Pokerset buying guide (2 Viewers)

Lars, I totally get you wanting to play with the chips that look the best to you.

Ceramics like the WSOP you were looking at have upsides and downsides.

Upsides are - relatively cheaper than clay, easier to clean, no worries about labels popping off, decent feel and sound

The main downside is quality. There are some ceramic sets that are great in quality and there are some that just meh.

In terms of quality, I talk about 2 things. One is print quality. The design of the chip is dyed(?) right onto the chip and depending on the design of the chip and the manufacturing process you can often see imperfections in the printing due to resolution issues either with the source image or the maybe limitations of the printing equipment.

The other is in the construction of the chip itself. If you look in videos by hobbyphilic on Youtube he often reviews ceramics and he shows by pinching the edges of a stack of ceramics and spinning said stack how QC inconsistencies make taller stacks a little unstable.

I have 3 ceramic sets, the Laurel design, the EPT themed, and the 43mm Slowplay ceramics, which are by far the best. You can buy them directly from Amazon in the exact denominations you want an with matching themed Plaques as well.

Most importantly with the Slowplays is you can get them in 43mm, which is not only neat but I think helps with quality and stability issues as well.

Hope this helps you about ceramics.

One thing about evaluating samples of ceramics is while you can evaluate aesthetics with a single sample, you will want a stack of maybe 10-20 to do pinch and spin tests.

IMHO, the Majestics are bulletproof in terms of quality, some of the best short of Paulson and maybe CPC chips, and are good value for money. Good investments.
okay thanks helps me out so will go for the majestic due to quality that you mentioned

I am sure you won't go wrong with the Majestics.

Mind you, that doesn't mean you probably won't get a ceramic set as well considering their price.

If you can get samples that would, indeed be the best way to move forward.

In the home games I play at, I see a lot of Milanos, Desert Heats, etc. Those seem to work just fine for our purposes.

Milanos are great value, IMHO. I would say they are the best "starter" sets for look, weight and feel close to the real thing without breaking the bank.

Both are by Claysmith btw, Milanos being the only ones without a metal slug insert. Desert Heat weighs around 14g or so. I prefer the Milanos

Need some help here i finally figured out i will go with the majestics 500chip set for cash game. But i need help with the denominations. We are 6-8 people buy in is 10€ and i want enough chips for 2 rebuys per person. Thanks in advance

For 8 players :

5c x 80
25 x 160
1 x 160
5 x 80
25 x 20

This 500-chip breakdown has a bank of 130 per player.

This would get you covered for stakes NL (5c - 5c), NL10 (5c - 10c) and NL25 (25c - 25c).

Not bad for a 500-chip count.

Do not hesitate to buy a couple of spares of each denom.

Sounds good but what would you suggest with main chips 5c, 25c, 50c and 1& and what would be a good starting stack of chips for 10€ and for 2 rebuys per person?

50c would only be useful if you use a 10c chip.
5c goes well with 25c.
10c goes well with 50c.

NL10 starting stack :
10 x 5c = 0.5
18 x 25c = 4.5
5 x 1 = 5
--> Total = 10

So you would not recommend get maybe a couple of 50c chips and change them for some 25c in the starting stack? For the rebuy is it then the same stack as for the starting stack?

I would not recommend that.

For the rebuys :

First 4 rebuys :
  1. 4 x 25c
  2. 8 x 1
Next 8 rebuys : 10 x 1
And then you can issue the following rebuys using the 5.

For the Nl5 and Nl25 would be the starting stack the same? What would be the denominations for rebuys?

Get Samples!

By the way - the Pokershop.de Chips are from Anita. If you want better Chinese Keramiks go with Tina.
