Okay, not really quite that bad, but sort of. So the custom cloth on the table I referenced here is pictured below. It features a very unique, original red chip design.

As noted, the table was ordered by some guys who run a local game here. I've just about talked them into going with GOCC, but the chips, though ceramic, will mimic clay designs. Not a huge problem, but it is a limitation and doesn't capitalize on the strengths of ceramic chips imo. A further limitation is that the red chip has to look like the one on the custom felt seen above. So basically a red dice chip.

What are the best base/spot colors to use to make the most of this red/white dice chip-style workhorse? They'll need $1, $5, $25, $100, and $500 chips and they must use traditional colors (white $1, not blue) and must all resemble a 614 spot pattern. Again, very limited, but within these limitations, what's the best they can do?

My current best:

Maybe the limitations are just too great to overcome, but then again maybe someone will pull something out of his or her ass and it will look great. All suggestions welcome.

1 & 5 are okay but the rest are lacking. I think the 25 would look better with grey spots, can live with the 100 and the 500 should have pink. I'll play around tonight more.

I like the 1 & 5 as is. On this mocked-up 100, an arguement could easily be made for the brighter DG Tiger. The DG peach is a little brighter IRL than it shows up on my monitor, and will look further dark because it's on an otherwise all black chip.

Lol,

Ok we will buy better chips...but you have to make them look like crappy chips as much as possible.

I know :(

My hope is that once we get some designs I'll have the designer mock up several "edgespot" designs and they'll cave.

I actually like the felt, minus the dice chip.

...and the prominent suits.

...and the bracketing around the prominent suits.

It's like someone said, hey let's take every cheap poker cliche and package them together!

I just want to know what the club is called. So mysterious.

Don't mean to be unnecessarily mysterious. Just don't want to advertise the location of a game that is - you might say - "unsanctioned".

And use a shitty over-used typeface while we're at it! Yay! (Algerian is #2 behind Comic Sans on the list of Fonts That Should Never Be Used.)

Fortunately there seems to be more latitude as to the actual design on the face of the chip.

Well, if you're gonna make it a cluster-fuck, might as well take that 1-to-5 transition and spread it across the entire lineup:

Personally, I think it's probably doable. Using cards/dice on the chip surface is key for full effect, however.....

Bump because I'm taking this project into my own hands (in a way). What do we think about these?

Still a GOCC set with something resembling edgespots (there will be designs on the face, but they won't reach all the way to the edge to meet the rolling edge markings).

Make the $25 spots dark green and Tiger then ship it!

The 614's throw me a bit. Here's a couple alternatives that incorporate the same colors but stick with the thinner overall stripes present in the set.

I have a small amount of concern re: the green stripe on the $25...not sure if it will pop enough on a ceramic. I don't have GOCC color samples to play with, though, so it's difficult for me to say.

Yeah I agree with you guys the green is def the weakest. Always tough for me to put a green chip together.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Since you're using a Black base for the hundo, you could use Maroon instead of black for the red birds...

I'm not a fan of ceramics that mimic clay edge spots, but I understand why you are doing it in this case. When ceramics do mimic edgespots, I strongly prefer edge aligned spots.

Get the prototypes made with aligned edge spots. You might better achieve your goals.

Yeah already planned for alignment and prototypes. Emailed with GOCC earlier today. Aligned prototypes are $30 for 10 chips limited to one design for all 10 chips.

Curious

i have heard of all these words but Ive never seen them together?

Well the fact that the concept didn't last a full page is probably indicative of how viable the idea was in the first place.

Appreciate all the suggestions, guys. I think I'm with @Psypher1000 on needing to stick with 1/8" and 1/6" spots rather than going with 1/4" spots on the $5. And with courage on adding tiger to the $25.

So with those changes:
