In the interest of clarity, here's what I've said to
@Marhault in response to his PMs:
"They trademarked that rim pattern when they produced chips for the home market, and as long as they pay their maintenance fees, that trademark is good for 75 years.
The problem is that even though they're not using that pattern right now, they're legally obligated to defend it in order to preserve the trademark. So it all depends on whether they decide you're worth going after -- hard to predict. "
"[The buy] shouldn't necessarily be destroyed. You just have to realize that there's a chance, however small, that GPI might get upset and take some action. It all depends on how closely they're monitoring PCF.
They definitely didn't like the cigar and snifter mold, which had a cigar instead of the cane, which is why they've socked those molds away after acquiring them in a merger.
But they might just ignore these ceramics -- especially if you just make the cane into something else.
BTW, I'm not a lawyer -- just retired from the US Patent and Trademark Office. "
