2-7 single! A man after my own heart.
We play at 25¢/50¢ blinds with a $2 bring in. Pits are typically pretty small, particularly for our games. We had an $900+ pot in Scarney (I had quad 7's and villain had AA...third person in had a full house...so third person was in for $100ish, and Villain and Hero were all in for Villain's remaining $300ish), but the deuce-seven single draw is rarely more than $20.

Anytime we play it, we double the blinds and use a button ante (or regular ante) of a 1/4BB per player.

So, an 8-person 25¢/50¢ game would be a button ante of $2 (8x1/4x50¢x2) and opens of $1?

Button ante gives the button a lot of power to bluff, especially when no one else has much invested in the hand.

I also think the circus games are just excuses to play giant pots. That's fine and I enjoy it on occasion, but I don't think it's all that interesting. Running giant hands into each other frequently just isn't my thing. For big bet games, PLO and Big O are at about my limit of how close I want hand ranges to run compared to each other pre.

Not that there isn't some nuance or edge to be had in Scarney, Scrotum, or Double Board Omaha, but it's not like people are really bluffing that much. And you can just get totally hosed in Scarney unlike any other game I've seen. It's really that people just have no idea how strong a hand they really need when everyone is getting 5+ cards.

Scarney is under-rated in terms of strategy.

People fail to exclude possible straights based on discards, or re-calculate low holdings based on discards (when there are alot of low discards, for example). But I will concede that the ability to play all your cards means no one knows where they are truly at on the high end. I think it would play better if the low cards were flipped over (face down) just before exposing the next street. Make the players employ some stud memory.

At 8 person .25/.50, button ante would be $1. And the ante is dead. Bring in for $1. So button has no advantage, they just post the total ante.

A typical NL 2-7 structure is 1/2/4 Ante/SB/BB. So to keep it in line with pot sizes compared to 4 street games of .25/.50, I'd play:

.50/1, .25 per player ante (or 2 from the button), bring in for 2.

At 8 person .25/.50, button ante would be $1.

You said you double the blinds (to 50¢/$1) and then button posts 1/4 of the BB for each person. 25¢ x 8 people = $2

And the ante is dead. Bring in for $1. So button has no advantage, they just post the total ante.

The button still has position. And because the majority of the pot is his dead button ante, he has an advantage (besides position). He has extra fold equity, as no one else has much invested and (with no blinds), play might just fold to him.

Not trying to argue with you, trying to understand how to make the game better because it is a fun game, it just plays small, particularly with only two betting rounds.

It is a nice change of pace at a Circus night, however, because there is opportunity to get a bluff through. Most of the Circus games require nut peddling.

In the absence of a yum/slurp emoticon, I 'll give a :hearts: for the LongBranch Wild Turkey.
At any rate, we 'll have to drink together at some point in time, and the goddamn covid virus isn't helping international travel:mad:
