PCF at the Movies (6 Viewers)

Butler and I should have our own movie critic show. Here's how pretty much every review would go down

Gnu: The plot doesn't make sense, the characters were dressed in clothing that clearly didn't arrive until the late 1700's when this film is set in the 1600's and the representation of the color blue was 2.36 shades too light for the viewer to accurately depict in a dimly lit theater. Plus the positioning of the stars in the night sky was clearly off by at least six lunar cycles which is just unacceptable in a film of this caliber, I'd expect greater attention to detail in a SyFy made for tv movie.

Butler: ERMAHGERD SPLOSIONS!!!!!

you just seem intent on evaluating every movie or television show as if it has been presented as a documentary. don't watch the walking dead, the avengers, mad max, etc. if you're not willing to meet a piece of work on its own terms. they're genre not drama.

Nah, that's just a holdover from my extreme critique of the walking dead. For the Avengers I suspend plenty of disbelief, I just don't get why a villain would disable multiple heroes, making them vulnerable and easily dispatched, and then not remove them from the playing field.

I had to shut my brain off recently to enjoy the Hardhome battle in Game of Thrones. I don't get how arrows to the head and swords to the gut take out the rank n' file undead (plus being stomped by a giant) but plummeting from a cliff doesn't similarly take them out given the massive impact such a fall would result in. Or why the white walker, who got the jump on Jon Snow, doesn't just stab him through the back (since he dispatched the Thenn mighty quickly) and instead just tosses him aside.

because they are the avengers and the movie would be over in about 20 minutes. it's a comic book not a police procedural.

Sadly I'd watch this, but it's very unrealistic. You're the only person we know that says "ERMAHGERD".

i knew that the shire had been built IRL for the LOTR movies, but i never thought to ask what had happened to the cool stuff after the filming. evidently, it's a sheep farm again (as it had been prior). cool.

Watched Kingsmen and Get Hard last night.

I thought Kingsmen was good. Wasn't expecting so much action. Some funny parts also. Will watch again.

Get Hard was a disappointment. I usually love Will Farrels movies but this hardly made me laugh at all. Some funny scenes but mostly just a waste of film.

I went into Kingsmen with low expectations. I ended up really enjoying it. Enjoy it for what it is. An over the top, fun, action flick.

Were hitting JW tomorrow morning. Same, low expectations, but going to enjoy it nonetheless.

So how was JW? I heard it blows.

Just finished Focus. Damn I really enjoyed it all the way through. Never know who is playing on who. Love that type of flick

pretty much my review..............We re-watched JP last night just to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

Pratt was awesome. He actually sold it well that the raptors and him shared a mutual respect for each other. I went into thinking this was going to be what was going to ruin the movie for me. It didn't I actually liked his scenes with the Raptors.

The kids in this one......."meh"..... the boy/girl in JP were much better.

It was all CGI (or like 99% of it). I'm a fan of using real props and shit. Feels more real to me I guess.

Out of 5 stars I would have given it 2.5. However there is a scene with about 10 minutes left in the movie that ruined the entire damn flick for me. I won't post it. Not good with the spoiler thing. If you want to know what it is PM and I'll tell you. It was fucking horrible.

The movie on a whole is predictable. 15 minutes in you already know how the Indominous Rex is going to die.

We also watched "Time Lapse" last night http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2669336/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Very short movie. Only a few actors in it. Kind of a different twist on the standard time travel movie. Acting is "good", not great. As with most Time Travel movies there are a few plot holes. Over all, if sci fi and time travel are your thing, I'd recommend this.

I liked JW a lot. There were a lot of visual nods to other films, without spelling everything out. When you see it, you get it or you don't. If you don't you won't miss anything, if you do you'll love it :).

A lot of the stuff in the trailers kinda put me off (like the raptors, and genetically engineering a whole new dinosaur as if regular dinosaurs wouldn't be enough), but it all made sense when you watched the movie, and you'll get hit over the head with a few (actually rather obvious) explanations that should have dispelled those criticisms before you even entered the theater.

I also loved how they maneuvered around the usual cliches.

As for knowing how the Indominus Rex will be killed... I also knew how the Titanic was going to sink, still enjoyed the journey to that moment though :).

My son would mostly agree with you. I just didn't care for it. I personally thought there were way to many "nods" to the other films. I didn't hate it by any means. I didn't regret going to the theater and seeing it. I really liked Pratt's performance.

Part of "my" problem is that JP is one of my favorite films. I love it. I loved the book, ect.... The performances from Sam Neil, Laura Dern, the kids, and hell, even Goldblum were fantastic. Outside of Pratt, JW didn't deliver on character performances.

I would come down in the middle of both of you. I thought it was fine. That's about it. It didn't really attempt to elevate itself the way the original film did, but that would be a heavy lift without the support of a narrative of the quality Crichton could deliver.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from seeing it. If you want a fun 2 hours it delivers, but it won't really make you think in any meaningful way and the performances are truly as middle of the road as it gets and not assisted at all by the writing.

I've refused to call it anything but "Jurassic Pratt" for weeks now. Going to see it tonight at the local theater that has a great Tuesday/Thursday special. $6.50 tickets, $5 off pitchers of beer and $.45 cent wings. Hard to be too disappointed with that combo.

Ill watch jurassic world when it comes out. Not blown away by the reviews so far.

127 hours I took in last night while bored at home. WTF.... dude is amazing. I would have no doubt after 2-3 days just slit my left wrist to bleed out and die. Dont think I could have broke my bones then gnawd through my arm in a slight hope I would even make it alive to safety.I watched the real story about it after from Dateline NBC. Man is remarkable to say the least

That noise when he has to cut through his sinew.... ewwwww

Well, the wings were good and the beer was cold.

Maybe Tiny Rudd will be better than Jurassic Pratt.

i would be about 1000% more excited if edgar wright was still attached to direct.

it's a shame that marvel is so domineering that they can't keep good talent around (i'm not a fan of joss whedon, but even he said he can't take it anymore and he's the ultimate fanboi). at least if their domineering tendencies produced great product it might be excusable. instead, they just keep pumping out self-perpetuating middle of the road franchise material that for the most part avoids anything interesting in the name of maintaining a common aesthetic in all films.

The missus and I were watching Arnie pimping Genisys on a talk show earlier.

He was talking about the Conan movies being his breakthrough into the biz.

I asked my wife if she's seen the Conan flicks and she said "Yes, but all I remember is that a weasel dies at the end and it made me sad."

She's turning into her nan, evidently!

LMAO, that sounds like something I would get out of my wife verbatim.

Lucy. Loved it up until about 60%. Then it got too weird for me.
It was very 'Limitless' in feel. I enjoyed limitless much more. Although I really do like the concept of Lucy the ending was just odd.

I liked the first 45 minutes of Lucy. Once she became god like it got kind of boring.

To go seriously old school here - anybody seeing Jaws? I'm thinking of checking it out on the big screen at one of the special showings in my area. Seen it dozens of times, but never in a theater. Saw it with my parents in 75 at, if you can believe it, a drive in theater!!

yeah it's playing at two theaters here over the next few weeks. it's one of my favorite movies of all time and i've seen it on the big screen at least twice, but i'll always go back when it's playing. spielberg at his best imo.
