This thread has been an interesting read, to say the least.
If nothing else, hopefully it serves as a warning to buyers that basic protections need to be used when conducting chipping transactions (PP G&S, credit cards, etc.).

I always told everybody on several occasions that they may reach out to me regarding how to fully utilize protections provided to them by the credit card providers. I’ll provide as much insight and tips as I can.
Matter of fact, those protection plans work much better than PayPal G&S and are far more efficient. Several cards have it for stolen, lost, and also damaged goods. If anybody wants more details, shoot over a PM.

If there is someone on this forum that knows this guys address and people are out tens of thousands of dollars, why can’t that individual just share his address and name so people can seek legal restitution?
The way people are going about this - donations, auctions, asking people to see boxes and proof that some other faceless Internet person will watch the scammer go to the post office - this is fucking hysterically funny.

Hard to discern fact from fiction when it comes to addiction but if he lost his job, wife, family, and reputation, then he's not getting off scott free. Not the same restitution those affected members desire but restitution Quintan Tarantino style nonetheless.
I would argue that he didn't put much value on any of those things anyway. But then I don't believe his sob story for a second.

Yeah I was surprised to get those BCC’s considering you’re one of those foreigners!! (Kidding for the record) This is an individual problem not a “euro” problem. Maybe even a “second chance” problem with an individual. I would buy sell or trade with many here out of country, including @Eriks and @Perthmike and have. Conus only as a reaction is redic! Community standing and reputation is what should be considered.
On the other side of the chip, I will definitely be more diligent in how I deal with folks and possibly just go without if a seller cannot meet somewhere on the side of trust and protection.
It is what it is. It’s unfortunate it’s come to this on this level and many of us will “suffer” for lack of a better term.
“going after your money” in a different country is a fruitless battle. So I get some of the temped response in hope of some resolution and I do commend @Bloody Marvelous for his attempts to help out as he really doesn’t have to lift a finger to help anyone and neither does @horseshoez, but as in the real world, there’s those that are helpers and let’s not ridicule those that want to help, maybe they get something done.
again, let’s all learn something here. The majority of us are good trusting people but there’s always exceptions.

I agree whole heartedly in theory, but legal channels are limited and restitution all but hopeless and costly.
The fundraising etc. is a difficult thing for me but again a community sticking together. No one has said don’t seek legal remedy and leave Poppin go Scott free. Quite the opposite. It’s just bad form to fully consider every person here a faceless internet person.

I agree with the first part, and sadly, I do think that there is more truth to the second part than most want to admit. That said, yes, sending money to people you've never met before with the trust that you'll get what you paid for sounds crazy to the layperson, but at the end of the day, we're all here because we're passionate about the hobby.
From when I signed up here two years ago, I bought in to the sense of community here. I see trip reports and meetup threads with all the great times had among many members here. That said, there also is an ugly side to this community. The NAGB'S that I wasn't here for. The scammers and thieves. Yes, there is an implicit risk in sending cash via no purchase protection, and that's a gamble that someone will take every time there's a transaction here, but if they aren't made whole in terms of goods paid for or a refund when indicated, it doesn't make it right.
I'm not calling you out specifically, and hell, I don't know if you would feel this way too, but how would you feel if you paid a whole paycheck for a chip set and then come to find out you're out the money without any goods received or without any guarantee of a refund?
While I would be upset if this happened to me, and even angry at myself for looking foolish for trusting the wrong person, while I would not expect anyone to help me, I know that I would feel flattered and grateful for any kind of effort to fundraise to make myself and others out money whole, even if it ends up not getting close to getting 100% of the way there.

When you think about it, the point you are making is actions do speak, asshat clause says that if your an asshat then your actions allow me to ignore you and there you go.
0 people told me that if I didn't donate or over bid on any of the auctions, I would be blocked from future auctions.
I have the same opportunity to goto functions and network, perhaps be favored for other auctions.

I'm not going to touch the first three points with a ten foot pole, but I am a bit confused about your point regarding the HOF voting. There's a nomination thread every year and as far as I can tell, everyone can vote sets into the HOF in a public voting process. What am I missing?

Can you clarify that? Who is sending PMs to new users? The Ignore feature is a default forum feature available to everyone BTW.
And what's that? Do you mean not allowing rando John Smiths from registering and going to the voting thread to cast a vote for himself or his friend? If so, yes, we block brand new members from casting votes on HOF polls because I've caught at least 4 members creating dup accounts and casting votes on their sets in the past.
