That was the next thing I was going to suggest - firewall issue - were you already using a Firewall policy with Mavens 6.x?

From the Poker Mavens Service Manager, use the "Windows Firewall" button at the bottom and check to see if a Firewall rule is running. If not, you should enable one.

"No firewall rule found for Poker Mavens 7"

Kent is helping.

Which ports are you using (HTTP and WS)? If you are using 80 for the HTTP port, it will not start if you have a web server running on the same system. Click the "Data Folder" button in the PM Service Manager.

Go into the "Logs" subfolder. Is there an Error Log with today's date?

If so, open it and see what it says.

HTTP port: 80

Error log: 2022-04-02 15:13:53|Error starting game server: Could not bind socket. Address and port are already in use.

Kent:

Yup, what I suspected. Do you still have version 6 running, and if so is it using port 80? Otherwise you likely have IIS web server running. If you're not using the web server then you can disable it in the Windows setup. Otherwise you'll need to use a different HTTP port in v7.

Ver. 6 is not running, but it is set to 80.

I don't understand the rest of his question.

I am having a difficult time with mine ! I have it installed but when I go to my site, I get "the site cannot be reached" I also use AWS so I am not sure what needs to be done. version 6 works when i turn it on but version 7 does not. I Turn 6 off then try to run 7 and cannot connect. Any suggestions ? it would be greatly appreciated

You might need to add the PM7 executable to the list of allowed files, just like you did for PM6.
bear, any chance you can give me a little help ? I cannot get 7 working. I read this thread and I opened the data folder from the PM7 service manager. I am getting "Error starting game server: Could not load SSL Library. I have everything in the correct place so i am not sure why I get this error ?

OK, this means you have NOT copied the SSL Library files (there are two of them) to the correct location.

**Side Note** - The "Gold" edition of PM requires OpenSSL 64-bit, while the normal editions (like Pro) must use the 32-bit edition.

This is where you need to copy the files: C:\Program Files (x86)\Briggs Softworks\Poker Mavens 7
These are the files you need to copy: libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll

Just like this:

You can find OpenSSL here:
Lite/Pro Versions: 32-bit DLL
Gold Version: 64-bit DLL

Hey everyone; I've setup PM7 and helped a couple of people through their setup. I wanted to outline some "Gotcha's":
  • Please remember to shut down PM6 as well as the "Redirect.exe" if you have it running. PM6 and PM7 can exist side-by-side, but cannot share the same ports (80/443 normally for http/https). Many people forget that they have installed Redirect.exe to return from http to https automatically and this will prevent PM7 from starting.

  • Some of the helper ports have changed. WebSocket ports are no longer on 8087 and 8088; they are now on 8080 (http) and 8443 (https). You'll need to ensure that you have these ports opened in both AWS and your Windows Firewall:

  • There are now 2 places you need to "Start" PM7. The first place is in the PM Management console:

    Screen Shot 2022-04-03 at 4.15.35 PM.png

However, if you only did this and you tried to hit your site, you would see this nasty error message: 503 Service Unavailable. This is because you have only started the admin console, NOT your actual site. You have to login to the admin console and click "Start" from there to launch your site:

  • I hope Kent fixes this one, but it's scary for many users. If you are running SSL, you have bought a certificate for your site. Let's say your site is https://www.bearmetalpoker.com. This means that your certificate will ONLY work with your site. It won't work with any other site and it won't work with direct IP addresses (like 127.0.0.1). Unfortunately, when you click "Launch Admin Console", the software doesn't know what your site's domain is, and it launches as http://127.0.0.1/admin and this will have Chrome display a nasty message to you about being unsafe and not to proceed. You can fix this by instead using your full domain with the /admin at the end, like: https://www.bearmetalpoker.com/admin.

I just changed wss port to 8087 and it seems to be working ! is that correct ?
See my post above with all of the different gotchas. This version of poker mavens switches the web socket port to 8080 or 8443. So, you need to adjust your firewalls to let that port through (on both windows and AWS).

However, one way around it is to do what you did which is to change the port that poker mavens 7 uses back to the one that the old version used, which was 8087 or 8088.

Anyone on PM7 have any issues tonight? Our server crashed about 30 min ago. Got it back up but it was not easy.

Has that ever happened to you before? There were players on mine last night, but they didn't report any problems.

I had noticed a lot of errors in my logs that had never been there with PM6. I asked Kent about it, but he didn't seem to think it was an issue.:

WSServerExecute error: Access violation at address 0070C28F in module 'PMService.exe'. Read of address 00000008

No crash has ever happened. The crash last night occurred at 04:54 UTC. After the crash recovery, a bunch of ring games I had renamed and/or deleted reappeared in the ring game list and were placed online. Weird. I deleted them all again.

Also, we had table of Dealers Choice running. When a became a player's turn to choose a game, about half the players could see the list of choices but the others only had a blank box that did not populate with the games.

I emailed Kent last night and again morning. Nothing so far.

I've had similar errors since moving to 7, but never a crash.

Kent says it's probably from a probe on port 8443 (the WebSocket port). Since the prior port we used was 8088 and is not standard, it's possible he's right that using the newer 8443 is allowing external probing. The error suggests some bad pointer in code (uninitialized memory usually), so if that port is expecting a good request, a bad request (like a telnet to it) could cause that.

Anyway, it sounds like @DoubleEagle had a crash that is not related to this. Since the players were using a new part of the app, it's probably just that, and normal games/tournaments are safe for now. Please let us know what Kent says about your crash...

Expected the upgrade to 7 to be easy but ran into the same trouble (port change) as others in this thread. Big thanks to @BearMetal for writing up a clear explanation of the "gotchas". I'm up and running and exited for some true dealers choice tonight :D

I can't take the chips in Poker Mavens anymore, so I'm trying to make my own. Tried these last night and I definitely need to iterate on this... But they're getting there...

Needs some shadows and have to swap out some chips with better ones...

That's awesome! I just upgraded to 7 the other day. Could pass up the 50% discount.

Thanks! Yes, I couldn't pass up that discount either. Rabbit hunting is totally worth it by itself. Best new feature!

In case you never saw it, I made some custom cards for PM if anyone wanted to use them.

... I've also got hi res avatars if people are sick of the stock ones...
