Is it wood (hehehehe) or veneer? Calling all woodworking fans (1 Viewer)

The wife bought a furniture piece that she wants to refinish. Question, how can we tell if it's wood or a veneer finish? Is there something we can look for in the grain? Etc.... thanks.
I suck at photography so if you need better pics just let me know.

If the side view grain pattern does match the top grain pattern on the same piece of wood it is a veneer. Hard to tell from your pics
