Hi im looking for help in distributing 200 chips for a $10 buy in poker tournament.
I have 200 chips in 5 different colors. Plan on playing with 5 people. Would like the tournament to last around 3-4 hours.
40 white chips
40 red chips
40 green chips
40 blue chips
40 black chips

I can get some more chips but this is what I have for now (and wanna see if that's enough)
Total doesnt need to amount to $10, that's more for prize money at the end of the night. I was thinking 1st gets $30, 2nd $15 and 3rd 5$.

Also, if a player busts early, would it impact the game negatively if I let them re-enter with a limited stack but have them place 5th overall? Just so they can keep playing.

Thanks!

You will probably find you want more chips. But working with what you have you could do the following:

10,000 starting chips, blinds start at 25/50 and go up every 20 min.

8x green (25)
8x black (100)
8x blue (500)
5x white (1000)

You can let people rebuy and give them a fresh 10,000. You can just give them 10x white chips for this. If there's another rebuy then 2x red (5,000). If someone rebuys and ends up in first or second just pay them accordingly.

I would not pay out three places with five players. I'd pay first and second ~65%/35%, rounded to the nearest $5 in favor of first place. If you don't have anyone rebuy then it's $35/$15. If you get say two rebuys then it's $50/$20.

Hello fellow country-man,

I used to have a similar set and gave it to someone who had no chips.

And here's exactly how I've advised him to use the chips for 5-handed tournaments :
Green = 25
Black = 100
White = 500
Red = 1000
Blue = 5000

You can create stacks of 20.000 chips :
Green (25) x 8
Black (100) x 8
White (500) x 8
Red (1000) x 5
Blue (5000) x 2

With the structure below (and level of 20'), the game shall last 4 hours.

Blinds :
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300
## color-up T25 (green) with T1000 (red) chips ##
200-400
300-600
400-800
600-1200
800-1600
## color-up T100 (black) with T1000 (red) chips ##
1000-2000
1500-3000
## color-up T500 (white) with T5000 (blue) chips ##
2000-4000
** the tournament with 20.000 chips x 5 players should end-here **
3000-6000

You can use re-entry with 4 x 5000 chips. It might however extend the game by 1 or 2 levels.
Just allow one by player and until a given number of levels. Ex. until the end of level 6 (2 hours of play).

With 5 players, I'd pay 2 players (70% - 30%).
So with 10 EUR buy-in, 35 EUR for the win, 15 EUR for the runner-up (assuming no rebuy).

I've advised to my friend to add 25-50 and 25-75 levels to add 2 more levels so about 40 additonal minutes of play but it this is only if a longer tournament is required or a deeper starting stack (400BB instead of 200BB).
