Joy: An Open Letter from a New PCF Member (3 Viewers)

Cheers my friend! Always dive into something that brings you joy (within financial reason)
I am glad there are so many folks who were able to assist you or bring you positive sentiments upon joining the forum! Its great to see members still supporting one another and offering viable advice. Please continue to reach out, discuss, and make friends throughout your chipping journey.
As things progress hopefully you can make it to some meet ups and get to meet folks in person!
Cheers! Happy holidays and happy chipping!

My advice here would be to listen to your wife @VMR911 if she is indeed into chipping too, then try not to ruin it by pushing finances to the max with chips. When she starts saying "that's enough for now" try to restrain yourself! It can get ugly and expensive real quick without that voice of reason.

As far as being a Papa and a chipper there are soo many that have faced these dilemmas @Jeevansluck @JMC9389 @Highli99 @Pinkdan are all chippers that come to mind when it comes to being a provider, a good papa, and still completely obsessed with poker chips! Haha

I wish you the Best of Luck moving forward! The joy of chipping and balancing the complications of a happy and healthy Household! Hope the guy in the "red suit" slips a nice minty set of Paulsons under the tree for ya this year!
@Ben8257 Thank you for sharing :) That was epic! Thanks for the laughs, support and wisdom. I stumbled upon you and your wife (@FordPickup92)'s work in one of the cleaning/restoration threads and it was highly educational and I could tell both of you had such fun playing around with all of this.

Quick update: The guy in the "red suit" already showed up recently with my first ever Paulsons! I'm starting to build my first set!
I'll keep sharing my journey ahead.
Cheers!

Yes, reaching out was the first step and then I was astonished with the abundance of support and insight! Alas, here we are!
Thank you @FordPickup92 - I appreciate your support! Happy holidays and peace and blessings to you and your family :)

Hello everyone, after months of watching @Hobbyphilic and Christopher M.'s videos, thinking about the PCF community and loving poker chips from afar… I finally decided to join the PCF community on December 9th, 2021.

I was in denial for a while that I could have this as a hobby, in a way I was judging myself and seeing myself through my perceived projections of others (what would they say?) and this was especially alarming because I am about to become a Dad; Societal pressures and models were becoming more and more seductive, making me feel like my own life and my own joy no longer matter and that I have to “man up” for my wife, child and family. I was not letting myself feel the joy that comes with following what brings you joy (wouldn’t my child and the people who love me want that for me?). And poker chips, as well as poker bring me joy.

With that being said, I want to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the following individuals that gave me a warm welcome with open minds and open hearts; They welcomed me with the same joy they feel being here and doing what they love.

Warm Welcome

These are individuals who went above and beyond to welcome me to PCF and also shared personal insight of their own chipping journey.

@ImCrossland @Pinkdan @BearMetal @philhut @Newtons1st @JRald07 @ChipRocker @CLKin @MoT519
@Gorbash @allforcharity @Jeevansluck @Tommy

Great Guides

These are individuals who were great beacons of insight, wisdom, and knowledge. They helped me understand a variety of technical aspects of chipping.

@philhut @ImCrossland @Pinkdan @BearMetal @Carnth @Josh Kifer @David Spragg @Gear @casinochipper22 @allforcharity @Jeevansluck @BigSlick4523 @Stibnite @Ben8257 @FordPickup92 @Quad Johnson @fishsaybloop @abby99 @HaRDHouSeiNC @PhillyB @Nanook

Excellent Sellers

These are individuals who helped me start on my chipping journey; I had positive interactions and experiences with them. They were compassionate, friendly and fair to me as a first time buyer of many of these items.

@Pinkdan @BigSlick4523 @JRald07 @ChipRocker @CLKin @FestiveKnight @JWC @casinochipper22 @MoT519 @DuffCal @Poker4ever

Responsive Support

These are individuals who I only had a brief moment with and in that time they were quick to respond and answer my questions.

@mike32 @FordPickup92 @Chippy McChiperson @JustDogbert @TheChipRoom @Hunter @Goldfish @Roll Tide Roll @pepelewpewpew @JWJ @Organista1 @Feneck84 @mcguiles @toothpic @Richard Cranium @ArielVer18 @Mushmanchuman @Himewad @chipinla @cvanem @Grimace @doublebooyah85 @Tommy

Special mention: To my wife Sarah, who continues to push me to follow my joy.

I’ve already made good friends in my first week here, and it doesn’t matter how long my chipping journey will be because in such a small time you all have touched my life with joy.

Follow your joy. Use joy as a compass. Here is to PCF! Here is to Joy!
Well said get ready to own a lot of poker chips in no time

almost like the pringles saying "Once you pop you can't stop" this is "Once you start you can't stop" lol

P.S. @FordPickup92 and @Ben8257 - Fun fact: Did you know I got to know what hooker juice is after I stumbled upon your work in this thread.
I was never the same after that and I realized that I'll never regain my innocence again.
My "work" station is a mess... but this sums up everyday life for us!

And no that is not cocaine residue on the table, that's where wet chips sit with Oxi still on them.

Ben book warning Y'all, Yee Bee Warned!!

Ohh man! I love this comment, there is nothing cooler than chipping with a partner, so many people in this hobby are flying Solo when it comes to chips. Some wives play, some even enjoy the chips, a few are even members!

Literally @FordPickup92 and I are coming up on 3 years in this hobby and we absolutely love it, even that is an understatement... pathetic or not it has become our life. To say a day doesn't go by without talking about chips is just silly, often an hour doesn't go by without talking chips! Lol

YES I agree we agree that we are on the extreme end of the spectrum of hoarding, obsessive! As I said yesterday with rising prices and no where near enough supply to.fill the demand of desperate chippers. I just don't see the prices coming back down and this hobby returning to a Blue Collar swap meet for "the good stuff" that being said we decided it was time to pump the breaks, no more sets, just finish up the projects we are already working on! Well that was 4 - 5 sets ago and still buying chips! Plus another almost $300 in cases to hold them! Lol

We do not have children and really chipping is the only thing we spend money on (often chips before food! Lmao) but if you can keep your wife interested, get her into playing, possibly helping designing custom inlays. If you can keep her intrest, then oh man is this hobby even better as a team!

As mentioned above, chips are absolutely awesome! But the community is just so much more than that! We attended 6 meet ups this year in 6 different states, had some of the best damn times all over the country with a bunch of Chip Nerds! I'm pretty damn proud to call myself one and also to call these great people family now!

My advice here would be to listen to your wife @VMR911 if she is indeed into chipping too, then try not to ruin it by pushing finances to the max with chips. When she starts saying "that's enough for now" try to restrain yourself! It can get ugly and expensive real quick without that voice of reason.

Happy Holidays and Keep On Chippin!!

... But seriously, getting kids into this hobby is quite fun. Just check out this thread of all the creative things that they've done for me...

Edit: and eventually they come fully into the fold and spend months on the weekends designing their very own set...

Patrick that is seriously Flippin addorable Brother!! I'll be over if you ever start getting them playing! Also I am a mean Poker Chip Castle Builder... as long as we are not using Matsui! Lol

Also probably the sexiest round table I have ever seen. Gorilla knocked that one out of the park!

Thank you for this amazing breath of fresh air and optimism. I’m reading so much vitriol on various threads including USA vs. Canada bickering. What has the world come to?

Lol I let them play with the Matsuis because I don’t care if they fall on the floor! The 3 year old loves the racker stacker although he calls it a wacker Thacker because he can’t pronounce Rs or Ss.
