Hello! Getting back into poker (1 Viewer)

I used to be into poker a long time ago.
Then I got married, had kids, and couldn't really afford that kind of life.

Now that I'm a dad, I started playing various card games with my children now that they're getting older. After getting tired of "Go Fish" and "Crazy 8s" etc. my wife suggested poker.
So I taught them Texas Hold'em. They found their new favorite card game and I could not be more pleased.

Now I'm looking for some chips to have at home instead of using various things as chips (like paper clips and such).

Also, I've been lurking at some of the photos on here and they blow me away. How do they get such good photos? Is there a trick (studio lights? professional dslr?)
I use my phone camera and it always comes out blurry.

I cannot speak for others.... but it is important to account for white balance. In my photos (of whatever), I ensure there is something white in the field of view. This gives the camera actual white to use and it won't skew the other colors. I often crop out the paper (or whatever I used for white).

Also, if you balance yourself (or your arms) against the table, you can get a clearer photo. Obviously, a camera stand is ideal.

Thanks for the tips! I never thought about keeping a white piece of paper in the shot for white balance.

There lots of little tricks. Do a "search" of photography and you will find some threads on this topic. Here is one: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/chip-photography-thread.68000/

Camera phones have gotten better and you should be able to get decent shots with that alone, but some other equipment can make it easier.

Lots of ways to get great shots and also even more ways to get junk pics. None of these are absolutely necessary, but a tripod is super helpful. A Light box and a macro lense are helpful too. Most importantly is some practice.

I love Paulson chips because it's what I'm most used to playing with in casino poker rooms. What better way to recreate that experience than with actual casino chips!

As I mentioned, back in the day I used to play and I bought a small set of '98 Paulson Fan of Cards chips. I like that they started at 5¢ and went up from there. The only thing I didn't care for was the lack of edge spots.
I lost this set and hope I'll be able to find it again (it might be in storage somewhere).

For me Paulson's just have the right feel, sound and weight.

Plus, I don't think I've ever seen Paulson chips below one dollar each. And since it looks like @TheChipRoom is running out of Jack chips, I felt like I had to act fast.

I read the entire thread and it looks like I lost out on the higher value denominations.
Oh well. I'm sure I'll be able to find some later on the forum.

I also learned a lot from that thread. Like how to clean and oil the chips?! I never knew you could oil them. That looks like a project I could do with my kids when the set is delivered.

I couldn't agree more. They are great and since they've already been through a casino, I'm not afraid to let my kids play with them (to play poker of course).

It all starts so innocently, right?
Just a set to play with the kids. Maybe host a friendly poker game, you know, invite the neighbors over.

Then @TheChipRoom happens. What a great deal on a set of 900 Paulson from a casino.

It comes in. It's fantastic! It has $1, $5, $25, $100, and $500 chips. I sat down with my kids and we played. They had a blast! They enjoyed the real chips. They liked stacking them up high, even if it was a barber poll. They also had some incredible beginners luck. Four-of-a-kind, are you serious? Yes they did that to me. But the chips are here. They are in great condition for being through a casino and will last years and years.

But then I see other posts here on the forum.... I'm missing the $1000, $5000 and $25000 chips. And it hits you... that twisted part of your mind that makes you do stupid, crazy, money spending things. It says "you're going to have to get those to actually have a full set."
Full set.... full set. It echos in my mind. For some reason I'm not evening counting the snappers.
My rational part of my mind finally wakes up and argues "but those are the 43 mm chips, they're bigger and more rare and cost much more per chip." And then my rational part goes in for the coup de grâce: "You don't need them to play with your kids or you neighbors."

My inner self is struggling. I keep trying to tell my self that "I don't need it" like some kind of SpongeBob meme. But then I snap, my rational mind falters and all I can hear is "I NEED IT!" thus completing the meme. And I put up a "wanted" post.

Do I feel ashamed? Surprisingly, no. Forum members here have already responded to my wanted post, and I'm in pm with them now.
The twisted part of my mind "that needs it" is satisfied. And I won't "need" anything else...

I remember the Paulson FCC are AKQJ10 instead of AJQK10.

I tried taking some close ups of my Jack Cincinnati chips.
I set my cell phone camera to "pro" mode and manually adjusted the white balance.
I did notice that the white surface that I have the chips against is very glossy so you can actually see some of the chip's color reflected in each close up. Same with my BCC FoC chips close-ups in my other post.
