Online Home Poker (3 Viewers)

We use Poker Stars Home game. It now has audio/video and can be used for Cash games or tournament play.
We play with free money, but keep an excel spreadsheet for our buy ins, rebuys. We set our time of start and finish, then once around the table. The final deal, everyone sitouts once the hole cards are dealt so the game will stop dealing. We have one person (banker) that keeps track of the starting stacks, the rebuys, and the finish stacks of each session.
The spreadsheet shows all the above data, thus calculating the rake, and adjusts the winnings or loses as such based on 100% of $$ invested.
We pay out at the end of each month using e-transfer or paypal. All the money owed is sent to the banker, and he distributes to the ones owed money.
It works well for our table of 9 players.

This thread as been a huge help to me getting my Poker Mavens server setup. Thanks to all who have contributed. I've successfully, created the AWS instance with an elastic IP, registered the domain and updated it to point to the server's IP. I have Poker Mavens up and running on my domain. I've now hit a brick wall trying to get the SSL working. I've moved the two OpenSSL files to the Poker Mavens install directory. I purchased a cert from Comodo and have validated my ownership of the domain. I tried to follow a previous discussion on the thread, but the zip file I got from Comodo doesn't seem to have the files I need. I am not sure what my SSL cert file, and SSL root file are. I think I have the right SSL key file, it was the file created using the utility to create the .csr for Comodo correct?

I couldn't figure out a way to delete this post, but I got it working. I was looking for a .pem file, but the ca bundle file worked fine in its place. Only thing I'm questioning now is www. will not work, but https works fine. I am guessing this is because I didn't include the www. when do the Comodo csr portion. Does that seem problematic at all?

Most certificates should allow wildcards. That means if you have a certificate for mydomain.com, it should also allow poker.mydomain.com, freecookies.mydomain.com, yourmother.mydomain.com etc. but you would have to apply for it. I don't know how to do that as I use https://letsencrypt.org/ for free and automatically update the certs every 3 months. For Pmavens I have to do it manually as I have a webserver in my home network which "takes up" my http and https spots on the single IP I got.

I was able to get www. working. I am using Google Domains and had to also add the hostname with www. there. Now it's time to focus on the customization, cards, chips, table, etc!

Is there a way on PM v6 to customize the server login? Or are you always stuck with this boring page?

Fooling around with logos and backgrounds, WOW. Poker Mavens is fantastic, looking forward to running it for the first time next Wednesday. Background is too busy, going to lower opacity for sure but the Pro version is so customizable.

I’ve used the blur image feature in my photo editing software to soften the background to not make it the main feature and focus of players eyes.

Love Poker Mavens so far, very impressed with how customizable it is. Clearly made by someone who plays, great program.

One problem I've run into is the values column disappearing: usually, it has a "Property" column next to a "Values" column that gives whatever the answer is, but my Values column disappeared. I've expanded the window the whole way and can't see any text, I've right clicked/double clicked where the column should be trying to reset it. I see flashes of the column title and the values but only when moving the window, it'll never stay.

Have any admins seen this problem? Hope I explained myself well enough. I can click the property and see/change the value so its not prohibitive but its very annoying.

Event log is the same way, I no longer see what the events are, that column is stretched out or gone or something.

Hi everyone! Brand new member, happy to join PCF!

I've shifted through the many pages of this thread and got some great info (thanks!). I'm wondering if there are any new recommendations for online home game clients. I primarily play with 20 and 30 year olds that overwhelmingly prefer playing on PokerNow. And then my older pals overwhelmingly prefer Poker Mavens. There are many differences between the two, though the largest being PokerNow doesn't allow you to create a club and give players a balance to use a period of time, its a single session only client, whereas Mavens can keep a running balance but is terrible on mobile and has dated graphics. I'm basically looking for something that is the best of both worlds.

Like PokerNow...
- Must be super mobile-friendly
- Ideally have bomb pot and 72 options
- Contemporary graphics

Like Poker Mavens...
- Create a private club
- Give players weekly balances

And...
- It should be great on both mobile and desktop, so sites like PokerBros that is mobile-only don't work for me.
- Settling on venmo is fine so play money sites work. But I don't want to create a club on one of the major sites that spam you with all these casino banners and such.

Thanks so much for any thoughts you may have!!

Unfortunately I don't think such a solution exists yet. One workaround you could use is to keep the weekly balances manually. PokerNow (as you know) gives you a nice Ledger after each sessions detailing who is in for and out for what. You could create a Google Sheet with everyone's running balance and either make it public (if your players are comfortable) or send updates to your players on their balance after every session.

We've loved Poker Mavens and customized the chips/cards/table/avatars. Whats awful about mobile client? Not saying not sure what's the hold up.

I host on a desktop and play on a tablet so maybe the bigger screen makes it easier.

I will also say, in my opinion, it's not like PokerNow has some brilliant mobile experience. I hate playing there on my iPad and it's near-unusable for me on iPhone.

If your looking for absolute mobile compatibility, my friends and I used to play on ClubGG, don’t think it’s as customizable as some of the other options, but it has bomb-pot options among some others.

Can you create a private club on ClubGG with a running ledger/balance and no rake?

You can create a private club. There is a running balance, you basically give “chips” out as admin. These “chips” have a value assigned to them, example 1chip=$1. I would recommend you just play around with it. It’s an app you can download, it’s completely free but there are versions where you get perks for $10/month and $50/month. They also hold site-wide free roll tournaments where you can win gift cards or seats to bigger tournaments that are actually worth $$

Do they have a desktop application too? This may be the best-of-both-worlds solution.

So I admit I've not tried things like ClubGG because I was never sure about how they operate and the legality thereof. Is it ostensibly a play-money app which is administered by a club head who dispenses chips and can choose to only do so in exchange for for actual money, or is ClubGG facilitating the transactions and taking their cut?

And does it play more like live poker or is it full of the same sweaty try hards as the normal online poker sites?

GGPoker is a real-money poker app that is not legal/regulated in the United States and I have no experience with the player pool there. ClubGG is the play-money version, and it will play differently depending on what club you are in and who the players are.

yes I believe so

It is strictly a play-money site. GG takes no cut, the only way they make money is the monthly subscription and maybe advertisements. Club head decides chip value etc…

In terms of “playing” like live poker, well it depends. The players are going to be comprised of people that you directly know or have advertised your club to.

I would say that this is probably the “softest” place to play online poker, you just have to find a already established club, preferably with no rake. A lot of the players are casual compared to legit sites, because there is always a chance you don’t get paid if you don’t directly know the host.

Yeah for a private game/league with friends ClubGG is fine, but be very alert when playing on other clubs you've been "recommended". ClubGG are infested with bots and admins running off with your BR. Min VPIP at 40%, high rake, high rakeback, etc. It's the wild west.

Me and my home club guys have recently "discovered" this online/zelle thing. We have been using POKERSTARS, and so far have experienced no problems that we know of. If you are interested in joining our club, we are at "Deadhead Dave & Sons"

We did some PokerStars but I didn't like parts of it. Time clock, couldn't customize as much as I'd like, didn't keep track of our money. Upgraded to PokerMavens and very happy so far.
