Which chips do you prefer?

  • I'm primarily interested in "real" casino chips, and I have my own definition of "real chips"!

  • I don't care where the chips are from, as long as they look good!

  • I'm primarily interested in fantasy chips! Don't make fun of me please!

There are many different flavors of chips that all of us collect. @ovo recently mentioned something about a mixed set that had real casino chips in it as well as fantasy chips in it, and I know many others would be completely tilted to own such a set. To some, it is imperative that their chips have their origins rooted in a "real" casino in order for them to want or prefer those chips. There are also of course fantasy chips like the Le Coves, WTHCs, and the Pharaohs. There's even a spectrum of chips that lie somewhere in between like the PNYs, Golden Eagles, and the Wynn charity event chips. Some of us, like myself, don't care much where the chips are from for the most part, so long as they look and feel good. However, I can certainly appreciate the views of those on the other side of the fence. Especially when it comes to those old school vintage (redundant you say? psshhh) sets like Nevada Lodge, Mapes, Tropicana, or Dunes. There is something a little extra special about those chips in my view, even though most were before my time.

I'm curious what the distribution of our loyalties looks like across the community.

This is not a thread about which category each set belongs in. I don't care where on the spectrum you place the Wynn chips or the boat chips in (at least not now). Please don't beat dead horses. @Tommy has .gif for that!

I like leaded chips best, but unleaded are fine too.

No real fantasy/casino preference here (if the chips are nice) but casino sets do have an added coolness factor to them.

So far, it looks like it's about a 60/40 split in favor of the "meh, who cares" crowd, with only one misclick...

I agree with this completely, except the bit about fantasy chips. I think those are poop.

Gotta catch them all
This

The Pharaohs Club/ Classic is what got me started down this rabbit hole some 10 or so years ago, they will always have a spot on the roster. However being from a real casino does add a special history. I like to own and touch beautiful chips regardless of how or why they came into existence.

Definitely prefer old-school leaded chips, and generally prefer casino chips to non-casino chips -- mostly because they are more often leaded with textured (and sometimes shaped) inlays.

Some fantasy chips are absolutely stellar; there is a wide enough range in that category for me to not classify them as all the same in terms of desirability.

Derby Gran and Century Paulson lines are the shit. Absolutely adore the MG v1's as well. Fantasy or not, don't care. They awesome.
Plus these.... just wish i could find more:

@Kyle I think you may have misread the poll. Did you see option #3? ;)
Ha very true. I have 3 sets. All Fantasy and love them all. I am just not interested in owning many more sets but definitely appreciate all sets.

Maybe that changes but I like rotating what I have now. (Still need 2 racks of the Le Cove $25's to get them into regular play for my monthly tournaments. Thanks again for helping me out with those.

I do prefer Paulson though as they feel heavy and sound good when splashing the pot.

I played with the vintage Tropicana chips @David O had when attending the Alamo. I didn't think they were anything special in the pictures but man I loved those chips in person. Felt awesome while playing and were 1st class all the way. Great colors.

Save yourself (and your wallet) and never touch a barrel of mint Reno TRK chips. Seriously.
Yeah totally. I figure I'm already deep with what I have. This hobby can be stressful when you piece together a full set that cost a lot of money. I'm pretty close where I need to be now and ready to just enjoy and play with what I have.

I also have the luxury to play with other Grail sets with the Colorado crew on a regular basis.

@pokerplayingpisces @justsomedude @nitzilla and hopefully sooner then later play @ruskba and @One Eyed Dollar place and their chips soon enough.
