All kidding aside, I was away from the game for over 12-13 years. Raising kids, caring for aging parents, running a business and too many other hobbies like golf and hunting. Just got back into the live game and just this past weekend hosted my first game in well over 12 years. Golf buddies. All poker players but casual weekend guys. I retained my 500-chip set of Paulson classics from years ago and I also had a 500-chip set of Paulson NPS that I used for small tournaments. Years ago if I ever hosted a small cash game with relatives, I'd use the 25s from the NPS as quarter chips and paired them up with the $1 and $5 from my classics. Worked well and gave me some versatility.
So recently my golf buddies encouraged me to host a game. If you know me, you know that I don't like doing anything half ass. If I host anything, it has to be done as well as I can possibly do it. We were planning to play a small tournament followed by a cash game and I just didn't think either of my sets would work well with 9-10 players at a table. So I went hunting. I quickly snatched up 800+ additional NPS chips to increase my tournament setup to over 1,300 chips. I then wanted to find another 500 classics to bring my cash set up to 1,000 as well but I just couldn't locate the right setup. I picked up 1,000 chip set of Paulson Jacks Cincys off of
eBay instead for about $1,100. I didn't think that was too bad a price considering what I was seeing on this site for classics. I still spent a few bucks on chips but it's only money. My friends aren't very good at poker so I'll make that back soon enough. Already up $500 from this past weekend so not that much further to go.
So presently I stand at about 2,800 Paulson chips, in 3 different set varieties. My game plan going forward is to build out my original Paulson classics for cash and keep the NPS for tournaments. Given how expensive and rare they have become, I might consider a custom set instead? Might be fun designing my own chips and color combinations??? Once I settle on my preferred cash set, I'll likely unload the Jack Cincys. If I go the custom route, I'll likely unload the classics as well.
Nevertheless, it was really nice handling clay chips at a home poker game again. I'm sure you folks will understand just how therapeutic it is to shuffle quality poker chips while you are calculating odds or replaying a hand in your head. It was like riding a bike. Just a few attempts and the shuffling was smooth again all night long.
So that's my story. I'll enjoy following along with folks that have same/similar disorder.
