Hello,

Summary : should I make my own design chips at Classic Poker Chips for a lot of money, or is there a better deal on Poker Chip Forum for a tournament set?

This is my first post.
I'm looking for a nice set of tournament poker chips. Clay chips seem to be the way for what I need. But I cannot decide on which big purchase I should do. I don't have a good design for classic poker chips. But I'm noticing it's hard to find a good tournament set for reasonable money. I guess i'm willing to spend around a thousand or so, and am looking for other thoughts.

The main styles I like are anything similar to WSOP tournament chips or nice hot stamp chips, but it doesn't have to be a clone or similar.
Since I'm new , I'm not too confident on how this buying portion works on the website, and it makes it a little discouraging to use vs eBay.
Please let me know if you have any good thoughts.

I've looked a bit at classified and chip room stuff, but still cannot seem to find something.
Thanks for helping in advance.

CPC doesn't necessarily mean a lot of money. But, in my opinion, CPC is all about customs chips with your own theme. If you don't have a burning idea for your own theme, then don't go CPC. Also, don't try to force a theme; you won't be happy with it. You really need to get samples and handle them; they don't feel anything like Paulson casino chips (but lots of people either don't mind that or like them better) and their colors are certainly not as good.

Ask yourself what you really want; is the appeal of a real casino chip (whether or not it was used) speak to you, or did you really want something with your branding on it.

If you're really into Hot Stamp chips, the way to go is to order a blank set from CPC, and then commission one of the awesome vendors here to make you a die and stamp them for you. But now you're talking a lot of money, especially for a first set.

My personal experience in my 2 months of membership is my taste in chips is constantly evolving as I learn more. What I like now vs. when I started 2 months ago is completely different.

I would say get something on the less expensive side of whatever you budget is. Because if you’re like me your taste will change as time goes on. Once you have a better idea what you like you can decide from there whether custom, stock, whatever.

Regarding the classifieds - hang around on there and watch. You’ll eventually catch on with pricing.

Just my 2 cents…

Ceramics no mold, cards mold or hybrid with WSOP style art may be a good place to start.

Agree with @BearMetal, CPCs are best for customs.

Make sure to get samples.

Thanks for the quick responses. I guess I'll have to watch more on this site while thinking.

Love the PCF chips
Fell awesome on the hands and for the wallet!!!!!

thanks for the suggestion. hmm, I'd rather spend up to 1500 on a dream set, or around 500 on a partial of the set rather than buy a set I may not enjoy in the long run. Probably Paulson chips since I really enjoy top hot and cane, but hot stamps like Aurora Star tournaments are so nice also.

Welcome!

I would suggest first reading through the New members post in my signature.

The cost of entry and the upper levels of this hobby are definitely costly, you're budget isn't bad depending on your expectations, I spent over that last week on a single rack of chips, and I got a great deal on the chips. To try to help give you perspective.

I don't use eBay, I would trust and have been trusted by those on this site, we work as a community to make it a safe place. I'm not saying throw three sheets to the wind.

This is an amazing observation and took me more than 2 months and a few grand to realize it.

Most forums or community have elitist assholes, and we may have a few, but the majority of the community are elitist nice-guys. Scrub Donkeys here want other scrub donkeys to bear the burden of over paying on small round clay chips, so we can feel better about ourselves and the money we spend on the hobby. In fact a bunch of us invite other scrub donkeys to games just so we can wallow in our pain and try to drown out the guilt of spending such money on chips while we degenerately offer mounds of money in the form of a splashed pot, just to make it through the week!

Won't you come join us?!

Great thoughts. I want to end with at least this question:

Should I be looking at "Plus/Vendor Marketplace All " section to be seeing the most recent poker chip sets for sale?
I'm just making sure that's the page for all the sales on current sets.

Just click on Classifieds on the top menu bar

An excellent solution would be off-the-shelf CPCs including Key Wests.
Very nice, popular and marketable if you change your mind.
Welcome to the forum.

There are so many fantastic designs on this website. I agree with that if you don't have a specific theme or design in mind, keep browsing and you're bound to run into something you love.
