....Cartamundi

2 sets of Bridge-size Regular Cartamundi acetate casino cards (USA made) showed up two days ago - both decks are warped. Really don't like the ultra-smooth-slick card finish. Because they're warped, the deck slides and spins like crazy... I know. Not a fair comparison.

2 sets of Bridge-size Jumbo Fournier 2826 arrived at noon today. They feel like thinner versions of the Modiano Purple Texas Poker 2 set.

Man. I hate to say this, but the Poker size Jumbo Modiano Texas Poker 2 set is my current benchmark for "what I like". FFFFF! Why can't these Modiano assholes be, you know....good people? I feel guilty liking their cards.

They 've been quite mean in making Ferraris too :)

So you know what you like, there is no harm in that.
If you like Modiano Texas you likely going to upgrade to Platinium.

I doubt that some colors of the Texas range are actually acetate.
They are all the same price, so i really doubt!

OK! MAJOR UPDATE!!!! - didn't think my order would arrive so soon.

My first pack purple pack of Modiano Texas Poker cards was purchased from a seller in Minnesota - they were still in the plastic wrap inside the box. Not sure if there is a difference in packaging for the US vs. Europe, but the deck I purchased from a Lithuanian seller has "Italian" writing/language on the package. The US does not. So by difference, I mean - did they list all the features of the cards in the US market? No. Did they list features on the Italian box? Not entirely sure.

(These four packs will be our official family holiday Euchre Tourney set up).

PAP, PVC and PP are all listed on the side of the Green, Purple and Red boxes - but not on the Blue or Grey. Nothing is circled on the Green, Purple nor Red boxes indicating what is used.

Comparison with the grey pack, listed as PVC on the Modiano website.

Feel, flex and handling?

They all have the identical velvety feel. ...save for one caveat. The grey pack of cards feels very slightly more.....'waxy' than the others. I've compared them to three other packs (three colors: Two purple packs - the Minnesota purchase and Italian purple packs, and the Green pack), and I'm not sure if it's my imagination or it's reality. But I've done this three different times throughout the day, trying to see if it's reality. ...and I have no idea. One time they feel a bit waxy, another time not so much - and this is after washing my hands.

Weave shuffling feels the same. Bridging the cards feels the same. They sound the same when riffling the entire deck. Dealing/pitching feels the same. Card thickness and flex feels the same.

Conclusion. It's inconclusive.  The side of the box lists three different substrates - none of which is circled nor highlighted.

I'm going to venture to say the entire family is either all acetate or all PVC. I wouldn't say these cards are cheap - they're $25-$27 USD shipped from Lithuania. But they're not $45 USD, nor are they $60 USD (KEM).

....Does it matter which substrate (PVC or Acetate) they're using? For me? No. These cards feel amazing.

The Green and Purple (beautiful colors) makes for a great two deck poker set up. Should look great with my Akumal chips...

>> all three are used. PAP = cardboard for the box (astuccio), PVC for the cards (carte) and PP for the cellophane wrap (cellophane) of the sealed decks.

Reminds me of my late father, who, in his youth as a tourist in Italy, armed only with his Latin from school, followed once a series of "Senso Unico" signs, in search indeed of a unique sensation.
It didn't take long for him to realize that it just meant "One Way" street.:):)

I suppose google is my friend. :sneaky:

Mr. Wookie,

If you haven't already, I strongly recommend you source a set of Platinums ( I think they changed the packaging lately?). That will give you a lot of context but may just spoil your love of the Texas line...

Thanks. I'm sure they're great, but Meh. I have zero interest in spending $50 for a two deck set-up.

Just a reminder, the @desjgn "Classic Flourish" available through the link here on PCF are Modiano stock. These are poker/regular in red/blue.

I'm not sure why I never noticed this post before but thank you for posting it! I didn't realize that the poker sized regular index Desjgn Classic Flourish sets were still on the old Modiano stock. I just snapped up a setup from eBay. I'm typically a bridge sized jumbo index guy when it comes to cards for use in poker, so I'm not sure that I'll ever actually even use these in a game. But I'm just extremely curious to try this supposedly legendary card stock that everyone on here has raved about in thread after thread. I especially look forward to comparing the feel of these to my Modiano Platinums, Da Vincis, and bridge sized Desjgns on Dal Negro stock (which are probably my overall favorite cards right now).

No problem.

Just FYI, the single black decks available on eBay are also Modiano stock. Both are regular index, poker in classic diamond and bridge in classic matrix/interweave.

To cut a long story short, Modiano and Dal Negro on the Continent, including the colony of the British Isles :p
Or, Design, in the New World

Edit: Fournier and Piatnik are great too, if you can find then at non-ripping prices, basically on European e-shops
