Lol. And our bars are still open and going strong. Yay freedommmm

Our bars were allowed to stay open until 6pm but couldn’t serve alcohol. Only 1% of cases have been found to have been transmitted in a hospitality environment. My sister owns a pub. Her pub scans your temperature and sits you in a booth surrounded by Perspex and you get table service. It’s regularly inspected by the health board. Now they have to keep it shut over the Christmas period and probably for the whole of January.
All this does is drive people to meeting up in their houses where there is no Covid protection screens, distancing, sanitiser, etc. I mean WTF??? Makes no sense.
By far the majority of transmission takes place in people’s homes, schools, hospitals, care homes and workplaces. Anyway I’ll start going into a politics rant so won’t say any more.

We shut down our regular home game through the holidays. Even "work from home" types are a higher risk if they visit family/friends over the holidays. I understand lockdowns, and I understand "social bubbles". I also understand that most people think their family doesn't count, but they do.

A month or two without poker > flu like symptoms. And flu like symptoms are on the low end of COVID's possible effects.

Agreed. Vaccines are right around the corner as well. I'm about a week out from getting mine and getting it out of the way via a doctor in the family.

I had the option of getting vaccinated Christmas Eve, but decided that even though Mrs Zombie and I weren't seeing anyone over the extended holiday weekend, I didn't want to risk the "feeling miserable" side-effect when I had the rare 5-days off.

It’s a $3000 fine here. We’re still playing but at least our provincial overlords aren’t hiring task forces to fine people or encouraging snitching. If the cops show up we’ll have our masks handy and respectfully break up our game.

That said, considering my kids are in school and riding the school bus with all of my friends kids, I’m not concerned about a 5 handed poker game. We’re also all in our late thirties and would be considered low risk.

Long story short... game’s on. Now how to convince my “there has to be a winner!!!” Friend that cash games are better?

My poker crew consists of good buddies with the majority living either on the same street, parallel street, next block, or two minute drive and I’ve barely seen any of them lately let alone share some cards and chips on the felt. Can’t wait to get together with the group again. Looking at these home games has me chomping at the bit.

I found out today that I won't be getting my COVID vaccine until February 4 even though I'm front lines taking care of COVID patients every day. The slow as molasses rollout of this thing is yet another national embarrassement. No live poker for me until March once it's been two weeks since I've had the second dose. Fuck me.
