Anyone notice squashed primary $25s? I was going through my 400 of them to sort out the best two racks, and while at it found about 20 chips that had been washed in too hot water or something. Here's a few pictures, and a picture of a decent looking one for comparison. One or two of the hats and canes are pretty much gone on a few of these and less so on others.

I haven't noticed any squashed 25s but do have a fair amount with faded purple spot. Within the cane the colour isn't faded which actually adds a neat effect. It really doesnt bother me at all.

Yeah I have a bunch of that as well. Anyone have trouble cleaning these? I guess i would be a bit more careful than usual, if the purple is sensitive to something, and the green clay might be more soft than other colors if bathing in hot water. Not sure what the casino used to clean these, but seems they went at it a bit too hard!

Ms. Brie just started working on our $25s and she thinks it is a coating like the pink coating on the Primary $500s, I had 10/20 with that nasty pink crap... several think it is color transfer but it is not, it scrapes off, but if you want to get it by just scrubbing it is going to take a long time!
Screenshot_20220623-121756_Gallery.jpg

I didn't save any of my pictures but you can see the pink on the top side of the hat in the edge spot there.

Anyone find any $25s that were used as door stoppers
Screenshot_20220623-121737_Gallery.jpg

Again thank God for the sample set... unfortunately I was planning to keep them as a set of spares but now after finishing a taped together $100 that was broken, a $5 with a huge flea bit over 1/2" across... more like a piranha bite! And that $25 with the edge totally worm down. Not much left for extras! Lol

I still think it's colour transfer. There's nothing to say you wouldn't be able to scrape off colour transfer based on seeing the same thing on Roadhouse $500s. Why would they cancel these chips with cancellation paint? At the very least it is inconclusive.

Not sure whether it’s heat, cleaning chemicals, sun, or what but it seems like purple is one of (if not the) most prone colors to discoloration like the above.

Does not look or feel like color transfer at all to me. Feels more like chemicals or heat has made the color change somewhat. Makes sense it can be scraped off with magic erasers if it's just the outermost layer of clay that is discolored.

And @Ben8257, I got 10 extra of each denom I got. Maybe overkill, but I've received broken chips before, and it's nice to have a few backups anyways. I can send you one or two each of the pri 1, 5, 25, 100 if you want. Send me a pm if you need it.

Why is it perfectly on the edge spots and not the Blurple. I cleaned 120 primary $100s last night that had color transfer "neon pink" in most of the white edge spots. Color transfer is clay, it scrapes off just like if you cut into a face of a chip. The pink crap on the $500s comes off in chunks almost like a hardened enamel, it's not the same composition at all. It is much harder almost like you need a small jack hammer to get it to break loose... and then when it does it crumbles off in chunks as you scrape, like a heavy duty coating.

Also you can Scrub color transfer off, it can take a while but it will come off. The pink crap on the $500s you can Scrub all day and it will still be there. I never scrape a chip with a knife unless it is 100% necessary .

Again as far as cancelation paint which does exist

This stuff is made not to come back off!

Back to why? I have no clue... but another example would be the Ace's Casino and Sports Bar chips (my first paulsons) about 15 - 20% of the used $1 chips have gray paint over the 1/8" blue edge spots shown here
Screenshot_20220623-124004_Gallery.jpg

Top left $1 Blue Edge spots, right just below center $1 gray edge spots but you can still see the Blue underneath and starting to come back through. You can scrape it off and get them back to Blue again... but the question here is why? I own 660 Aces $1 chips and have just over a rack combined from those 6 racks of the grays, my set was built over a year and racks from many different people and randomly they all had the same thing. It's not color transfer, it's paint and a damn hard paint at that. Someone took the time to perfectly hand paint over the Blue spots and not get it on the adjacent red spots though . Also can be seen in the bottom left rack (with the 4 barrels of $1s) in this pic

Maybe trying to make a secondary, marking chips for a specific game in a high Rollers or specialty room and didn't want to order different chips? Seriously no idea. Maybr it is the banks way of saying "these chips are no longer usable and the.casino doesn't have to carry the funds at the end to cover them when they are close to shutting down? Seriously no clue

But color transfer is flat on the chips, smears into the clay... this pink stuff on the IG $500 chips is only on the edge spots, scrape the Blurple and you get blurple, not pink chunks on your knife.

Or Maybe I flat out have no idea what I am talking about. Not worth a argument... took me almost 2 days to clean my 20 so no worries to me "inconclusive" is fine too!
20220613_203353.jpg

But seriously good luck to those that bought a bunch of them. Hope your US cleaners get it off for ya! I hear those things work wonders! Lol

@Marius L seriously bro I appreciate it, but we have what we need. If one goes missing or if we find any more damaged chips then I may hit you up buddy. Believe me I wish I could have ordered extras. I normally get 5 extra of everything but woth the 2k restriction and doing both cash and tourney, I didn't even get the Ideal breakdowns I would like. Fingers crossed no more damage, but it happens. No big deal!

US does not get that off the 500pri. I actually don't mind it on those chips. Have you had any luck getting all the dust or whatever off of the primary $25s? US did not do the trick on that either nor did my rudimentary attempts with the magic eraser (although it made a little difference)

I have not personally tried on the $25s yet, again Brie started washing those yesterday and did note about 50% had "issues" with the purples. I was hard core trying to get the hundos finished up and succeeded. Happy to experiment this evening and see if I can tell what is plauging the purple spots on the $25s, looks like fading in the pictures others have shared here... possibly bad settings on the commercial grade US cleaners the casinos use. Bad chemical concoction they used as a cleaning agent? If it's ON the chips and not IN the chip... I will see what I can do and report back.

Just glancing at my own splash pot pictures, this particular one looks like part of the purple was hit with a heavy cleaning agent like a chunk of TSP
Screenshot_20220623-133255_Gallery.jpg

But I definitely see some that have the "dual color purples" going on. If I can get if off I will do some before and after pics. Happy to help if I can

There is some serious gunk on them for sure. I was more talking about the “invisible” dust. Here’s one where you can see a barrel I used magic eraser on versus others, it helped but not that much. May just be a property of the chip. Even after using a US you can still see a little bit of dirt on some of the colors. I did not have any issues with purple though. If B finds a magical solution to get that dust layer off, would love to hear about it. I suspect that it would brigjten the colors up a bit too if it was gone.

I cleaned a rack of the primary $25s over the weekend and noticed the same thing. It's actually kind of amusing as the mold impression seems to affect the issue, the depressed RHC symbol is a hair darker. I cleaned mine primarily with dish soap and a brush, didn't go as far as scraping.

Yeah, I’d noticed the discolorations in the purple spots on the primary $25s in other peoples pictures - particularly in one picture where the guy had turned up the saturation or whatever to make the chips look less “washed out” than they naturally are. I noticed it in his pictures first, and then in a couple others, so I wasn’t shocked to see Ben’s post about Brie’s discovery. And I sat there thinking, boy I got lucky, must have got mine from the good batch because none of mine are like that.
Well upon closer examination, yes, I have some of that discoloration on the purple spots of my $25s too, which I had never noticed before. Which leads me to one conclusion: chippers be trippin.

Unfortunately we do not own a UV light... but may look into purchasing one. Very interesting that it is really only on the greens. I wonder if that is part of Paulsons formula on these? Maybe ordered that way for the casino to identify the chips easily? I have seen the discussions on it,and intrigued but again I have no way of checking if we got it off of ours right now. I'm legally blind in one eye, legally color blind... invisible dust is definitely beyond the restrictions of my vision. Lol

I guarantee it is on yours, you may notice those $25s feel "smoother" or "silker" than the others...that's the invisible dust coating IMO.

I hadn't noticed but your right, when I used my UV light on the 25 primaries it is there (including the ones I cleaned with magic eraser and dawn). It transfers very easily to hands, etc.

I no longer concern myself with the film as there are several Paulson colours that seem to have this including Day Green and some pinks.

The Jack Cincinnati chips bigtime have this as well. You can see the ring on my hand where i pushed the chip down in each hand.

IN before the next Ben and Brie wild chip theory (I joke, I joke, love you guys).

I've definitely noticed some sporadic purple fading in the 2 barrels of primary $25s that I've cleaned so far, as well as a few chips where all the colors were faded. I do wonder if they tried cleaning a batch of them and were a bit too aggressive about it.

I was thinking the same thing. I got 400 of them, and it definitely feels like at least some of these chips have gone through a bad cleaning experience.

I ran my $25s through the ultrasonic yesterday. Definitely quite a few with the same issue. Honestly though, I didn’t notice until seeing this thread and then I can’t imagine it bothering me in the long run.

I wonder if some oil might help bring back the faded colour? Has anyone who’s already oiled noticed an improvement?

Oiling wont fix this but it doesnt bother me at all either. Looks like those chips need a magic eraser as well.

I thought you were gonna say you ran them through the dishwasher, lol.

Hey, that gives me an idea….

Yeah, the $25s are the last rack I need to hit with the magic eraser. They were by far the worst of the bunch.

I did a pre-soak in simple green solution and then ultrasonic (also with simple green, as we don’t have TSP substitute here), but even with a longer cycle, the $25s need some extra work. They were admittedly the dirtiest of the bunch though.

Due to discoloration fears and not being in a rush I've been doing all my IG chips via dawn and magic eraser with great results.

Something only a chipper would appreciate but I find cleaning chips by hand helps me "connect" with the chips. Ok, ok, I've got problems

You clearly have more time and patience than me! That’s real chipping dedication! :wtf:
