My first post came earlier today in the 8V Blowout Sale thread, but thought I’d say hello to everyone here!

I have long been a fan of quality poker chips, though up to this point, more of an admirer than an owner. Without knowing anything about Paulsons at the time, my college roommate bought a set of Paulson CDIs (2005). We had no money at the time, so I thought he was crazy to spend *gasp* almost $1 a chip. Now today I wish I would have had the foresight (and the money) to do the same!

I stumbled upon the website just a week ago and as many have described before me, have gone down the rabbit hole quickly. I was delighted to see there are so many people that share appreciation of chips.

I knew I belonged in the community when I woke up at 2:30 am last night panicked that I hadn’t ordered enough 8V chips from @ABC Gifts and Awards. Naturally I increased my order (and probably still don’t have enough! And bummed I missed out on the greens).

Excited to experience people’s collections, share ideas on customs, and peruse the classifieds.

Thanks for having me as a member!

Well hello fello cheesehead! WI has a number of great chippers. I’m guessing you’re in the Milwaukee area?

If you’re new to the site, but love the idea of playing with awesome chip sets and amazing people, you must attend a meetup. There are some folks who travel all over the country to attend multiple meetups, but there are enough meetups in the Midwest that you should be able to attend one or two nearby.

Arguably one of the premier meetups is the Windy City Blowout, hosted (typically in July) by fellow Mod @Jeff. This amazing meetup is the gold standard for meetups... only surpassed by @Jeff himself, who sets the bar high in the “excellent human being” category. If you search in the meetup threads, you’ll find a link to previous WCB event threads.

I host a slightly smaller meetup in Madison each May, the Mad Town Throwdown. We get three tables of action, and enjoy lots of great WI refereshments. You can follow the link in my signature if you want to see prior event blogs. Next year will be the 6th annual MTTD.

Aside from that, there are two newer nearby meetups to consider, @inca911 hosts a meetup in Minneapolis, which I attended this past September. Inca is another amazing human being, who puts on a great event. @detroitdad is hosting a meetup in the MI area (ysplanti), but I’ve never been to his game. If @detroitdad’s meetup is half as solid as he is as a person, then the meetup will be awesome.

Again, welcome to the forum, Monkey. If you’re ever in the Madison area, feel free to hit me up to see if I’m hosting. Actually, I’m hosting a tourney on December 1st, in Madison, with cash games after. If you’re interested, let me know. Check out my Fat Tire blog below if you want to check out the setup.
