I poked my head in here for a moment to see what was going on and the last page and half was like:

Pardon me while I

lol smh

Some people run awesome GBs (like you), others can rattle off perfect tournament breakdowns for any number of tables. Me? I help out PCF members who wanted to continue playing online when the world shut down. Just my way of being a part of the community.

Oh, and I make some pretty cool 3D poker prints :D

@BearMetal is DA MAN! No way I would have got my site up and running last year without him.
I would have given up if he hadn't helped me out !!! ...

Because @DoubleEagle asked, here's how to do reserved instances on AWS:
  • Purchase the reserved instance. You do this via the EC2 section of AWS by navigating to "Reserved Instances:

  • When you go to find your new reserved plan, you MUSTmake sure that you match the following:
    • Platform
    • Instance Type
    • Region (as long as you can see your instance under "Instances" you are in the correct region)

  • Once purchased, your plan will show up in the list of plans:

  • You're almost done. You now need to switch your EC2 instance from your free t2.nano to whatever you've chosen (in my case, t3.micro). You first must stop your instance. Once stopped, you change its instance type, then just start it back up:

That's it! According to Amazon's documentation, your restarted instance will start using your reserved plan automatically as long as the instance type and operating system matches.
Wow! Can't believe it has been almost a year since I set up my AWS. Now it's time to renew and purchase my next year's reserve instance.

In your example you bought t3.micro but I've been using t2.micro just fine, so I assume that is what I renew, correct? Looks like it's only $99.

I have almost three weeks until my year is up. Will I get a notice from AWS to renew? Or will everything just stop working if I had forgotten my anniversary date? I'm just surprised I haven't already heard from them.

Do I just set it up now and when the free year ends it will switch over? Or wait until closer to my year end and do the switching over process from above?

Or do I even need to do that switch sinch I'm not changing my instance type? If I'm staying on t2.micro.

Thanks!

You can absolutely stay with a t2.micro if it's been serving you well. I moved to a t3.micro for several reasons:
  • It doubles the number of CPUs and has more bandwidth for its network.
  • More importantly, it doubles the number of CPU credits that it earns. CPU credits essentially define how the machine can burst. More credits you earn, it means that when your machine needs more CPU power, it will not be throttled.
For the price difference between the two, I decided that since I was reserving a year at a time, I just wanted the one that was going to give me the better experience.

But with that said, I don't really know how Amazon would treat a free tier as well as a reserved instance. I would hope and expect that they would only start eating into your reserved instance once you're free tier was used up. So, it should be okay to purchase the one year now and it will just start using it when you're free tier is up.

Since I changed instance types, I waited until my free tier was just about up. Then I made the purchase, switched my machine over to a t3.micro, and it just started using my reserved instance automatically.

If you do nothing, they will start charging your credit card that you have on file at the on demand rate (not the reserved rate) for your t2.micro. And you do definitely do not want that.

... But there's rabbit hunting!!!
lol I saw that, pretty funny.

My initial AWS 1 year subscription just ran out, so I took my server down and tapped out (haven't played online since late last spring).

I hear ya. My club grew organically and now it hosts players from 5 different states. There were cards flying every single night from 7/7/2021 to 02/18/2022 ... And the current streak is from 02/19/2022 and holding strong. Freaking degenerates...

If you ever need assistance in the future getting it back up, just let me know.

Anyone done the update yet? Just wondering if the whole application -> service thing is going to break something.

I'm going to do it this weekend and report back... My degenerates couldn't let their precious go offline tonight...

But in case you were nervous, you can backup your PM6 directory first.

My game is off tonight and back on tomorrow so was thinking of giving it a go.

Holy shit...that's a big one!
I reached out to Ken to see if the graphics had changed and they have... But he has kept the same ratio so that existing graphics will continue to work. And then you can update them at your leisure..

But more importantly it seems like the structure of all of the tournament/history/log files has not been affected, which is fantastic for anyone who runs software against them like I do.

As far as features go, there are a whole bunch of them. I might not exactly like the way that they were implemented but they're there and I plan to try to use them.

I have yet to install it, but I plan to do it tonight. From what I understand, the new software installs to a completely new directory. In fact you can run the old version and the new version simultaneously (as long as they use different ports, duh).

It should install like any other windows program. You download it, run the executable, and it becomes installed. However, unlike the old version which was more of an application that you needed to start on your own, the new software is a Windows service which means that it automatically starts up when the computer does. However, I would assume that there is still an icon that you can click to manage your tables and users, etc.

Since both pieces of software can exist side by side, that means that they do not share the same installation location. And by extension, they do not share the same data. So, in order to get your existing users and tables migrated into the new software, there is a migration utility: http://www.briggsoft.com/docs/pmavens/Utilities.htm#import (direct link)

So, I think the order of operations will be like this:
  • Download and install version 7 from his website. You would do this just like you would download and install any other piece of software.
  • If you are using SSL, then you need to ensure that you copy the two OpenSSL files from your old installation into your new one. You can search this thread to find links to this process.
  • Then, you download and install the migration utility and run it. This will essentially copy all of your old tables and users and settings into the new software.
If anyone has already performed these actions, and there is anything to add they can post here. Otherwise if I find a hiccup in the process tonight, I can also post here.

I was a little nervous but got it done in 5 minutes with no issues.

The only other thing that wasn't taken care of by the migration tool is it changed my http port back to default, so I had to change it to the one I've been using.

Installed and the "Launch Admin Console" will not run.

Can’t reach this page

•Make sure the web address http://127.0.0.1 is correct
•Search for this site on Bing
•Refresh the page

Grrrr.

@DoubleEagle

In the new Service Manager window, what is the HTTP port listed as? That address you show assumes port 80, so we should check.

Also, from that same Service Manager window, did you use the Start Service button? If the service is running, then that button will be disabled.

Port is set to 80
Clicked "Start Service." Not running before.
Click on "Launch Admin Console" and I get the error.

I haven't installed this yet so I don't know what the new admin console is like, but I'm pretty sure that @DoubleEagle has SSL enabled. So shouldn't it be HTTPS and port 443?
