@Mr_Y3RAC is finally back from studying abroad! Half a year went by way too slowly.
Naturally when we could make the reunion happen I wheeled everything out I aquired since we last saw each other in July last year.

After assessing and comparing weights, molds and colors we went for a little dealers choice heads up match.
3 chip limit game on the mixed leaded set - empress joliet $5 as the workhorse and aztar MO $100 as value Chip. Dollar value as cents though. ;)

After further exploring our favorites like drawmaha, 2-7 triple draw, scrotum and more, we decided to introduce high/low games for the first time.
We had a blast with Omaha 8, stud 8 and finally ended up playing super stud 8 for the final hour.
In for €5, out for €9. :)

Best night at our med student game yet! Quadrupled my buy-in, with most of it coming from a massive hand where I get it in with trip kings and end up sucking out on the river against a straight and a full house when the board pairs and I get the higher boat. Also had a straight flush over ace high flush hand that I wasn’t involved in but was brutal.

I was invited tonight to a barbarous game of friendly Savages, using dice chips.
Players' competence varied from basic to quite high.
They sent to Hell me and my fuckin cut card which I brought with me and which I naively suggested we should use for game security reasons.
1/1E, I was up for almost 250E most of the time, only to finally lose 40E to Goddamn PLO and Bourbon.

This is a just decent stack of mine, mid-game

And this is a NLHE hand I dealt (Full House vs Straight Flush)

I reluctantly played the monthly office tournament last night. Was reminded why I don’t play it.
  • 3 full tables and structured to finish in 2hrs.
  • Half stack rebuys unlimited for the first half of the tournament. It just becomes a shove fest in the middle of the tournament. On principal I refuse to rebuy for a half stack.
  • Undenominated chips
  • Non standard chip colors
  • Mix of absolute newbies and experienced players. Sat across from a total newbie guy who was a sloth and took 3min minimum for every decision including calling a blind or any preflop fold. Despite everyone trying to assist him it just furthered his concern we were trying to hustle him.
  • Paper cards
But there is free bbq catering plus wine and beer and getting the guilt off my shoulders for another year that I haven’t been attending and I poach good players.

This is the kind of tournament where my over pocket pair all-in gets called by 93 off by the newbie sloth who hits a runner runner. See ya next year gents.

You poor soul.

I use to do the same thing, playing in the FOE (Eagles club) shitty tournaments just to get in the juicy cash game after, and recruit to my home game. You had to play the tourney or you couldn't play in the cash game.

Please tell me there was a juicy cash game after. If not, at least you got fed.

Oh, I forgot. $50 buy-in. Even with 27 players the payout is 2nd place: $50, 3rd place: $20 bbq gift card, and 1st place is all of the cash less $50. So first place was $1900.

There wasn’t. But I am friends with the owner of the company who is the guy who runs the tournament and he is a super guy. Sometimes you gotta just take one for the team.

Ugh! 50's. :vomit: First sign of an inexperienced host. But with friends it can still be fun.

No cut card, no poker, period. I don't care how juicy a game appears to be. I also live in Los Angeles, home of the raked underground home game nonsense. There's enough shenanigans going on anyways in these games, if one tried to go without a cut card - I just can't even fathom the thought...

Jesus.... that might be the worst payout structure I've even seen in 20 years of poker.

If you're playing in a poker tournament for $50 with $1900 on top and your money back for 2nd and no cut card, I PROMISE you, you're being cheated. If you know this going in, and you're doing it for harmony at work - it's all good.
