Online $0.10/$0.25 Flopped Nut Boat (2 Viewers)

Good point. My table image description may be a bit of an oversell, but that's why I exactly stated the number of hands and so on. My point was that this would be the 4th hand in a row where the brand new guy has come out swinging. Anyone who's paying attention should already be a little suspicious of Hero's bets.

Honestly, this is why I said raise on the flop. If he has garbage so be it. If he has a little bit of something then a flop raise will increase your chances getting the stacks in the river. Just my thought process from a level 1 player :)

Agreed.

Hero raises to $3.09. SB calls $3.09.

River comes :8s::8d::7h::6d::kd:. SB checks. Pot is $9.44. Stacks are $20.27 effective.

Hero … ?

Bet ~$8. It makes it look like you missed a draw and you are bluffing the river. And if sb has any decent hand they're probably calling $8 just as much as they would $6.

being online poker....I would assume at this point the guy has the other 8. In all reality he may have also been pretty confident in his K as a kicker only to have it pair on the river. His check will undoubtedly turn into a shove to any bet. Pray he hit his straight or diamond flush but....

Watching with interest.

I've stopped playing online recently because of a few very bad beats on almost predictable circumstances. His bets don't say he has Kings, I'll bet he has something K8.

I like a nearly pot sized bet, just over $8 or so. Looks bluffy enough that he will call with any pair and if he has a straight or flush it will all get in anyways.

I would consider moving all in on the river.

This is what I ended up doing. This SO felt like one of those spots where Villain doesn't believe me at all and is prepared to snap off anything I throw at him.

I shoved, figuring the overbet would look like I was desperately hoping he'd fold. If he had 86, a bare 8, a flush, a straight, or perhaps a couple other hands, I thought he'd have to call, but alas, he didn't call.

Of course, afterward, it seemed like wasted value, but I'm still not sure it was a bad play. My reasoning is that if Villain would pay off a PSB or nearly so, he'd have enough strength to summon a call for just over twice a PSB, especially if the bet were to look like a steal.

The one thing I think I missed was that a small bet like $4 or $5 (a) would get paid off much wider and (b) might entice a desperation check-raise shove. However, it seems like (b) would be a really narrow segment of his range, since almost no draws missed, so the shove-bluff was a really remote possibility. But he might do it with a weak pocket pair or something too, hoping to get me off of any number of hands (a king, a bare 8, a bigger pocket pair).

If the pot was $9 and you had like, $12-13 behind I wouldn't mind an overbet shove. 2.2 over pot just seems too big for people to want to pick off with 6x/7x.

With the K on the river, I'd rather bet $5-6 and hopefully get paid off due to sheer curiosity. K is a card that may have pushed your hand above his, as you could have been against a simple pair. He raised pre-flop with something, and you have been calling to let him improve his hand so I wouldn't go all-in and drive him out with a hand he could have such as weak K or a pair.
