Playing NLHE (6 max), $0.10/$0.25 blinds online last night, I had this interesting hand happen early on and would like a line check.

Hero has been at the table for about one orbit and is already well into a LAG image, having won the past 3 consecutive hands uncontested. Then this hand happens. No specific reads on anyone yet, except that no one has fought back yet in 3 hands of continuous aggression.

SB: $25
Hero (BB): $24.99

No one else ends up mattering. Hero is dealt :8c::7s:. It folds around to SB, who raises to $1. Hero flats.

The flop comes :8s::8d::7h:. Pot is $2.

SB bets $0.63. Hero … ?

I don't know this player pool at all. Are they scared of paired flops? If not, raise, if so, call and hope he fires the turn.

So far, they seem pretty tight, maybe even weak-tight. The 3 pots I've won, they gave up without a fight. One of them, I flatted a min-raise from the guy who is now SB and then took it from him on the flop. I stole his BB from UTG last hand.

That's all I really know about them, though. The player pool at this site (Black Chip Poker) is probably made up of slightly more serious players because it's a small site that you don't hear much about. Probably some bitcoin users in there, because you can deposit and withdraw in BTC, for whatever that's worth.

In that case call.

Flat. It's SB/BB, so your range is super wide. SB can put you on 57, 67, 9T, 9J, or Ax. Calling in the BB with Ax on a paired board in sb/bb is completely standard. So your best option is flat and see how they act on the turn, especially since you're in position.

4x SB V BB steal then 1/3 pot Cbet? Odd sizing.

Anyway. I think I'm always flatting flop, but his flop cbet was so small it's gonna make it tougher to get stacks in by river. Only reason I'd think about raising? It's hard for him to have much of anything when you have the board so covered.

I elect flat flop, raise any turn and hope he makes top pair or has something like A8/89.

Hero has already gotten lots of folds to his aggression - three hands in the first six. This is no time to be aggressive. Call, and hope the turn improves villain. You pull on the line now, and the fish is getting away.

Hero calls $0.63. Pot is $3.26.

Turn comes :8s::8d::7h::6d:. SB bets $1.03.

Hero … ?

Raise ~2.75. We can be raising in position with a ton of draws, 2p + draws, and if villain has any piece of that board they will be hard pressed to fold on a sb/bb encounter.

I like raising here. It's sad that you're not getting stacks unless this is a cooler.

I'd raise $4 though.

I like a slightly smaller raise, because betting something as high as 4 could get 69/79/9x to fold.

Or induce a shove.

Ok, I play in the worlds most aggro game. Probably not going to induce a shove with an over bet, but it might still get action based on your image. If he's paying attention and has part of that flop he may be willing to finally play back at the LAG.

Except 1 orbit really isn't long enough to establish a table image.

Good point. My table image description may be a bit of an oversell, but that's why I exactly stated the number of hands and so on. My point was that this would be the 4th hand in a row where the brand new guy has come out swinging. Anyone who's paying attention should already be a little suspicious of Hero's bets.

I stand behind bet $4. You'll never have a better lag image than you do in that moment.

Mwahahahaha! You're never seen me go nuts on a short-handed table of weak-nits.
I've never seen you at a table with anything less than thinking players trying to out level each other.

I believe you totally have that gear, but even if it is a bunch of weak nits, this seems like a decent spot to shovel in some chips.

Agreed.

Hero raises to $3.09. SB calls $3.09.

River comes :8s::8d::7h::6d::kd:. SB checks. Pot is $9.44. Stacks are $20.27 effective.

Hero … ?

5.23. I was gonna say $5, but every bet this hand seems to carry odd change.

I wish online poker modeled actual chips better.

In my experience, a weak-tight game tends to have a sort of cycle. You can almost sense when they're fed up with your maniac bullshit and ready to take a stand. They've seen you raise-raise-raise and they know you're up to shenanigans.

The turn call made this feel to me like either (a) the hand where someone finally stands up to me, or (b) the obvious flush draw, which came in.

Both of those are good for you. Hopefully you bet for value and got raised on the river, and didn't run into K8 sooted.

If this is me, I open fold because the villain is guaranteed to have pocket kings. I'm not even kidding, lately.

Given that it's you and, unlike me, God doesn't want to smite you after first using your entrails to teach Jesus and Beezelbub's grandchildren how to tie Gordian knots, I bet $6 on the river and go WHEEEEEEE.

I would consider moving all in on the river.
