Another vote for quarter cask.

my wife had me buy that St Germaine for some cocktails. That stuff is gross. Hahha. But thumbs up for bruichladdich
I like St Germaine in an Irish Maid (whiskey, St G, muddled cucumber, lime juice and simple).

Maybe an ardbeg uigeadail, it you want to give another islay a try. I'm also a big fan of talisker 10 mentioned earlier. I absolutely love the Caol Ila 18 but I find that super hard to find these days.

The Quarter Cask can be had for $50/bottle

Michigan is a tad more expensive

I'm checking out my local grocer. They have Laphroaig quarter cask for 75 bucks which exactly fits my budget .

They also have

Oban Little Bay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 750ML for 70 bucks

Oban 14 for 90

I might be picking up one of these today

Oh man... MI prices SUCK!! The Quarter Cask is $55 in most places and the Oban 14 just a tad more. Ugh!

The Quarter Cask is a totally different animal than the Obans. The former is a peat monster the other two, subtle with a little bit of peat. Picking depends on taste and what one is looking for. If I was choosing (not that it matters), I'd go for the Quarter Cask, and I'm no Oban hater btw.

+1 on the Quarter Cask.

Oban prices in the US are nuts. I regularly get it when visiting the in-laws in London for GBP 30. And I LOVE Oban.

Michigan prices definitely suck. This isn't on my dime. It's s thank you for an internal reship

Hopefully Bill does not mind this minor thread derail, I think he will enjoy it.

The question is was Scotch and or Peated Scotch love at first nip or an acquired taste for you? I have tried to like Scotch and it just ain't happening for me so far. @pltrgyst I have hit puberty and am probably approaching man-o-pause lol so I've been around the block. Paulo did present me with a bottle of Sherry Cask Scotch which I honestly did enjoy, but no more than a $35 dollar bottle of Bourbon. I'm afraid the only reason I liked it was because much of the true "Scotchiness" was covered up. I tried Laphroig twice and OMG it was something I did not enjoy at all. I am also not a fan of smokiness in my booze.

FWIW I am a bourbon fan and am pretty happy with lower shelf 80 proof stuff.

try this:

Kilchoman 100% Islay

It’s a nice, clean, peaty, & smoky dram. Smoother than a Laphroaig. Made on Islay with 100% Islay barley.

Following, always looking for suggestions in the $50 range. Cheers!
