My Journey As A Professional Poker Player (23 Viewers)

Also and its likely not something you can do this time, it would be easier to see 4 color on this as well I think.

I like the top is transparent dark and not black.

at least help the viewers and shave your crusty white arms, we can't be bothered with your sasquatch body hair

The action is easier to follow on the electronic site.

I know its a ton of effort, but is there some way to show position correlated with a bet or stack.

The electronic version you could see pot totals, and which helped with understanding the action. So if you had an SPR < 1 or close it made it understandable when you called with 10s on the turn. I mean its a sucky spot but at least I understood your donk moves.  (jk)

Right now I'm still getting used to vlogging live and tracking the action. So trying to keep it as simple as possible and over time as I become more proficient I can expand what I display

I had a ton of trouble locating a set of cards I could use to display, if you manage to find a set of four color cards I can incorporate in the future I can look to use those

It would be helpful if you sat on about 3 telephone books so your head is more than 6 inches above the table.

The tables The Lodge uses doesn't allow you to lift up the rail. So the Pocket Jack that I'm using to hold my phone could normally be slid under the rail, but instead I have to put it on top of the rail. I also need to be careful where it's positioned since I'm showing my cards to the phone and don't want neighbors to be able to view it.

I dislike comments directed towards the dealer, even those made in jest (e.g., “sucka dealer”). Dealers are just doing a job, and already have to deal with enough garbage. Regular pros like you should be the bright spot in their day. Just my $0.02.

The dealers I've encountered actually crack the fuck up when I shout SUCKA DEALA! at them. They know it's in jest and don't take any offense. I also shout "BESTA DEALA!" at times too.

I agree that dealers do take a lot of abuse and have a hard job, and fortunately they're able to differentiate when someone is actually being an asshole to them.

Plus, everyone knows the dealers have a whiteboard in the break room where they track how many beats they deal and the one with the most wins the prize pool!

I'm going to go with cringe. The running commentary is fine, but the end is weird with the fake Asian accent, etc Also if someone has to wonder wtf you are doing at the table, it's kinda of meh for the atmosphere. Just my 2 cents.

If you can just find a simple A-K with the suit, it might look better. I'm sure editing all the in is obnoxious. Eventually pot, effective stack, would be nice, but it's just so much to track live.

I guess it translates better in-person at the table. I picked it up off a Chinese guy from Tampa who would yell SUCK DEALER! and though it was comical so I started doing it too. In-person the dealers crack up, other tablemates crack up and I haven't had it taken in a way that believes I'm doing it maliciously. But I can understand hearing it in my video without prior context isn't going to translate as well.

Not sure what you mean by this comment?

Do you mean a different set of card graphics than the ones I'm using? I'm assuming that's what you're referring to?

I'm sure editing all the in is obnoxious. Eventually pot, effective stack, would be nice, but it's just so much to track live.

Right now starting out live vlogging I'm a bit overwhelmed. It's obviously much harder to track action than when I was playing online and had hand replays I could go back and refer to. So while I'm filming I'll speak into my phone quietly to try and capture the action (utg straddles, mp calls the 10, flop is King of hearts, Ace of spades, Queen of diamonds, etc).

As I become more proficient and comfortable doing this I'll get better at stack sizes, pot sizes, etc. I've just been focused on making sure I get the action and cards right first as I hobble my way through figuring it out

i actually assumed that was another player until i read this, and i was wondering why it was close captioned. knowing that is not the case, i strongly agree with this comment.

So what you're saying is....................................I do a convincing Asian accent!

As far as the closed captioning goes, I put in commentary text for myself, the dealer and other tablemates, so the closed captions aren't only for my talk at the table.

Again, I can understand how it comes across on video compared with in a live setting. I'm generally laughing and joking with the table keeping the atmosphere light, and there are Asian guys (and other players as well) that start shouting SUCKA DEALA! with me as well throughout my sessions.

I guess it's my version of Ryan DePaulos "fuck yo' mutha".

i guess "you had to be there" doesnt translate well into a vlog. i enjoy your content in general, just my honest opinion on this point.

Basically a player asked, 'you said sucking... Dealer' then you just yelled it again. Maybe there was an explanation that followed. If not, it's minimum eye roll and move on. Also you aren't in Tampa, so new place that doesn't know the player you are mimicking.

Yeah, more of just the 'peel ' with number and suit below

Echo what people have already noted.

Full card graphics do not translate well when viewing on a phone. Use :4h::qh::as: instead.

Agree with others, your fake Chinese accent is offensive. It's not cool.

I tend to be kinda tone-deaf to offensiveness because I just never did politically correct very well. But for the sake of argument cause I just can't help myself sometimes, here is an Asian poker vlogger doing a white guy Bostonian accent. Is this also offensive or is it ok?

Not sure if serious. He specifically references a well known character and movie. Continues the bit throughout. No issues.

Now if he would do this accent in a mocking tone randomly in Boston after a beat or bad play, which could easily be insulting, different story.

If you rubbed your nipples/chest and said I love poker like Chau Giang. Fine, but only older poker fans would get it

So there is such thing as ‘sucker dealer’, it’s an insult, and it pertains to a dealer who always produces miracle cards for bad players.

While this is post hoc ergo proctor hoc, it’s the intent that makes it offensive.

Tim Minchin is a musician and a comedian who targets religion as the focus of his humor. He talks about ‘Finger banging your mom’ and the censorship of the media of the word Finger and language and how the offensiveness of the phrase should be on banging, he goes through the gambit and is very funny, while approaching the topic logically.

The take away is this, the intent plays the largest role and if you can’t laugh at yourself or the stereotypes associated with your demographics then you’re going to hard time in this life. Timing can make an impact and the poker tables I’ve frequented are not politically correct places

Personally @Anthony Martino has a high EQ and is not malicious in any way and I think that easily comes across at the table and in person. no one is above his mischievous jokes, not him, not his mother and certainly not me
(I’ve heard him crack jokes about everything and everyone equally haha)
In the end he’s a good judge of others and isn’t out to slight others at all

It is true that I pull no punches and everyone is equally a target, including myself (height, Jewish heritage, etc) and I trend towards exceedingly dark humor at times.

At the same time, while I feel in person people are understanding and laughing along with it, I do want to be cognizant of how it's perceived from those outside looking in when they watch my videos.

I'm going to reach out to some vloggers I know for feedback as well (brantzen whose video I shared, greg goes all-in, etc)

I’ve never used it but thought this looked handy.

You can use the Poker Bankroll Tracker app and input your HHs and and export the overlay video after.

Thanks for the headsup. I took a look but it seems like it's going to have a bunch of steps too

overlay.png

I'd have to manually input hands into the app on my phone. Then upload it online, then change url's and overlay the video while using blue or green screen to filter out the background color.

I'm already comfortable with my editing software. I managed to create a number of templates so when I put the cards into it, for instance, I can click a template and it resizes and positions them on the screen where I want (heroes 1st card, 2nd card, flop 1, flop 2, villian 1, etc)

What's adding extra time for me this time around is that I'm finding there's some fun banter in my videos that I want to incorporate into the vlog. So I need to cut and splice my voiceover in between some of the banter, and I'm taking time to put text overlays to share what is being said (which adds a decent chunk of time)

But I think it'll be worth it to have the mix of narration and that "being there" feel when you hear the actual sounds from the table and players.

Bought 2k in chips, put 1k into play. Ran pure, dodged bad rivers while getting max value on previous streets

Cashed out $7,451. My biggest win EVAR!!

Damn, them is some ugly-ass chips! But I guess 5 grand in profit makes them a whole lot purdier. Welcome to Texas Anthony! Hope I get a chance to meet you soon.

Did I see in another thread that you have moved here? Your profile still says Tampa.

Yeah, basic ceramics. Just moved to Round Rock a couple weeks ago, only 10 minutes from The Lodge

I'll update my PCF profile

I think Anthony's "offensiveness" is mitigated once you meet Anthony. I agree that the fake Asian accent can come across as offensive, in the same way Jerry Lewis's Asian characters from long-ago. I can see the vlog losing some viewers because of it, and it certainly does not add any appeal to the video (probably because us viewers have no context).

I also fail to find the "funny" in the comment in the vlog, though since I know Anthony I also do not take it as offensive.

Vlogs need to be both entertaining, and educational - but mostly entertaining. Getting a snippet of an "inside" joke, does not entertain in a single hand, but over the course of the entire video, it may become funny.

Just something to consider as a vlogger: once your income becomes supplemented by YouTube, you are not just a poker player anymore - you're also an entertainer.

Fundamentally speaking. If you are a professional poker player, you are an entertainer based on that alone.

This is also true. You have to make people not mind paying to feed your three cats each week, or funding the inserts for your shoes that make you a few inches taller
