Has anyone purchased these Modiano cards?

I couldn't find any reviews on the forum. Are they good? I have trouble knowing if the back is nice or not

I really like their cards though you should be aware there is a lot of ill feeling here towards them due to them screwing over a member/sponsor (Desjn, check the marketplace section). I believe they have also rebranded as DaVinci.

In any case all of the Modiano cards I have I absolutely love. For a long time the Cristallos were, in my mind, the best inexpensive plastic card going. I have some bridge size casino sets which are my favorite and equal to older (80s, 90s) casino KEMS.

These particular decks mentioned in the OP were cut unevenly causing uneven corners when shuffled. That don't make them marked, but it's par for the course in terms of poor quality control. Poor quality control that they refuse to acknowledge as evidenced by not refunding desjgn for what were very obviously marked cards.

Public customers, casinos and card supply companies are starting to catch on. Desjgn no longer uses their stock, and Abbiatti, another Italian company at that, after years of exclusively selling Modiano, now only sell Cartamundi.

I think it is important to note that almost exclusively the cards of theirs that I like and have stock of are at least 10+ years old. I have bought one deck of the new da Vinci branded cards and to be fair they did seem the same as the older ones I have but as noted above quality control is a concern for many people here.

The attached are the cards I have both Modiano (circa 2007) and DaVinci (current) versions of. No difference between the two that I can tell.

Modiano platinum series are very good. I have been using them almost exclusively for years. They are made from acetate as opposed to pvc. The cards referenced in the OP are not the platinum series, and therefore not acetate. If you want the best, you want acetate.

Dang! I just bought me a couple setups.

Hmmmmm, I’ll now have to get out of bed and investigate these flaws

Yes I am aware of the misadventure that Jason experienced. I read the thread that talks about this.

Are you talking about the Alphas?

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the information. Therefore, I cross them off my list.

We may find Cartamundi bridge/jumbo then! :ROFLMAO:

That's the question I was asking myself. I have seen Ruote and Palermo cards made by Modiano in the past and now they are sold under the DaVinci name. I have to say I was a bit confused.

Modiano platinum series are very good.
The only Modianos I'll buy are Platinums.
Without a doubt, I would go this way if they were in bridge format :)

I actually own the Alpha, which are fine, but I was looking for an alternative (with the Modiano look) without the security ink and without the casino back.

It‘s an old one but yes, i ordered 2 decks in Germany and these would be great cards!
Nice shuffle, no sharp edges, good flex.
But they all have a color issue on the back!
Every deck (in stock also) is damaged.
Explains the low price…

Well acetate is great material for cards but does not guarantee superior performance. It helps with with flex and most of acetate shuffle great but overall durability also depends on how ink is applied on the cards surface.
Do you remember Cartamundi Belgian stock? Made from acetate, great performance, wonderful snap and shuffle, but they were losing ink very fast.
On the flip side KEMs are made from acetate and suffer from bowing that so many complain but they do not lose ink thanks to unique printing process.

I’ve a dealer experienced with a several brands of the plastic poker cards for my poker league. Actually, we do like the Modiano better than Da Vinci dues to their marker will fading away! KEM is wonderful but priciest. Fourier ain’t great for not lasting long like it will become harder to slinging! Bicycle (100%) is horrible causes can’t collects all the cards put a togethers become harder! Design is the worst experience that I cannot slinging dues to the card won’t slinging like a stick glue on the table! Slow play is alright below the average, bit stiffy while shuffle and bit like bicycle put it together. By far, the Modiano is the one most reasonable price and balance of the cards. Next one will be on the way from Broken Arrow! Good Luck!

Where do COPAGs fit based on your findings?

Yes, Copag has the most thinnest cards like KEM! Both are great!
KEMs are not that thin....
Plus I think that when people talk about thin cards they talking about phenomenon I call "dancing deck". You know when you open fresh deck and top cards seams to hoover and dance, until they get some hooker juice.

Copags are the most slippery I 've ever handled, which may be a bad or good thing, depending on tastes and priorities.

ewwwww =)

My Acetate Modianos warped during their first use. Just like my KEMS. Won't buy Acetate anything anymore.

EDIT: Casino Dice are also made out of Cellulose Acetate & I will still purchase these but only for decoration purposes.

I've actually had a deck of Kem acetates flake on me. It was a WSOP set and while one deck is perfectly fine, the other deck was disintegrating on me like nothing I've seen since.

I imagine acetates must have an inherent flaw somewhere in their batches.

But to be fair, I've had much better luck with Modianos. All my decks resist warping well, and I live in Southeast Asia. They generally wear out by losing fading, compared to other decks that warp before they fade.

These aren’t the same as the OP, but figured I’d pile on the Modiano QC issue which has been well documented in other places too.

These were always my favorite because they’re bridge jumbo but without the boxes in the middle.

I opened a new setup today and there’s noticeable yellowing on the faces and backs of one of the decks. It was hard to capture on the back (blue deck) but the photos for the faces came out pretty clearly.

I bought these years ago and kept a bunch of the sealed setups so there’s really no recourse here other than keeping them for home/family use. I tried cleaning with several different things but that yellow color is baked in there.

Same here :

The red decks are good but my 3 blue have all the same issue.

It's a pity, as, as you said, otherwise, they would be amazing cards !

If you are the only guy shuffling at the table, then Copags are a godsend.

Plus the fact that they glide so easily across the table, right past chip stacks, and onto the floor - it keeps the players alert!

Copag *4-Color Faces* FTW!

Weird. Have two setups of davinci poker jumbo and they're fine, very impressed with the quality. Have had horrible experiences with Kem (bowing) and Copags (colours bleeding from back to front).
