Pulled out of the food coma - time to post Thanksgiving photos! First course, Squash soup with pumpkin oil. Paired with an unoaked Chardonnay...

While this goes down, the bird is smoking on the grill, using freshly cut wood from the apple tree...

The observant will notice the second course smoking along with the turkey, prosciutto wrapped shrimp. Found some monster 10-12 shrimp!

The shrimp were plated with a kickin' roasted corn salsa.

The bird at rest, aromatically stuffed with apples, lemons, and onions.

Like any Thanksgiving meal, we have (clockwise from the wine):
2016-11-24 18.53.57.jpg

  • A Cab from Napa - very berry forward. Stood up to the smoky bird without overpowering it.
  • Cranberry sauce. We went from the can this year, because I have not been well lately, so one shortcut was allowed.
  • Crescent rolls. OK, 2 shortcuts.
  • A "Light" gravy. Made with oven-roasted turkey stock/drippings and white wine.
  • "Dark" gravy. Made from the smoked turkey drippings, the neck, the heart and gizzard. By far the best of the 2 gravies, provided you don't get squeamish knowing it's made with organ meat.
  • Mashed Golden Potatoes
  • Basil-Honey Carrots. First year for Mrs Zombie to slice the carrots in a crinkle-cut fashion.
  • Green Bean Casserole. We made the soup from chanterelle and oyster mushrooms this year, and it was a monster win.
  • Turkey (mentioned above)
  • Bread and Cranberry dressing. Just because we didn't make thge cranberry sauce from scratch, doesn't mean we don't have a use for cranberries.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving as much as we did. And yes, all of this is just for two people. There's an Apple-Rum pie as well, but it didn't get hit until breakfast, because... #stuffed.

Christ, my palette might be happy, but I think my stomach would be screaming I'm still hungry...... lol

I took it easy over the weekend. My stomach is still messed up from the Diverticulitis attack two weeks ago :( Had exactly one bourbon on Friday night. Pretty much staying in the "bland" category for now :(

Make sure you do what you are supposed to so when you get to Denver we can spice the shit out of everything.

Yes, we had a crazy amount of food left over from Thanksgiving. After the standard reheated turkey platter, turkey sandwiches, turkey soup and turkey salad, it was time to get innovative. Last night it was Shepard's Pie*, with green bean casserole leftovers and turkey, topped with mashed potatoes.

*I'm fully aware that shepards pie is made with lamb, not beef (or turkey). This is because shepherds watch over sheep not cows. However, the thought of shepherds trying to herd up a rafter of turkeys (making them sheprafters i suppose) is quite humorous to me, so I retained the sheperds pie moniker.

Next stop on the leftover dinner train: Buffalo.

Breaded and fried strips of turkey and tossed it in a traditional buffalo sauce (melted butter, hot sauce, white pepper, and 100,000 Scoville chili pepper powder) served on a salad. Cranberry-ranch dipping sauce on the side (not shown).

Starting to wonder, what is the over/under for days before food poisoning sets in.

One of my top three dishes that Colleen makes. It is simple, delicious, and downright fucking fantastic.

Chicken Noodle soup.

She uses simple, basic ingredients, cooks the noodles in the chicken stock. WOW........The bow tie noodles are an absolute must

A cute story (well, cute to me anyways). We were about a year and half or so into our marriage. It was middle of winter. I was working at a lumber yard warehouse. I was outside most of the day in PA. I was feeling under the weather so Colleen makes me some of her homemade chicken noodle soup.

Me: Thanks hun, but I don't really eat soup (my mom only ever made the campbells condensed soup that is horrific).

Colleen: What, who doesn't eat soup. OK, It'll be on the stove if you change your mind.

Me: Damn that smells good, let me give it a try.

Me: WOW, that is pants dropping fucking fantastic :)

Colleen: put your pants back on.

Some of the creations in this thread are just incredible. I cook a lot but compared to some of the meals you folks are making it kind of feels like I'm eating this:

Disclaimer: NOT my photo. I can't even eat a Mcdonalds fry without getting sick.

I sharted just looking at that pic. It's a good thing I keep a change of underwear at work.

Fast food just screws me all up anymore. Since the diverticulitis attack I'm just downright scared to eat that crap

Yeah I haven't eaten at a place like McDonalds in over a decade. I literally would be lucky to make it home before things got ugly...

I didn't take a pic of dinner, but when dessert comes out looking this nice, I just gotta save it for posterity.
