You guys have been a great addition to our group. Glad you were able to have a good night with your son. He’s welcome back anytime.
In addition to chatting about the game, poker in general and some hands on the drive home, Ace was also asking about your chips... ;)

My son had some buddies over yesterday for a tourney, this was the final hand of the night:

My youngest has scored a straight flush, the oldest now has a royal, and 25 years later the old man is still sitting at quads....

My only Royal in 20+ years was when I dealt a practice hand to teach some people hold’em. We were betting pens and pencils. :ROFLMAO:

Pictured from left to right is Dean 80, Cecil 81, and Bob 78.

All three grew up together. Cecil is the only one who moved away, joining the army out of high school. He served his four and returned home where he started his own roofing business, employing Bob. Dean is 6'2 and was the regions star basketball player in high school.

Dean and Cecil did very well cleaning up at cards during the nineties and early two-thousands when the economy was running strong and the games played big. Many local players in their fifties and sixties credit Cecil for shaping their game. I admire Dean's card playing skills and credit him with being the better card-player of the two. Cecil may have lost his edge over time or perhaps he hasn't kept up with the competition. Nonetheless, his legend status remains.

Thought I would capture a couple of pictures this evening for posterity.

Wanting to free up commitments in order to travel, Hero gave up hosting Friday night's $1/$1 dealer's choice NLHE/PLO game the end of last month. Fearing the end, Cecil asked Hero if he could get him a seat at Tuesday's $1/$2 NLHE game an hour outside of town. Last Tuesday he scored $425.

Another player from Friday's game picked up the torch. Cecil won $200 Friday. Due to the pending rainstorm, the group of players decided they would meet again on Saturday. Cecil won another $400. Hero picked Cecil up yesterday evening to play in the out of town NLHE game. On the drive, Cecil, who lives in an assisted living home, asked Hero if he would order him a beef and broccoli combo meal with pork fried rice and an egg roll at the local Chinese restaurant.

We played from 6PM to 11:30PM. Cecil doubled his $250 buy-in, bringing his total winnings over the last eight days to $1275. On the ride home, Cecil confided to Hero that he craves to break free from his surroundings due to the fact that that the food they serve is terrible and many of those those he lives with have lost their wits. Cecil asked Hero "Can I go with you on your next poker trip to Salem, New Hampshire?" "I would like to play in the $2/$2/$5 PLO game and I wouldn't mind playing a little $2/$5 NLHE. There is better action in a $2/$5 game."

Hero couldn't help grinning.

Picture of Cecil after Hero dropped him off at the assisted living center with his take-out box from the Chinese restaurant.

After this evening, Hero is going to make sure to pick Cecil up for breakfast in town or to have him over for lunch/dinner once a week. We have set dates for a poker trip in November.

Only five players for tomorrow night, so the group decided we will try some circus cash games instead of our normal tournament (although we may still play a quick tournament). Gonna cut our teeth on some 5c / 10c games while we all learn and get used to the new games. Looking forward to get my ceramic hybrid NUTS in play for the first time. Got my custom epoxy NUTS DB ready, as well as two aluminum NUTS cut cards and a blaze Tiger Palace capper.

That's Nuts!!!!!

Called Cecil yesterday and invited him out for breakfast. For whatever odd reason, the local diner was closed this morning. Hero had to pivot.

Steak, eggs and home fries at home. Took Cecil to the DMV to renew his license. Cecil has better eyesight than Hero. He passed the exam without glasses. Learned that he lost his independence this past April when he caught a bacterial infection.
