Hey, new to the Forum!

My name's Andrew. I'm from Iowa. We have a decent group of about 20 guys who play in a home game here, and my 21-year-old son and I hit the local casino tourneys occasionally, and charity tourneys whenever I can. My lifetime winnings are about $10 Billion, but about $833 if you don't include Zynga. :D

My number one hobby is guitar, and a little bass and keyboards, and I've been on gear forums for the better part of 5 years.

Anyway, glad to join the forum. Thanks for having me!

Welcome. Definitely a few guitar folks here. Prob none as serious as @behrguitar. It’s how he makes a living. ;). Hopefully you can attend a meetup at some point. There’s one in Chicago Minneapolis and Madison. None of these are too far from you. :).

That would be cool! Chicago and Madison are both 4 hours from SE Iowa, where I live (Burlington). Minneapolis is 6 or 6.5, I believe.

The chip meetups are more like poker themed parties, rather than crazy long intense poker sessions... there’s a certain vibe, where everyone’s main goal is to have fun (and yes, degen it up a bit). This years Chicago even is in July, and the Madison event was in April (likely May next year). If you want to see what these events are about, check out the live blog thread in my signature, or go to the meetups section...

I thought you were talking about me for a second. Also live in Iowa and passions are my guitars and soon to be chip collections. I've played at the Meadows a few times but no one seems to want to talk about local home games.

You're from Des Moines? I'd join you for a home game if you weren't three hours away. ;)

If you don't have friends or coworkers who are interested in playing, I imagine it would be hard to get into a home game.

I just drove 2.5 hours to play in a THUR. night with @Rhodeman77 It almost ended my poker hobby, but hey, it was fun lol.

I'd like to hear how it almost ended your poker life. Sounds fun!

I could probably make a special trip for a special occasion. At this point, I'm just happy to get a crew together for our $10 game once a month.

I was kidding lol. I went to his game to mix it up a little. His game plays a lot bigger than mine. I wanted to get out of my "comfort zone". I did exactly that. I ended up even on the night. I was in for 700, out for 700. I thought I played well. I took each buy in up a few hundred before getting it all in ahead and losing. My last buy in of 300 I took up to 850 before running out of time.

It was fun. Not often does my blood get pumping playing poker.

No way I could hang in that game. I could set aside $100-150 once in a while. If l can't afford to lose my buy-in, I wouldn't be able to play with a clear head. :)
