I suppose I could Google this but I would rather get the origin of the poker chip from the people that are super obsessed with them like me!
How did the article that represents money start as a little colorful clay circle?
Now I could venture a guess that because money has been minted as circles of metal (gold, silver, etc) it isn't that far of a leap that someone in the gaming business said, "Let's mimic money and make little tokens so people will be more apt to wager more since it's kind of like they aren't playing with real money."
But it could have been anything. Poker chips could have been any object that represents some amount of real value. Could have been a square or a cube or a cylinder instead of a clay disc. And why clay? Why not brick or something soft like a tensile fabric? I don't know.
