome giveaway. Congrats on your 10K posts!

I've told quite often how I got involved in this hobby. Back at the beginning of the pandemic (Mar/April 2020) I started thinking about getting an INEXPENSIVE set of poker chips. I liked real clay chips, but knew that I would NEVER (LOL) spend that kind of money on poker chips. I had been reading that Claysmith were the top of the line retail chips and were JUST AS GOOD as the casino chips. So I went looking for a place to find some reviews. And landed here!

To make a very long story a little bit shorter, I eventually settled on a nice set of PGI 8V chips. (because they were cheaper than Milanos - LOL! ) through the 8Vs I met @SeanGecko (give him an entry!) We started talking about cards mold. I designed a full custom tournament set of those, then ended up buying several other sets, running a DB group buy, and now I'm about to run another cards mold GB. AND along the way I've bought 3 playable sets of clay casino and fantasy clay chips. I should have just spent $2 grand on a great set of Paulson clays in the beginning and then WENT AWAY! I would have come out way ahead financially. But then I wouldn't have made DOZENS of new PCF friends. Now PCF is such a huge part of my life, I can't really imagine what it would be like without it.

Great idea for a giveaway and congrats on hitting 10,000 posts! I'm in

When I got inspired to upgrade my dice chips set earlier this year I had no idea I would end up participating daily in a poker chip forum. I thought I'd buy a set and be done with it, but the people here are awesome, and I found myself laughing at the shenanigans/memes/drama/scrub donkey tchotchkes and excited by the stories and beautiful sets people posted. I quickly realized that the set of Milanos I bought to replace my dice chips wasn't going to cut it for long and within a few weeks I was meeting up with a local chipper to play some poker at his house game and buy my first Paulson chips. Since then I've been floored by the incredible kindness/generosity of members here and found myself wanting to pay it forward and spread the chipping love. I'm working on getting a regular home game going now and a bunch of my friends have gotten back into poker again recently. It's been an awesome journey, and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.
