Lack of Interest Matsui 43 mm Sands Tournament Set (2 Viewers)

So after @liftapint created the WSOP Tribute set I got a sample and regretted not getting a whole set. I have completed the design for a very similar set and wanted to gauge the interest.

So , just let me know what you think of these and also put down what you might be interested in.

A few items to keep in mind:

1. Yes, I copied some of Mel's chips!
2. We need to reach the 500 minimum for each chip
3. The order thread will be separate, this is just for interest
4. I will be offering sample sets in the order thread
5. I have been in contact with Matsui and they have raised their prices since the WSOP group buy. We will be closer to $1.90-$1.95 per chip on these.
6. I have a shuffle stack that I would be glad to loan out if people would like to see these in person. They are fantastic chips. If you have interest in borrowing the shuffle stack please let me know. All that I will ask is that you only keep it a day or two then send to the next person that wants to see it. And that the last person in line sends them back home.
7. Much thanks to @timinater for help on the label. Once the order thread goes up we will have much better renderings.
8. I will ship anywhere. Shipping from me to you will be separate
9. I will create a jeton similar to the Horseshoe if we have the interest. Should be under $20 each
10. These are 43 mm chips

So please look these over and let me know what you think:

These are great.

I find the way the 6 edge spots (wrapped onto the face) don’t line up with the 4 denoms on the face tickles my OCD nerve a little. I find it kind of weird Matsui offer it as an option, but it’s definitely less triggering than the 5 edge vs 4 face designs in their tool.

They’re still great looking chips.
I can definitely be OCD about some things, but this one is a non issue to me. Chip design looks great.

In terms of design feedback, does anyone else think the 6-fold symmetry of the edge spots a little jarring next to the 4-fold symmetry of the denoms?

I mean it’s not super tilting or anything, just a little sub-optimal on a $2 priced chip.
I deeply appreciate this level of hypersensitivity to details.

Wow!! I would be super interested if you can add a 1 chip. Given the responses so far, I think we can easily hit the order minimum.

Edit: maybe all you need is alternate denominations for the yellow (0.25) and white chips (1)

6v4 is a basic polyrhythm. Intriguing, but not disruptive.
You clearly invested in a “word of the day” calendar.

Compared to the Horsehoe GB, the face of these is much busier. Generally, I prefer a cleaner look but the overall look and design of these is great. Excited to see the final offering.

It’s a bummer about the lack of a .25 option.

Someone somewhere else asked about dirty stacks between the 100 and 500. Doesn’t look like it would be an issue but maybe something to reconfirm.

Btw, one small input: the design element between the denominations on the 5 and 25 are quite similar. Can one of them be changed to something else?

Also, given the drastic movements in foreign exchange rates, I’m surprised these cost more. Can a rough cost breakdown be provided? Is your $1.90 to $1.95 before or after reshipping?

For reference, here’s @liftapint ‘s cost breakdown:
$1.53 per chip - This includes $1.24 for the base chip, $0.25 for Mirror Gold printing on the inlay, and $0.04 J5 design fee…

There is a $215 design fee from Matsui for the chips and for the jeton (total of $430). These fees will be split equally across all orders (on a per chip and per jeton basis).
We will know the shipping (to me) cost when we place the order, and this will be paid at the time of your order.

There are other potential fees (bank wire fees, import broker fees, etc), that will not be known until after the order is placed. These will be added to your reshipping costs, collected after I have received the chips.

Given the fees in the recent Matsui group buy, I expect shipping (to me) to run about $0.15/chip. So we should be at an all-in cost of about $1.75-$1.80/chip.

I think the final costs ended up at $1.73 (before any reshipping). Remember that a stronger dollar will make shipping from Korea to the US more expensive (for Matsui) too.

As I stated in the OP, Matsui has raised their prices. She stated they have raised them twice in 2022. Here is how I came up with my number:

Matsui:
Base chip $1.40
Mirror Printing- $.25
Matsui Art- ($215/number of chips)- $.02
Art fee- $.04

Shipping- $.25 (I think Mel's was closer to $.23 so I added a little just in case) She said she ships via Fedex

Total before reshipping from me to you- $1.96

We will not know the exact shipping total until we place the order.

So I took most of the comments and made some changes. Hopefully this will satisfy most of the wants. I could not figure out how to add a poll but added two options to the OP. Let me know

I like A.

Check out this link. Maybe the element between the denominations of the 5 or 25 can be changed to the same ones on the pink chip or orange chip?

Btw, I like that these don’t have a currency symbol, making them much more flexible.

The design element is part of the inner ring for that denomination. If you want the denomination to be 5, that is the design element you get. Or blank (no design element at all, like on the WSOP Horseshoe chips). Or you can design your own inner ring (like Tommy did with Abbiati), but it is something like $3500 per design.

TLDR - no, can’t change the design element.

Definitely A. The B chip is too plain, especially for those that will use it at the top of a tournament set.

I notice you removed the 100K. I went back to post number 1 to remind myself what it looked like, Because I was thinking you might just make that one the non-denom. But you took it off there too. What color was it? I just wonder if you want two yellow chips in the set? You don't have any chips with a blue or pink base color. If I recall, they only offer a few specific colors, correct? What other colors have not been used here as a base color?

I was thinking the same thing about two yellows. The light blue color that matches the edge spot of the 100 could be used as the base of the non-denom.

The 100k chip was the same colors as the new "1". I figured it would be easier to meet minimums with the "1" rather than the "100k" and loved the look of the chip. I don't much like the blue base chip as seen in the WSOP group buy.

Can't use the pink base for the NCV in case some want to use it as a quarter. Would cause dirty stacks with the "5". So yes there are two yellows but I do not think they would ever be on the table at the same time, whether used as a quarter or a 100k.
