Official PCF Whisk(e)y Thread (78 Viewers)

All the recent ECBP chatter lately reminded me that I haven't done a full '22 comparison flight yet....

A122
Full and rich, sweet and oaky nose. Tons of oak, dark barrel char and spice on the palate. Long and a very dry finish

B522
Lighter & brighter nose, but also more alcohol forward. Palate is similar, much more alcohol forward. Dries and gets a little bitter on the finish

C922
Big, sweet and full of flavor. Vanilla, red fruit, a hint of citrus and even some chocolate. Crazy big and flavor but still smooth

Easy pickn's this year for me:
C922 > A122 >>> B522

I’ve seen it from $26-$50 around here. Most places still mark it up over $100 though
Ok, your ‘most places’ is what I see here too..thx for posting!

I got a couple bottles at retail (like $33 maybe) from my supermarket a couple years ago, and have seen zero in the wild since then. I've been offered $75 for one, so $70 is not that out of line if that's the best you can do and want to have some.
Makes me feel a bit better in my quest to try!

if you buy it once it is fine. if that's your regular price that's too much.

however chase what you like, not what us degens talk about
As a Noob I’m still in the exploration phase. You all give the world of options an initial filter I value!!!

So I'm thinking of going with(hidden for Kloberer if he wants it to be a surprise):

Glenmorangie Signet

Islay without iodine but same distillery to really experience peat's influence:
The Classic Laddie - Unpeated
Port Charlotte 10 - Heavily Peated

Speyside Sherry - Sherry influence, one with light smoke:
Glenfiddich 15 Solera
Macallan 12

Highland - Lightly peated and not:
Deanston 12
Oban 14

A couple of my favorites and a couple of wild pours...

Same. Although I'm guessing if I ever had some of the 2020 Rye special release, or 2021 Coy Hill special release, those would take the top spot.
I had to go to Kentucky to get this bottle. Won't see anything special around here.

^Best JD product I've ever had. Not a fan usually.
I can’t stand regular Jack black but the SBBP is amazing! Easily a top 5 pour for me…especially if you get an exceptional barrel.

They’re getting harder to find locally for me, so I make sure I always grab one whenever I see them. The mini bottles are even less common here.

And so it begins…
Thank you @BruceWayne for the samples.

Listen, when a billionaire offers you whiskey samples you say yes people.

First pour: red dot sticker

*Withholding classic bourbon notes like: caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon unless they’re particularly pronounced.

Nose: Vegetable notes (green pepper, green beans). Cranberry sauce, turkey and black pepper gravy… wtf is this thanksgiving in a glass!?
Slight smokey smell.

Palate: Fairly viscus. Vegetal notes coming through, makes me think rye is a possibility. Seems kinda young and hot for the proof but this is my first pour of the evening. Aftertaste is slightly bitter smokey and drying like after a drag of a cigarette.

100 proof?

Age: 2-4 years?

My guess: some craft distillery bourbon whiskey. Solid for the age, will probably get better with time

Finally got around to trying this Sherry Finish Sagamore. I'm used to drinking mostly unfinished bourbon and rye, with an exception for Seagrass. This stuff hits *Different*, and it's good. The finish is sweet and dry, and it just lingerrrrrrrrrrrrs. It should be said that in a world where money and calories and drunkenness were no obstacles, I would probably drink gallons of champagne and nothing else. My favorites are so dry that they make your mouth pucker. The finish on the Sagamore Sherry Finish is nowhere near that level, of course, but it reminds of that, and it is just a lovely way to end my day. This one is a permanent stock in my cabinet on Shelf 2, along with his brother from another mother, the Sagamore Cask Strength rye. I would replace most bottles on this shelf if they ran out, though probably not the KC12, KC15, Bard Fusion #3, the Rendezvous Rye, and the New Riff Balboa.
