Either the cane or the four suit symbols together like that in the "mold" area should be enough to start GPI's legal gears turning. With the two together, it's almost a certainty.

Remember, the legal standard is the "likelihood of confusion" when presented to the dumbest of the dumb...

Is this a real GB? I think it is, but there are some pretty clever folks on here.
This is 100% a real group buy. I'm trying to get in contact with the forum lawyers so that we don't go to jail. If we have to edit the images we will. I will update with whatever if any changes are made.

@pltrgyst @BGinGA
I appreciate both your input here. I'm not sure I see how a ceramic chip is a threat to GPI. I could understand if these were CPC mock ups, or a clay comparison, and could potentially push off sales for whatever explanation you want to use. I dont personally see a problem with the donkey and cane, however they can be changed to a donkey and scrub brush or what have you. I highly doubt any of us will be in jail. As for the mock design of the mold on the $1, there are a plethora of chips in this website that have copied inlay designs. And this is something you may know more about than I, but if people can mill their own chips to make exact replica inlays, I dont see what the problem is with a printed image? For all I care I'll contact GPI myself if it's that pressing of an issue. Again, dont see how they could ever give a crap about a .20 chip. No casino is going to use it, and we are not claiming them as "paulson" or "GPI" in any way. This was merely designed to be a goofy inexpensive memorable laugh for the community. Not a threat to another company. Aside from the fact that theres no way the manufacturer can replicate an exact color match to GPI, yes we can change the whole design and back away with our tails tucked. I'd rather take my chances, and call the company myself. I'm at work and have little time to research fine prints on GPIs copyright information, but will make a point to do so this evening. I understand you are trying to make a point here or perhaps "save us some grief" but it comes off more so of a public bashing over anything. I have great respects for both of you, and will note your concerns here. But I'm going to go with its probably something theyd over look. We arent producing and selling in mass, we arent a company attacking their sales or profits, and we aren't claiming they're name. Were just some people with some stupid chips.

In the interest of clarity, here's what I've said to @Marhault in response to his PMs:

"They trademarked that rim pattern when they produced chips for the home market, and as long as they pay their maintenance fees, that trademark is good for 75 years.

The problem is that even though they're not using that pattern right now, they're legally obligated to defend it in order to preserve the trademark. So it all depends on whether they decide you're worth going after -- hard to predict. "

"[The buy] shouldn't necessarily be destroyed. You just have to realize that there's a chance, however small, that GPI might get upset and take some action. It all depends on how closely they're monitoring PCF.

They definitely didn't like the cigar and snifter mold, which had a cigar instead of the cane, which is why they've socked those molds away after acquiring them in a merger.

But they might just ignore these ceramics -- especially if you just make the cane into something else.

BTW, I'm not a lawyer -- just retired from the US Patent and Trademark Office. "

Thank you. Noted.

Just wondering what the trademark language is around the “rim pattern”? Is it molded or printed that they trademarked? Or any combination of card suits (which I’m pretty sure are in the public domain)?

With the cigar and snifter, it sounds like they didn’t have any grounds for C&D, cause they didn’t stop it until they actually bought the company and removed the molds.

Holy shit...epic

Would it help if the suits were in a different order than the Paulson suits mold? Kind of like the BCC FOC and Paulson FOC. The BCC version is nearly identical, they just moved the Jack over.

We are in the process of trying to get in touch with the GPI legal department. We are in no way trying to violate patents or trademarks. This will be done in the right way even if we have to change the images. There is zero malicious intent here, zero profit attempt (if anything a pretty steep loss if you figure the time everyone has already put in and the money spent on the test run) just trying to do something cool and fun and silly.

Do you have any of these you would like to send my way for verification purposes... preferably $1 denomination? Lmao but fantastic point sir!!

I wasn't going to buy, but for that price... I'm grab a set or two for a laugh.

And I do have to say, @pltrgyst is dead on IMO. Just change that suits knockoff and I think it's fine, but GPI won't like that image even on a ceramic.

But either way, ill buy some.

And thanks @Marhault for doing this. Props.

I dig it! Although it would be nice to see what a printed "mold" would look like. Any examples out there?

The real work was all the other guys, I'm just the logistics lol.

I have updated the order sheet for those that have given specific totals. If there's anything messed up let me know (order sheet is the link in the second post) once you guys that don't have specific numbers yet hammer out what you want I'll throw you on the sheet.

I'm going to try my best to get some of these printed and get some quality images before we finalize the group buy, even if I have to extend it by a little to get them that way everyone knows what they will be getting and what it looks like on a chip.

If anyone wants to get this specific manufacturers chips in hand just shoot me a PM and I will do my best to work that out.

And of course this one, don’t know what permissions were needed for it.

Would you buy them if they were donkey and taquito?

When I thought about doing a printed mold there was a ton if feedback not to do it as it always ends up looking much worse in real life than it does on the mock-up. Perhaps give some thought to dropping the printed mold?

I don't think that anyone who cares about what the chip looks like would buy these any way...

Relax...I'm just kidding...y'all can spend your money on whatever you want!!
