Explain the Wynn Chip Hype to Me Like I'm a 4 Year Old (4 Viewers)

What the hell dude you haven't even seen my final mockup.

One of my pet peeves in life is people telling me their dreams (let me guess, the horse turned into a lizard with your third grade teachers face and psoriasis sores on it's elbows, right?) but I am going to tell you one I had. :D lol

True story, the other night I dreamed I had a custom set made and when I posted the pron (which was on the tv, not the computer) everybody started saying they were painted dice chips and started taking their names off my sample set list (which was velcro name tags on one of those big soft board things that are in offices), then someone grabbed a chip and broke it and it crumbled like chalk. (then i think someone turned into a horse or something blah blah blah blah)

I think I have deep seated fears of a future custom set being rejected. :( :D

Ok, I'll call you down on that one. You have the Wynn's tax returns from the production year available to you?

No, I don't have access to the Wynn's tax returns from the production year. I also don't think I would need it to make the claim that they would have written off the cost of these chips as a business expense. It would be foolish to think otherwise, would it not?

When I bought my set, I wasn't sure how much I was going to like it. I knew I liked the looks of the chips, but feel is also very important to me, and thus far every Paulson chip I've put my hands on besides the THC mold, I've hated. So I was a bit nervous about these. However, once they arrived and I got to feel them, I was HOOKED! They're really incredible chips.

As someone with both Mapes and Wynn Tourney chips, and who is not shy about sharing his opinion on TRK being better than Paulsons, I can tell you that I like these chips better than my Mapes. Don't get me wrong, Mapes are EPIC! And I still like the colors, inlay, and spots on the Mapes as my #1 favorite looking chip, but when you get both of these sets in your hands and compare them, you'll know what I mean. They are absolutely PERFECT CHIPS for my tastes.

I'm not making the argument that just because Josh says so, they're the "best tourney set ever", but I also don't think he'd make that statement lightly. He's had a lot of chips come through his hands over the years, and he knows quality when he sees it. Of course, quality is subjective, and some other VERY well known chippers who know their shit (like @BGinGA) have different opinions, but the fact that Josh places these as his #1 all time favorite tourney set definitely peaked my interest in the set.

Have you had a chance to feel these in person yet BG? I'd be curious if you'd change your mind after feeling them.

blah blah blah blah These are OBVIOUSLY knock off, relabeled home market chips; you, lifta, josh, tommy, and who ever else likes these chips need to GTFO immediately and only come back when you all have your preferences properly aligned. And don't even think of replying to me either, I'm ignoring all you sickos who would think these are bad ass chips.

Nothing against Josh, but he is occasionally given to extreme hyperbole in his assessments of things he has for sale.

:ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO: ... I don't know what you're talking about!

so, So, SO misguided. In my world there is no such thing as a grail set. Monogamy is a fine idea in its proper place, but there is something wonderful to be said for being able to host a dozen nights and never using the same set twice.

DrStrange
And loving every single one of them. (y)

Let's see...

Scroll
THC (I lump LCV and SCV into the same mold)
Mixed House mold
Stardust
Four suits
LGK
LCrown
Soon to be RHC
Soon to be MD-51
Soon to be HHR

And those are just the molds. I'm workin' on it!

I like them - at the lower prices...

Doesn't seem mentioned, but tourney sets with high denoms (5000s), especially name recognizable casinos are really rare.

Quite possibly my Grail set right there

Ya, those are so, so sick! I must say, I can't argue with him saying they're the best hot stamped set out there. At least for my tastes and for what I've seen to date.

^^^^THIS^^^^

Go find me another Paulson set that has a full tourney denom range and that are all in the same condition, let alone all new. And once you find one, let me know how much you'd have to pay per chip for those 1k and 5k denoms... They might be out there, but I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Ya, ACF are definitely in the Holy Grail category for me too. But finding them, especially if you're not French, won't be easy, or cheap. A lone wolf of the 1000s just went for $700, if my memory serves me well.

I assume we're limiting this to non-home sets. Two other Paulson sets with 5k chips that come to mind are the Ritz Carlton and the Winner Club. No idea on pricing, but not cheap in general. I think some of the lower Ritz denoms are somewhat worn, but not terribly so. The Winner Club chips are also 47mm and 50mm no mold in some denominations (5k, 10k, 50k) for what that's worth, but I don't think they go below the 43mm IHC 1k chip.

I've also heard you can get nice 5k chips straight from places like the Bellagio and Aria, but their asking price is $5k each and I hear they don't accept best offers. YMMV on condition as well.

It's all a matter of opinion and perception. These are beautiful chips, those bright colors on the T500's and T1k's are nuts in person. Limited availability, and demand appear to have driven prices.

As I would say it to a four year old:
These chippies expensive but they sure are perty!

I think that pretty much describes the Stardust Poker Mansion tournament chips and I have 25K chips too. My average cost was probably about 3 bucks a piece for the set. 1K 4 bucks, 5K, 6 bucks...and get this...they are from Canada! Imported friggin' chips! Time for a flip raffle and cash in.. :whistling:

Seriously, the ACF chips are in another league and very exclusive....to some ;)

That's the other thing I like about this set. Almost everyone has a different favorite chip. I've heard a few people like the 500 & 1k the most, several like the 25 the most, and Mel and I both like the 5000 and 100 the most. Beautiful set!

So if you don't have the tax returns, The claim
I can sure as shit guarantee you The Wynn's tax returns from their production year would also agree with me. To claim that they're not is simply disingenuous.
is itself disingenuous.

I know you're probably an honest guy selling off a part of a chip set that he doesn't need to help mitigate the costs of building an awesome set. No problem there. However, I will always stick up for the chipping community and am now obligated to point out:
  • A man tries to make a sale of some nice chips.
  • That man posts an untrue statement to claim that these chips used to belong to the Wynn.
  • There is a factual claim that the Wynn could never, ever use these chips in casino play.
I find it unlikely that a business like the Wynn would waste money buying a set of chips that they could never use. Even allowing them anywhere near the casino would be a terrible idea, for fear that they were accidently put out on the floor and the casino gets fined by the gaming commission.

The only "proof" that we have indicating that there are even prototypes is a page from the Chipguide, which also indicates prototypes were made on the Sun Mold - which these were not.

So yes, these are nice chips. But the evidence is stacked in the favor indicating that these are knock-offs. For that reason, I do not understand the hype. If people are getting hyped because they think these were from the Wynn, I feel that they are being misled by the seller. If they are getting hyped because they find them to be one of many Holy Grails in their cupboard of grails, then it makes perfect sence.

Just curious - do we even know if they're Paulsons given that they're no-mold chips? I didn't think Paulson even made a no-mold....

do we even know if they're Paulsons given that they're no-mold chips?

Yes, I think that's been relatively established. BCC did not produce at least one of the spot configs in the set, or at least as far as we know.....

Seems like the indentation for the inlay is closer to the center of the chip than the Wynn Tourney set, does Paulson have multiple versions of the plain mold?
