Deadman's Bay - Peter Island (Empress Star Relabels) - Cali Cash Set Pr0n (1 Viewer)

I do agree that for this particular inlay the larger label looks better....

Agreed. I think your chips are a distinct improvement.

This set was actually my least favorite of all the StarChips. If they'd had the larger inlays, it would have appealed much more to me.

nice work Dan ( and Gear) beautiful set.

I can definitely see myself dragging this pot. :)

In this photo the labels look very nearly identical except for size. However it doesn't really tell the whole story... laminated labels are better in every way: look, feel, and sound. I sincerely believe that if one were to handle the unlaminated overlabelled chip alongside the laminated inlay-replaced chip, the choice would not be quite so clear.

I think I mentioned a few times in this thread that the inlay replacements are far superior in terms of feel. Even with the aesthetic advantage of the larger inlays, I was still on the fence about which way to go for the better part of a year before I decided. Even now, after the fact, I'm still torn. That's how much I prefer inlay replacements.

Chris, with your milling capability, is it not also possible to first remove the existing inlays and then mill out the recess to fit a larger diameter laminated inlay replacement?

Technically, probably, although I haven't tried it. Also in most cases (most chips) there isn't a lot of room to expand. In other words if you removed an SCV inlay and then milled it, the most you could add would be maybe another 0.050" all the way around before running into the mold area. That is, SCV inlays are 7/8" or 0.875" and the recess is 0.975". Cutting into the mold area would not look good.

What diameter are the Casablanca oversize inlays?

These, for example?

The recess is the same size as any other SCV. The inlays are 1" or perhaps started out as 1.0625" (1-1/16").

If I get the implication ... yes, you could cut into the mold area a little bit, as long as you don't hit the hats & canes part.

I always had a feeling those Casablanca inlays were redone, due to them taking up so much room.

@Gear beat me to it by seconds....

However, I did consider inlay replacements (and still might down the road). I do greatly prefer inlay replacements overall, but it's a lot of labor (or additional cost). Also, for this particular design, I wasn't even sure the inlay replacements looked better. So for the time being, I went with labels over the existing inlays.

Here's a few pictures of the prototypes of the inlays replacement version. (label over inlays on the left, inlay replacements on the right).

I like the look of the inlay replacement better

<---Big fan of both, with a slight edge toward inlay replacement. But, if I had to do all the work, I probably would have chosen the other route, too.

I feel like the recess on the oversized Casablanca's is definitely larger, no?

Planning a small expansion on these. Adding two racks of quarters (relabeled mint Casablanca gray 818 $100 chips), another rack of $1 chips (blurple ES2T T500), and three racks of $5 chips (arc yellow ES2T T1000). This should make it well suited to lower stakes quarter blind games and give me the ability to comfortably spread two tables (future meetup preparation?)

Current set breakdown (1000 chips)
200 x $1
600 x $5
100 x $25
100 x $100

New set breakdown (1600 chips)
200 x $0.25
300
x $1
900 x $5
100 x $25
100 x $100

As if this set isn’t baller enough already.

That Casablanca 818 will look great with the rest. Hats off to you sir.

The Casa 818s was always been an option on the table as I was figuring this set out. I've had them in the $0.25, $1, and $25 position at one time or another. But the blurple/arc yellow combo was too compelling as a $1/5 cali color chips combo that putting in the $1 position was probably never going to happen.

Ultimately it made sense to use them as quarters where they probably wouldn't share table time with the white $100 chips. Not that you'd mix them up too often, but if there are four denominations on the table at once, I'd prefer just one of them be a non-colorful chip. So for 1/2 games the gray quarter isn't in play, and for $0.25/0.50 games, the white $100 pretty much never in play either.

I agree that the $1/$5 combo is perfect. Those things are so bright.

I also love the honeymoon tribute theme that you’ve gone with. You’ve inspired me with it and I’m strongly considering doing the same with a milling project I’ve got planned. I’ve already run it past the wife to be and she likes the idea.

Brilliant way to get wifey approval of a new chipset. Everyone here should take note, next time they want a new set.

These things are the certifiable bomb. I couldn't seem to hold onto them for more than a few minutes, but they are so pretty.
