I didn’t mean to come across as smug. I just have a lot of whiskey. And I’m an idiot for it. Seriously, I have a purchasing problem. Not a drinking problem. I don’t drink in high quantity. But I do buy in quantity. Hahahahaha
Dude, I was with friends in 'one of the best whiskey bars in the world' looking over their book that listed their selection of scotch. One of my whiskey nerd friends and I were talking back and forth about certain distileries that they had wider selections of than others and a third friend asked what my favorite distillery was an I mentioned Bruichladdich. He asked how many bottles the bar had from that distillery that I'd never tried before or had at home and I said 'oh, just 1'. He said 'man, does that say something bad about this bar?' and before I could answer my whiskey nerd friend goes 'no, that just says something about Dave.'

Happy to send you my address. ;)

Yesterday's haul. First Old Ezra I've ever seen. The only reason I bought the Buffalo Trace is because it is the first one I've seen in 6-9 months. The poker group likes that kind of thing.
I buy Buffalo Trace whenever I see a bottle on the shelf. My pocketbook likes that kind of thing! Is there a clearly better bourbon under $24 a bottle?

At $25 or less, it’s hard to beat. I pay $30+tax here and that’s if I can find it…which I typically cannot.

The $25 bottle to get IMO is Early Times BIB. I like the profile better and the slightly higher proof over BT. The fact that ET BiB is a liter bottle just makes the deal that much better! But I’ll always buy a bottle of Trace when I find it if only to have as a gift for a few friends that go crazy over it.

WT101 is another $25 bottle that I’d grab over BT.

At the recommendation of folks here and my bartender son, I bought ET BiB early in my new whiskey journey - about 6 months ago. I just cannot get into it. Probably gone through 3 bottles of BT and that ET bottle is still 3/4ths full. I have it relegated to only making cocktails now.

Don't leave out Old Forester 100 at $28. Makes the best Old Fashioned.

Plastic cap? Or metal? Plastic is the old stuff which is very good. Metal is post Sazerac purchase and not as widely loved.

No idea, but I assumed we were talking about what is on the shelf right now and can be readily purchased. It doesn't do much good to recommend something that is no longer available or not easy to find. The subject of the conversation is good, but low cost bourbon.

Local ABC had Redwood Empire on sale and I went to grab some Lost Monarch- only to discover they were out. So I began stocking for my upcoming rye & poker night & grabbed a few others. That Sagamore Double Oak is suuuuuuper yummy.

I know it’s FRYEday, but I was curious about the cask strength. Boy that extra proof (117.2) makes a difference. I don’t think I’m a fan of high octane whiskey. A drop of water helped, but I find myself too distracted by the burn to enjoy the flavor. So maybe I’m ok with the local ABC offerings.

We’ll see- I grabbed 2 bottles- If I survive the upcoming layoffs next month, I might donate the second my office’s whiskey club for a celebration.
