Chipping up after hitting the straight on the river. In for $20

I ended up in for $20 and out for $46 and change after donating about $10 to a TAG villain that runner runner-ed a boat.

I had AK UTG, raised pre and got two callers. Flop comes A Q 8 rainbow. I bet 1/2 pot, SB folded, BB flats me. A 10 came on the turn. I bet 1/2 pot again, BB flats again. River comes an ace for my trips. I bet 2/3 pot and BB re-raised me, which I should have taken as trouble, but I figured that if he had an ace as well, that at least I had the best kicker. He turned over Ace 10 and I lost a decent chunk of my stack as a result. I don't think I got my money in bad there, but was a bit sad to see it.

You bet half the pot on the turn and on the river, bet two-thirds of the pot and called a check-raise. Both streets you were behind. That is the definition of getting your money in bad. Whether it was reasonable is another discussion.

Either way, nice double-up on the night!

That was the one hand that position hurt me. If villain came out firing after the turn, it's a tough fold to make, but it's an easier fold than getting to the river and seeing three aces.

For that hand that I spewed chips, I also got 4 or 5 pots last night just on position alone. I ended up a net positive in that regard :)

Nice haul, how did the crew like the new table?
Very positive reactions all around! Got exclamations of "Wow!", "Beautiful!" and even "Who built this? I want one". I'll send them your way if they were serious :)

I'm assuming those were all at the start of the evening. After you took all their money they're probably more like "f#ck this table!" ;)

Not so much the table, but they were muttering under their breath about all of the draws I caught. I hit on all but one of my open-ended draws going into the river, really did run well last night.

I designed my Scrub Donkey set for heads-up tourneys with my son, then expanded it to 4 players for when my parents are in town. I finally got a chance to teach them how to play a NLHE tourney. It's excruciating, but it was nice to play something besides 5 Card Draw with them.

I'm trying to take it easy on them and play really passive, but I've been getting good cards and still stacking up the chips.

It's like Kuni's beginner class. They're so stupid!

My dad can't remember the rules or how much to bet, my son wants to play every hand even when he has crap cards, and my mom has the rules down and is slowly working out some strategy.

What were the starting stacks if you don't mind me asking? Looks like fun!!

We fi ally played our Donkeys for the first time the other night, my dumb ass took zero pics. but I did claim the victory!!

My kids don’t yet have the focus for poker, but I was able to break out the scrub donkey chips in a small game of blackjack (they have been asking for a week). Mom wasn’t impressed but I explained how it’s teaching them math. My middle son chose to hit on 17. I asked him if he was sure, he confidently said yes and then pulled a 4 to get 21.

The starting stacks are a bit silly, but they are the Scrub Donkey chips after all, and I wanted to have plenty of low-denom chips for my nitty family to start with.
20x $25
20x $100
5x $500
5x $1000
for $10k total

Definitely not silly, I like the idea.... for a couple reasons.
1) they are Learning something new, give them the comfort of feeling like they have plenty of chips to gamble with!!
2) it's bad enough trying to teach new players with out constantly have to explain change making and why this one is getting this much back but I didn't.

Sounds like a great plan but saddly it looks to be over soon!! Lol no mercy at the card table!! Lol

Yeah, we paused the game to do some other stuff and set the chips aside, but it won't last much longer. I made it a turbo with 8-minute levels because they don't have the interest in a long game yet. Plus with a short game it would be more luck-based and I'd have less of an advantage. I swear I'm trying to be nice! I'll put out a huge bet (3x BB is huge to them) to say "I have the nuts, stop putting money in" and they think I'm bluffing or bullying them. Or the pot is up to like $1200 and I bet $200 on the river and they say "$200??? I fold!"  :ROFLMAO:

Man if that little guy holding his hands up with chips on the table doesn't put a smile on your face... you really need to go check your self! Absolutely adorable family sir, and to see the boys having a great time... learning and playing with each other. Maybe mama needs to think about it for a minute... would you rather have them both hiding behind a tablet screen!! Love the topper, the chips, fantastic post sir!!

As long as that's not a Blue margarita sitting next to your youngest son there... hope that's some blue kool-aid! Lol
