Future Sun-Fly GB design idea - interest/feedback (GB is open) (1 Viewer)

At this point, @Gear does not have permission to recreate or otherwise use the label artwork. Ordering blanks and having him make labels of your own original design would be fine.

The usual outlier here: IMO, the chips are interesting, but in advertising-speak, "Prestige" means "Cheap".

Seriously? That's certainly not what I learned in business school or in the real world.

pres·tige (noun)
  • widespread respect and admiration felt for someone or something on the basis of a perception of their achievements or quality.
  • denoting something that arouses respect or admiration.
  • referring to a good reputation or high esteem.
  • reputation or influence arising from success, achievement, rank, or other favorable attributes.

What is prestige in business?
Definition: Prestige pricing is a marketing strategy that involves keeping a high price for a product or service to communicate high quality or luxury. It is a technique often employed for high-end products since low prices can be translated into low quality by target consumers. Prestige products are items that are perceived as being very high quality and thus warrant a higher price based on the added value that the purchaser feels they will obtain from the product.

Good thing these are poker chips, and not the result of a marketing strategy.... or we'd have to raise the damn prices. :confused

Prestige???

In my experience, advertising buzzwords like "Official", "Genuine", and "Exclusive" are more likely to be synonymous with "cheap".
I find this interesting - none of those words are synonymous with cheap for me.
If I have an "Official" sports jersey, does that mean it is cheap?
If I have a "Genuine" piece of art from an artist, does that mean it is cheap?
If I am a high roller and casino offers me something "Exclusive", I should be insulted because it is cheap?

Not at all. Sometimes, an adjective that is used to describe a product is accurate.

But let's not lose sight of the reasoning behind advertising - to create a need to spend, and to choose to spend on a particular product to the exclusion of all competitors.

For example:
"Official casino weight"
"Genuine clay chips"
"Exclusive (branded) poker chip set"

Ah, it must be Georgia's annual "Obtuse Day." :cool

If they're in public advertisements, then yes, yes, and yes. Not only that, but they're generally lies.

Could be possible to loose currency sign $? This chips are not targeted at casinos anyway. I know that USA may be biggest marked but you are excluding other countries.

anything is possible, however this is the first it was requested so not sure the demand is there. Also with todays international shipping rates and tariffs I am not sure it makes economic sense.

These look great! Would definitely be interested in a tournament set of these, plus my wife could get behind Prestige Worldwide, she loves that movie :P

@p5woody At the risk of sounding like a good idea fairy, I have a thought. On the 39mm 5c chip the edge of the label looks like it disappears or fades into the color of the chip. I really like that. What do you think about colormatching the fade ring to the color of the ring on the 43mm chips or base color on 39mm chips to get this effect across the range? If not, can they offer this as a custom label option for those buying blanks?

What do you think?

EDIT: Can you let us know what design tool you're using to create the mockups? I'd like to play around with it if It's something readily accessible. If this is a dumb question everyone knows the answer to please forgive my noobness.

Here is what I found when trying to do color matching with Sun-Fly hybrid chips. The finished chip is made of two different materials - the face of the chip (ceramic?) and the label (vinyl?). The same color printed on ceramic material appears different then it does on their label material. Slight variations might be okay since it is a gradient, but since they are fading into each other they have to be almost perfect. I'm not sure how difficult that would be. I think it would take a lot of tries before getting them perfect, also we would have to do it for 14 different colors. I think the shield matching will be easier because they don't touch, so slight variations will not be as noticeable. I am assuming the logo will take a couple of tries to get them right on all the chips.

With that said, I'm sure for the right price Sun-Fly would be willing to do anything. :)

Just saw your edit - I use adobe illustrator to create all my artwork. Unless you are familiar with illustrator I don't think the files would help you much. It isn't like the design tool, everything posted here was built from scratch.

I *think* what this guy is saying is that words like prestigious, premium, genuine, etc. are words that mean almost nothing.

When you pick up a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon, If you look at the can it says "premium lager" but the word is as useless as a golf cart in a swimming pool. Most times a true brand doesn't have to use buzzwords like that to sell.

There's nothing wrong with Sunfly chips, but the word "prestige" makes it sound like something cheap and useless.

For a more practical example, pick up a set of dice chips. They'll say "Official Casino Weight" even though you know casinos don't weigh their poker chips. Now buy a set from @ABC Gifts and Awards, they won't say Casino Weight, they just say 10 grams, because they're higher quality chips.

FYI -- before anyone says anything, I do like these chips but I am way happier with the set I'm working on. :) GLWGB.
