Has anyone created a New Aria "Tribute"? (1 Viewer)

From what I understand the original tributes were created by @Johnny5
and they are now no longer allowed by Tina...

Has anyone updated the center artwork and kept the same color scheme? Or is that also going to be downvoted...?


I've been watching High Stakes Poker a lot lately and the recent seasons are at Aria...and boy are those chips pretty.

We're so busy making copies of copies around here anymore, I start to wonder if anyone has fresh ideas? *


[BEGIN RANT] * There are still plenty of amazing and original sets being made, so this is partly a tongue-in-cheek jab. I recall there was a "creativity collective" or similar back on CT that was there to encourage and support original designs and design ideas. I don't recall it gaining a lot of traction (surprise, surprise) before the start of the great void or my earlier departure from here, but with the number of threads around here lately asking "where can I get Aria replicas" or "how do I make a copy of X" threads and posts, I wonder if something similar might be worthwhile.

There is a "grail set" thread around here. For myself, I could easily quit chipping, as in "log out and delete bookmarks" level quit, with a set of full-size inlay MGM Grand chips... cash, tournament through the $5000 (and beyond?). That would be my personal grail. Despite the ease of it, just can't make copies, Tina or otherwise. It's not the same. It's not a cost issue, but I just couldn't do it. It's no longer the Grail, but a cheap copy.

I'm happy if it makes you happy, but making a replica like this is the equivalent of the kit-car to the Ferrari 250 Spyder in Ferris Bueller. (which ironically, was a kit car in most of the shots...but I digress).

It just feels like many folks don't want to make the effort to make chips their own, and that's a shame. In this time where we have Tina to make quite amazing chips for a surprisingly remarkable price (they have become the starter chip for incoming chippers... and perfectly respectable forever chips for "one-and-dones"), CPC still turning out the last of the cutom clay chips and remarkably original ceramic chips that don't try to be clay, I stopped counting the number of threads that want copies of the Aria chips many threads ago.


Do someting original or at least make an honest tribiute rather than an cheap-ass-copy.

I think it’s a mistake to assume the person that wants a replica of a classic, real casino chip is somehow being unoriginal, uncreative, or too lazy to make a custom set of their own.

Not everyone’s idea of a beautiful chip is a new, unfamiliar design. Some people draw comfort seeing visuals that they’ve seen many times before. Someone that displays a print of a famous painting doesn’t consider it a “cheap ass copy”. It can be appreciated just as much as someone else who prefers buying or creating an original piece of art.

There are many that think customs are the ultimate end of the poker chip journey, but consider that this may not be the same desire for everyone.

I don't disagree that a tribute to a classic is a bad thing. In fact, I'm all for it, just make it a tribute!

Aria's are too new to be a "classic" or "nostalgic". If we weren't seeing them in nearly every PokerGo stream, they probably wouldn't have the traction they do. Clearly the design is clean, sharp and quite attractive, otherwise we'd see dozens of copies of the Bicycle chips from the LATB stream, which arguably have similar amount of screen time but are less attractive to many here. I'd argue the Aria $1 are boring as mud (and are a copy of the Bellagio $1s as well as the $100s, in colors at least, because the folks in charge of chips there clearly can't come up with new ideas either).

So many people want 1:1 or nearly 1:1 copies. If you like the design that much, make a tribute to it and don't be a copycat. It's not that difficult a hurdle to jump over or even crawl under (or have we just become that damn lazy?).

You forget that there's a lot of investment (Western and otherwise) in the casinos in Macau, part of China. They would not want to see convincing replicas of live casino chips anywhere made by anyone.

Sigh. I know, no originality. But...those Aria colors are damn pretty.
I don't have the time or creativity to create new chips. I want an easy out.
I'm not interested in trying to rip off a casino for $100...that's ridiculous. Just a similar color set w/o the logo on them.
That's all...Ah well...
Hopefully one of the other types of chips I like get past the idea stage...

Same color scheme allowed would be nice, but the inlay would have to be figured out. Or have the artists put the ixnay on Tributes of live casinos at this point?

My customs may be my end game/chipping retirement sets, but the Bellagio 98 replica set was really tempting....

I used to play in Vegas during the poker boom before Aria. I only played at Bellagio a couple of times as I thought the games were softer elsewhere (@AlbinoDragon MGM was my go to). Still, Bellagio had the big game and will always be THE place for me.
