Newbie: How do I valuate these chips? (1 Viewer)

I promise If I break it up I’ll give those of you who are interested first shot at them. :) still debating but have a good idea of what I want out of the total. Deciding if it is worth it to break and potentially be left with a lot of extras.
If you do a "navels" sale, you start high on your price per barrel or rack, then lower it every day or two. Everything is guaranteed to sell.

OK, I'm going to throw cold water on everyone because that's what I do.

No offense intended to the OP, but you are brand new to the site as of yesterday and your first post is to offer a premium, highly desired set of chips for sale. You are no doubt getting many offers via private message.

Maybe I'm jaded (hell, I'm a Noo Yawker), but I caution everyone here that the OP needs to establish his bona fides before I'd consider sending money to him. I am not saying this is a scam, but I am saying that my nipples are twitching. The OP could have gotten that photo from anywhere, and he seems to know a LOT about the chips for someone who says he doesn't.

@collin8579: If you post a photo of the entire set with a piece of paper in the picture that says "gopherblue hates TRKs," that will go a long way towards establishing your credibility. Everyone else: consider yourselves forewarned and forearmed.

Whoa, does this happen often? Maybe there's medication for that. That's one hell of a manifestation of "Spidey-sense"!

Have you seen the movie "Sixth Sense"? This is basically what it is about, it is a guy with twitchy nipples that solves crimes. Fascinating!

The $5s will bring down the value of the set, so you should sell those to me so I can help you out...LOL!!

In all seriousness, you can do one of two things to get the maximum value.

1. Auction off the $5s and the $100s by themselves (in 2 seperate auctions), and then sell off the others by the rack or as a set. This is what I would do.

2. Auction off the entire set.

#1 will get you a shit load for the $5s and $100s, $1.25 to $1.50 per chip for the $1s, and $2 to $3 for the .50s (maybe more).

#2, in my humble opinion, will require too large of an outlay to maximize the value.

I would venture to guess that you might have already received a ton of PMs for the $5s and $100s. Competition for them will be high in an auction...and I suspect I will be aggressively bidding (:

Good luck!!

I have no problem posting that lol

I get where this looks scammy but I’m on the level. I learn quick and read a lot once I set my mind to something. What is a trk?

Oh. Tricks?
nope... T.R. King... another yummy flavor of chip. Not sure if its been stated yet, but the brand of chips you have are Paulson. Another popular flavor is CPC/ASM/Burt Co. All basically the same, just under different ownership.

edit: just re-read OP. You knew you had Paulson. That's good.

I knew I had paulsons. I thought that was a style (clay and heavy),, but it is a brand. Got it. Or I’m assuming clay

Correct, a brand. Paulson is likely the most common brand of "clay" chip used in casinos. TRK and ASM/CPC/Burt Co are common among much older chips... like from the 1940's and '50s. CPC still produces for casinos but a much smaller market share than Paulson. The Paulson brand is now a product line of GPI (Gaming Partners International). The other brands under this umbrella are former standalone chip manufacturers (Bud Jones, Blue Chip (BCC), and others).

I would like to say to all of you who have helped to educate me on here that I really appreciate it. This community has been very open and welcoming. It makes me want to start collecting poker chips for myself lol
In that case keep them. Those are essentially one of the greatest casino sets available and I will fight anyone that disagrees  . What a way to start a collection.

Apologies to all those chippers who want to buy any of these chips.

While I wouldn't mind collecting as a hobby, life doesn't have that in store for me right now. Out of curiosity, what makes it a good set?

Paulson, Top Hot and Cane mold (THC), leaded, clay, inlay design, colors, history, textured inlays, spot progression, limited supply, appeal, and so on...

  • Real casino chips
  • Older style Paulson chips -- leaded clay formula for more weight and softer feel
  • Real shaped and textured inlays
  • Preferred THC (top hat & cane) mold
  • Great colors and spot patterns.
  • Great inlay design
  • Mint unplayed condition
Any of those individually would add to the desirability of the set. Short of the $1 chips being round-inlay RHC mold, the PCA secondaries have them all. It's a grail set for many people.

So after consideration I feel I'm going to follow the most common suggestion. Auction off the 5s and 100s, then set a reasonable price for the others based on prior sales coupled with suggestions here. I'm in no hurry for all of it. You all seem to be collecting for the passion and I respect that greatly. My last real questions when it comes to this is, when is a good time to set up those types of "auctions"? Should I start it on the weekend/ end it on the weekend? It I looked over some of the more recent ones and I feel I'm going to follow the same format as the last guy who sold PCA chips at auction. For those of you who have emailed me in interest I'll be sure to inform you when I set them up for sale :)
Oh, I almost forgot. What is the best way to ship them? I want them to be safe as possible while not burdening a buyer with heavy shipping costs. Thanks!

Also, there is a standard format for auctions. I don’t have easy access right now to provide a link, but I think it is pinned in the classifieds.

I'm learning as I go tonight so bare with me. They are mint PCA secondaries, 350 @ $.5, 300 @$1, 200 @$5, 100 @$25, and 50 @$100
Could I ask 1 question? Please don't take this the wrong way, but as a "Newbie"...how did you know that you owned "secondary" chips??? Most newbies wouldn't know the difference if they are asking for pricing recommendations. Just curious!!
