In my home games we start very deep
25-50 with 20k startstack. The curve is first flat then steepens towards the end. Idea behind this is that players can stay in tournament for while and when it comes to an end eleminated players don't have to wait too long for the cash game to start. It also increases the chances for less skilled players to score.
In the league I play they use a matrix to determine the points awarded. One axis number of players / other axis place ended. Only final table gets points. They use a matrix for low buy in tourneys and another one for higher buy in tourneys.
Not sure if you can access the link...
