Official Error Chip Thread (1 Viewer)

@Ben8257, don't you also have that version of the CDI $100?
So if you read up on CDIs and their history online. There were sets that were made for family members and such including the ones with additional edge spots. It was not an error chip, just a personal very limited edition set.

This and the one that @bjjensen has are the only two I have seen outside of the single in that article. I will have to see if I can find it again, it has been a few years.

Funny, a few years ago I bought a bunch of fantasy chips from a seller here for an absurd $4 a chip (at the time was kind of high, but I love Fantasy chips) when I recieved them and this one was just thrown in woth a bunch of other 98 CDIs... I literally couldn't believe it "Jack POT!" Absolutely no idea what it is worth and not that I really care, it has and will be in my capper collection for years to come. Yup $4! Lol

So in the spirit of all these Elsinore samples and sales, Brie and I decided to pull our sample. Check out this $5

It is all under the textured surface. I guess the inlay ripped and lifted just before they pressed to chip. Should have been thrown away as a defect but that thing is a bike tire. Made it through years of use like that. Not some super cool error chip, more like something that should have went to the scrap pile. But funny to think how many people saw that chip over the years and went "eww, I don't want that one!" Lol

The other side is totally fine

Happy Error chip hunting Amigos!!

Not sure what happened here. It's only on one side and both chips are perfectly fine in every other respect.

I assume it was an issue when they were pressed.

This issue is actually somewhat common with the IG pri $25s. I had a decent amount in the 4 racks I have owned as well. I was under the inpression that it had something to do with how they were cleaned as part of covid measured in the short time the casino was open, but you might be right that it has to do with the pressing. Hard to tell. I was thinking too warm water solution, or too strong chemicals "moshing" specifically with the green clay. Hard to say. Reason I thought it could be a cleaning issue is because the purple edge spots also have some wierd discoloration, and I've seen similar discoloration when using Nail polish remover or alcohol to remove inlays when the solution interacts wirh the chip itself. (the pink spot on the pri $100 also have similar discoloration).

There's a thread on it here somewhere where we discussed it earlier.

Edit: found the thread. I posted about it and some discussion followed. Seems mostly focused on the discoloration though, so not sure how common the squashed hats are after all. But I belive u had about a barrel with a more or less issue with it in my 400+ of these.

Bellagio hotstamp $1s are allegedly an error chip of sorts. Their $1s are house mold and have an inlay but these RHCs somehow made it to the floor before the mistake was caught. The chips are now being pulled from circulation.

If only they made the mistake by making THC instead of RHC, they wouldn't have any problem pulling them :ninja:
