Mystery CPC Custom Set - Samples CLOSED (2 Viewers)

Luckily my mail is pretty consistent on weekdays (smallish town).

Weekends are a crapshoot but they tend to be earlier rather than later. I still usually have my mail by 1pm.

The route is split during the week between a man and a woman but they must run the same schedule. The only difference is that he delivers boxes before starting on the street, and she delivers them after finishing the street. She has gotten me a few times when I didnt think I got anything once the regular mail was dropped, but then came back about 15 minutes later.

I'm losing my optimism about these coming tomorrow as I don't have any updates from USPS since they left Maine yesterday. The expected delivery date does still show as tomorrow through.

I did go out and buy some mineral oil, though I'm not sure when I will have the time to clean and oil these.

I planned on sending out the samples chalky/new. If the general consensus is that people prefer their sample sets cleaned/oiled I can do that, but it'll add some time to when I can ship them.

Once the chips come in I'll tag those who were interested in samples and post my PayPal address here for payment. I'll also send PMs after a day or so for those who aren't following this thread.

I did go out and buy some mineral oil, though I'm not sure when I will have the time to clean and oil these.

Tip... if you don't have time to do them all then don't do any. Once you have the in-hand visual of oiled CPC vs non-oiled CPC it will eat away at your soul until they are all done.

I think I'm actually going to try the oil and water trick.

Or maybe do a barrel each way to compare results, then see which I want to do.

I've only ever oiled 1 barrel of chips (BCC T-molds, a REALLY long time ago) so I'm a little nervous about it.

As do I but really oiling the edges effectively oils the face as well, at least in my experience. a tiny amount gets through the cracks so when I wipe the chips the faces need wiped individually resulting in a full oiling.

My plan is to post photos once people start receiving their samples. I was thinking it'd be cool if the first time people saw the chips it would be in person. This obviously doesn't work for people getting them in person 1-2 months from now, so I can send photos upon request.

Or if people just don't care I'll post a couple quick photos for everyone here to see. I'm not going to take many detailed photos until I get them oiled though.

I oiled all of the chips this morning (except the samples) and they're laying out to dry.

The first round of samples should be shipped out on Tuesday. Anybody who hasn't paid by tomorrow night may have to wait until Friday to get them shipped. I'll send out PMs later to those who haven't paid/let me know when they'll pay.

We will be having a game night on Friday, where these chips will debut to keep score for the various board and card games we play.

Photos should be posted in full later that night or on Saturday sometime.

If anybody that has ordered samples does not want to wait until they get them to see the photos, please send a PM and I'll send a couple quick photos I took yesterday.

My next custom set (if applicable) will be done a little differently, but I enjoyed the element of surprise and secrecy for this one. I wanted to make sure it was exactly what I wanted to get without too many opinions guiding it.

Edit - 2 more quick notes

1. I've had a couple people ask whether or not I have extra sample sets. I did receive some extra chips, but only 3 of those chips were T25 chips which means I cannot afford to put extra sample sets together (I need to save some extras for broken/lost chips.)

2. Everybody who committed to buying a sample set blind will be getting a bonus 7th chip that I did not talk about in this thread. It was a last minute addition before submitting my order, and I did not add any money to the total owed for sample sets. This is just a gift for putting blind faith in the set and wanting samples (y) :thumbsup:

I planned on packing these up tonight and mailing them tomorrow, but an unexpected half day at work allowed me to do it now. These should go out today!

For those who have ordered sample chips, if at some point in the future you decide you no longer want them, please offer me the opportunity to buy them back from you before sending them elsewhere. I do not plan to add onto this set, so there will be no more samples/extra chips.

I really thought it'd be a cool bonus for those who ordered them blind to get to be among the first to see them.

Nobody has said a word to me other than @detroitdad about wanting to see them, so perhaps I overestimated that.

One thing I won't budge on, is that I wanted all sample sets sold to be completely blind. I don't like the thought of someone being able to see the design, then tell me that they no longer want a sample of the chips. It's probably silly, but I'm a weirdo and that's how I want to do it.

There is one person left to pay for theirs/acknowledge whether or not they are still interested. I'll give them one more day to respond to my PM and/or posts. Without a reply, the sample set will no longer be offered.

I'll post photos as soon as I hear back or around the same time tomorrow, whichever comes first.
