eBay Buyer Beware (2 Viewers)

Which is exactly what I said. You asked what the gripe was so I told you.

I think there was a bit of confusion from the beginning (of this thread) in terms of whether OP was primarily writing because he was upset with eBays policy or the seller shorting him a rack. While he was upset about both I'm sure, I assume his primary motivation for posting was to complain about eBay's policy.

This was his post (emphasis added):

I purchased about 1800-1900 chips, was short a rack of chips worth about $1/each. Since I did get a deal, it was my decision to keep the lot. However, it did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

My biggest issue seems to be with eBay. There policies almost always favor the buyer, except in this case.

His issue/gripe as stated above seems to be with eBay (in addition to the seller). My question was directed towards the eBay portion of the issue.

I guess that could be true. When I read it it seemed pretty obvious to be it was just a general buyer beware that this sort of scam leaves one without recourse. We can argue over whether that's the fault of eBay or unscrupulous sellers, but in any case the angle is available if the OP is right about eBay's policies.

I stand (well, I'm sitting but I'll stand up to click "reply") corrected. Still a good alert to put out with regard to the potential scam.

And reminds me that I meant to post about a new angle a guy pulled on me this week at the Borg that I have somehow never seen before.

Also meant to post earlier that I agree with everyone saying the seller should be outed. Ridiculous to complain about scammers but not out them imo.

AFAIK, the OP is correct about the policy. eBay will not force a seller to do a partial refund. (However a seller can choose to do that if they wish). eBay can force a seller to do a full refund, but that requires the buyer to send back the item.

It's true, with eBay, you get to choose to keep what you get, return for refund, or work something out with the seller --which is going to be difficult in many circumstances. That's pretty much your choices. As others have indicated, it would be impossible to have a partial refund policy.

Agreed, it really sucks that it happened. However, you got a good deal (actually a great deal)...probably should just move on, yes?

Karma is a bitch. His shady deal will come back to bite him. I don't deal a lot with eBay so I have never really run afoul of thier policies.

Fyi: if you're afraid of blowback by outing them, just know that on every chip site I've ever been on it was generally acceptable to out an eBay seller as long as you tried reasonably to solve the issue with no luck.

I also have had situations like this before, twice. I called eBay first for options.

I told the seller eBay agrees you will owe me a full 100% refund (including the shipping I paid). You will have to cover shipping back to you and lose the shipping you paid to send it here. Or partial refund me xx amount (less than lost shipping) and both times seller agreed on partial refund.

Jesus tits! Ok. Let me just clear this up once and for all.

Number one. I posted this as a warning to other members on PCF. Partial refunds won't happen unless the other party communicates. IMO, it's not hard to figure out how much "a chip" is worth based on sales history and multiply that by the number not recieved.

Number two. I did not post this for sympathy or to out the seller. However, because so many people are bitching about it, the seller is matt_elder.

Now, let me explain the reason I didn't want to out the seller. 1.) It wasn't my intention, 2.) I don't need blowback, 3.) Once I expose the seller, my eBay ID is exposed. This means you can see my purchase history, which is none of your business.

So, this has become yet another lesson in posting anything here in the forum. My original intention has become misconstrued and turned into finger pointing. It won't happen again.

Now, for those that absolutely needed to know the seller, feel free to go to bat for me when certain members start bitching about me buying there and selling here or vice versa.

Jesus tits?

How about fucking flying spaghetti monsters. It's not a fucking attack on you, it's a simple request so future buyers are aware and don't end up in the same predicament. I realize you are new but it's something we usually will do to help ALL member here.

No one gives two shits about your eBay ID and we can't see it anyway unless you leave feedback and we spend time tracking all feedback usernames. Who the fuck cares enough to do that.

With all due respect, you've not seen my inbox or most of the attacks I've endured (because of moderation). So, yeah...i, a little gunshy sharing information because SOME members here have and will use it against me.

I tried sharing something in the OP and it turned into something it was not. So, if you're unhappy with my demeanor, take it up with the others who think it's their job to tell me what to do and when.

I'm just sayin...understand where I'm coming from, that's all.

Also Batman your secret identity is safe.

Besides, is it that big of deal for people to know your user name? People "expose" their user names all the time. See "eBay: (Mine)" listings.

My eBay username is bloodnfire. You'll be shocked and amazed to find that I bid on poker chips, silver strikes, other things casino related. I might even buy some LoudMouth golf pants once in a while. Yep, my waist size will be exposed too, if you dig too far into my past eBay purchases.

Seriously? Pretty sure nobody cares.

I think more than likely he thought he had the correct amount and sent what he had. I'd be happy with the 1800 I got.

I had 3 racks missing once from about 1400 and it sucked, but the were Tahoe tourney chips and I was glad to get the ones that made it

Update: eBay has removed my negative feedback. I wish I were joking.

---

Recently, you opened an eBay Buyer Protection case for Paulson chip set . We also received the feedback you left for the transaction, but it's been removed from the seller's feedback profile because of a recent decision on the eBay Buyer Protection case.

The same thing happened to me about a month ago. It wasn't worth sending them back for a refund, so i just left a negative and explained in the feedback, short by 200+ our of around 700 chips and no communication. Luckily it wasn't big $ or chips that i really really wanted. Just some RT plastic fantasy/replica chips. Based on the other crap they were selling and how it was shipped, i tend to think they really didn't count them correctly. Sucks, either way though.

Gmunny,
Which RT Plastics series were they? I have been searching high and low for Capone's Casino. Jeff- suited67

That's fine, but communicate with me.

That's some bullshit right there. I've been f'd over by eBay as a seller... Not chip related, but a buyer not being able to legitimately leave negative feedback is shit... Dude has 90% feedback already... Beware

No, he had 90% feedback after my negative...it should now revert to 100%.

So the seller has only 10 transactions? That's some BS that eBay took down legitimate negative feedback. I'd try putting it back up again later, if possible.

Thanks for outing him, btw -- it's for the betterment of the community, which means/includes you in the long term.

Nobody here gives a crap about your eBay history, and neither should you....unless your paranoia reflects guilt or something else you'd like to hide.

Sorry not Capones, they were Sands replica. I do think I have a rack of Capones somewhere, just can't recall the denom.

And THIS is why I fucking HATE eBay...

Not joking about this... but eBay recruiters have contacted me several times trying to get me to "join the team" as a data scientist. I have seriously contemplated taking a position there with the sole intention of fucking them out of tens of millions of dollars. I honestly might do it someday... But for now, I'll keep my better job :)
