Not a brag post at all but rather a reminder that sometimes listening to that little voice is the right move.

1/2 10 - handed. Hero has never played with this villain before.

Hero is on the button w $500. Limped around and finds J♦J♥ Raises to $20. One caller. Pot is now $56
Flop: A♥J♥9.♣
Hero bets $25. Villain raises to $100. Hero calls. Pot now $256.
Turn is 2♦
Hero checks.
Villain announces all-in and has hero covered. Pot is now $656; will be $1056 if hero calls.

A few hands prior to this, villain also announced All-in with exact same giddy voice inflection.

Call or fold? If folding, hero is putting villain on exactly AA.

Absent a very specific and reliable read or an exposed hand, I'm calling this all day. Not enough information to put Villain on AA. With an unknown villain, it's an even faster call. Especially because, for him to have AA, it means he had to slow-play it preflop but raise it hard on the flop, which is a pretty bizarre way to play AA with a flopped set. I'd be more worried about a combo draw like :qh::th: than AA here against most players.

But context is leading me to believe Villain has AA here, so I fold.

Given how the hand played out it's monsters under the bed to put villain solely on AA. More likely combo-wise he holds two pair after pf call then raising flop. Can't put much stock in villain sounding giddy. He prolly thinks he has the best hand. Hero has also under-repped his hand betting half pot flop and checking turn.

As the doctor would say. Don't show here. You're giving away valuable info, and if I'm at that table I'm putting the pressure on you in a lot of spots seeing you fold the 2nd nuts.

Prob sage advice but it was a very specific read/tell and he left shortly after the hand. Imo he played his hand about as bad as possible.

The way he played the hand, he could have just as easily had 99 as AA. He also could have had AJ, and maybe even hands like KQhh are in his range here. I think folding here is pretty bad to be honest. You're right in this one specific instance, but if you keep folding second set its -ev in the long run.

Agree but it was an obvious / easy read frankly and doubtful I'll ever pick up similar read again. But I get your point.

I'm looking to get all in almost every time in this board. If I lose set over set then so be it.
"The encounter was a victory, but we show it as an example of what not to do. Now then, this is a perfect example of a textbook manoeuvre..."

In a deeper game against an opponent where you had better knowledge you could fold safely here. In a lot of games I play in showing that lay down would put me in tough spots the rest of the night.

Nice lay down. You were right this time but this is bad play long term. I think this is usually a heart / combo shove.

Well done mate. Did villain then say "Lays down a monster. Should have paid me off on that. The f^ck did you lay that down!?"

hahaha, that was brilliant mate, literally laughed out loud imagining the voice as well.

This. This. THIS.

Showing the laydown will only make you seem weak in the long run in his eyes. If someone laid down a set under my top set, I would be salivating at the prospect of a long and abusive relationship with this player.

I would table the JJ, but only if I had plans on repatriating to a country that didn't have an extradition treaty or formal diplomatic relations with the United States. Like, if i was abandoning my life to follow my bucket list dream of renouncing my citizenship and being a Somalian pirate, then yes, I'm tabling JJ here, but only if I'm packing my oar and my AK-47 right after the hand and getting on that long boat to Africa.

Call instantly, and if he has AA, take that confidence of your read with you to the cage to get more chips.
