I have a design in mind. Do you have any tricks of how to create a circular repeating pattern in illustrator? I want a betline with rotary repeating pattern outside, and and a graphic inside.

I can do it myself manually in I guess 10 hours so that is probably the way, but I've got a very old version of illustrator. I imagine the latest versions supports macros or python inserts or something ??

I use layers, group them, and copy/paste them. Then group those, and copy/paste those.

Rinse, wash, repeat.

It's probably not the most efficient way, but it works for me.

Disclaimer: I use an old version of Photoshop, which varies from Illustrator, but many processes may be similar.

It's actually a lot less than 10hrs more like 5mins! (I was a little drunk last night).

Like you say, just need to create the pattern in a segment of the donut (my pattern is on the racetrack area) eg a 1/16 segment, and then do some copy and rotate operations.

I would copy the 1/16 segment. Then rotate it 22.5deg. (Include the 1.2m circle in the copy+rotate, and it will rotate about the centre). Then take the 2 segments and copy+rotate to get 4 segments done. ... 2 more times and it's done (delete the extra circles).

My Wife got it to put it away as a birthday gift for me, I just had the chance to put it on the table once to see if we measured the size correctly. No, this is an 8 seater Costway from Amazon. It's narrower and shorter than the Barrington so had to resize to suit. Comes in at 59cm x 159cm. Measured 3 time to be sure. Unsewn edges, yes.
