I play a decent amount of live 2/5 and am decently profitable. But I also love a good home game with some friends and have found my win rate is actually way lower since I tend to have fun blasting off a bit more. These games tend to be lower stakes so punting a bit isn’t a big deal (I rarely lose at these games but I’m definitely not min/maxing profit, lol.)

How does your play differ in friendly games vs a more “serious” environment? You still trying to make every last dollar? Part of donking off more for me is also just making sure I get invited back.

I’m by no means a pro but you guys know how it is playing against dudes who with no experience. Gotta keep it fun for everyone.

For me it’s a way different environment as you eluded too. I only have played a handful times at the casino in live cash games. For me personally, I am def more uptight at these games especially because more money is on the line compared to home games. Secondly it’s the environment. Since I don’t play frequently at casinos I don’t feel myself and almost play more shy and timid. At home games I feel because of the atmosphere I can play more freely and enjoy it much more. I’ve done fairly well at home games probably at break even or up a little . I don’t track it .

Wishing you the best. My advice stick to home games! I’m bias

This is most of my experience at home games.

I'd separate it into two situations: the dollars I lose back while hosting and teaching beginners, just generally being splashy, and then there's giving a few pots back in a local home game to keep being invited. There's a few profitable home games in my area that I make sure I make a big show out of losing a decent sized pot at some point during the night. I know there's a few players that don't raise the river without the nuts; I bet a few bucks as a blocker, they minraise it? I'm calling that bet and shaking my head when I lose, knowing that I'll keep getting an invite back. Easy decision to lose 10-20 BB per game if it means I can keep showing up and walking out +100 BB at the end.

That's something I balance: yes I'll play splashy and pay some stupid bets off but I do so in smart positions, I'm not bluffing way more or folding clear winners, I'm just getting to showdown cheaper. Win big pots, lose small ones but act like you're 50/50 lol.
