Hi All

I am new to this forum, and looking to get my first decent poker set. I already have the dice chips, which I have had since university, but now its time to get into something better.

Ive watched a lot of reviews and have narrowed down my options to either Milano or Majestic (both CC's). Iam looking to get 500 chips mainly geared towards small cash games, but an option for tournaments would be nice too, although I assume I will need to up my chip count from 500 to 1000 to accommodate this properly.

I suppose my questions is really is what's better, Milano or Majestic? wanted to get your opinions on why one is better over the other.

Thanks in advance all

Ohh I should add, I have got samples of both these sets, and am just torn between the two. But have to admit the majestic poker chips have very vibrant colourings

In terms of quality, they are both about the same, though there are some quirks to each.

For me, personally, I just love the design of the Majestics. The black label looks so classy. Milanos are nice too, but the Majestics look much nicer to me.

I'm a big fan of the MIlanos, but with these two choices I don't think you can go wrong, especially if you have samples and are happy with both.

Other quirks... The Milanos had some prior thickness issues (but I think it's been resolved for the most part). I have a huge set of Milanos and really like them. I was all set to order the Majestics as a replacement set for my CPS chips, as I really loved the look and mold of them. However, when my buddies received their Majestic sets, there was a huge issue with the oblong-ness or overall diameter differences in certain denoms (primarily the 100's). It was very noticeable. So for a tourney set 25/100/500, etc... the hundo would be the workhorse chip, and I didn't want it to have quirks that would have bothered me (forever). I wound up just getting a CPC tourney set (cost a bit more tho). If I were using these for a small denom cash set (not using the hundos), I'd probably lean towards the Majestics for their bright colors. However, it's a personal taste thing, and they're both solid contenders. Can't go wrong.

I love how these are always 50/50 for and against.

If you do decide on getting them, and shipping from America then let me know -- I may get a set, too, so there may be savings to be had in shipping if bulk bought? I don't know though... I still can't make up my mind what to do. One day I want these, the next ceramics, the next who knows...

lol Adam, tell me about it.

I've given up hope on choosing between a ceramic and china clay. I've decided I am going get one of each - just hope my wife wont notice I've bought two sets for a while.

Ceramics - I am choosing between the EPT set or the Tiki Kings.
China Clays - you already know. Every time I think I have made a decision, I look at the other set and get unsure again.

I will let you know what I decide, ill look into checking if bulk ordering will be cheaper.

Decision made!!!

Josh at Apache just got back to me regarding 5c labels for the Majectis, which is perfect for my small cash games (gonna use them as 5p over here in the UK).

Even though the Milano's are really nice, the majestics win it!

Now I just need to work on my denoms and also decide on a ceramic chip set too!

Great choice. Just remember that the black chips have diameter variances. Pretty noticeable. Other colors are awesome

Good choice! I've always felt the Majestics were the better choice based on the colors. The Milanos while superior in "quality" ways are better, there just isn't any going back on the color combos on some of the chips. ie: the purple. *puke*

Well that's your problem right there, Manestics were the off brand of the Majestics, you should have got the real deal. ;)

@MillyS , Tiki Kings are one of my favorite ceramics ever!!!! Do it!!!!
Yup, I am just waiting on my sample set to Tiki's. I think I can get away with 2 set purchases as my wife really likes the Tiki design too. lol

Over the past 2 months I purchased ~15 sample sets of ceramics and for me the Tiki Kings were by far the #1 choice for feel, design, and quality.

And if you go with a $5, $25, $100, $500 tourney set you will get one of each suit. The red $5 has heart, green $25 has club, black $100 has spade, and purple $500 has diamond (look closely). Pretty cool design feature in my opinion.

Where did you get your Tiki samples from?

Tiki Kings chips and sample sets are available from OWPS or BRPro Poker.

Just to add to what BGinGA said...

When I bought the Tiki King samples in January, BRProPoker carried the Tiki Kings but were not offering a sample set (at least I didn't see one on their site), so I purchased my sample set from Sal at OWPS ($11.78 shipped to MA).

But this raises a question. Is this the EXACT same Tiki King chip between the various suppliers like BroProPoker and OWPS, or is this a case where they both have the rights to the art but could potentially be printing the Tiki Kings on different blanks (i.e. Sun-Fly for one and a different blank for the other)? The Tiki King was originally a PGI/Chipco design right? Trying to get this all flushed out.

BRProPoker now offer the sample sets, ordered one a week ago to the UK, should hopefully have it in a day or so.

Good question regarding the suppliers though, would love to know the answer too.

Got the Tiki samples set a while ago, not fond of 'em as they feel too insubstantial, too like a token in a kids game or sumfink (I mean the feel, not the graphics BTW) as opposed to a poker chip.

I think I posted this elsewhere but FYI the Majestics that I have are not oblong.
They just have 2 diameters. I bought 140 blue and 140 black and was able to get a close to perfect rack of blue and the 80 black I needed.

Tiki Kings are produced by Sun-Fly. The Sun-Fly blanks have changed a couple of times over the years, so an older sample set may not be the exact same as what you'd get if you ordered today.

BRPro offers sample sets, and has as long as I can remember (going back at least 8 years). They also offer custom denominations, but only on the standard seven Tiki Kings colors.

Decided on the following colours and breakdowns for my majestics.

200 - 5c chips - white
100 - 25c chips - salmon/pink
100 - 50c chips - orange
100 - $1 chips - blue
50 - $5 chips - red
25 - $25 chips - green
25 - $100 chips - black

These breakdowns are for my low limit cash games (very low limit). What do you guys think?

Ideally I would have loved to use the yellows as my 5c chips, but they are out of stock for 5/6 months - lol I don't have the patience for that.

Going to get the Tiki's (my wife loves the design even though she doesn't play poker and I am not going to say no to buying more chips lol  :whistling:) Will get the EPT set for my Tourney set.

This should keep me satisfied ...... until I decide on CPC

You could buy the labeled yellow chip then remove the label. It's really easy to switch labels on the Majestics.

IMHO the .50 are redundant. The quarters by themselves will work just as well if not better. I would substitute with more 1s.
