PCF Cigars (5 Viewers)

I'm playing tonight, what's the TLDR? Worth it? I really want one.

From the end:

SHOULD YOU BUY IT?

No.

You shouldn’t buy this humidor, but I’m not opposed to recommending someone explore buying a Waxing Moon humidor, I just think the customer needs to be very aware of what you are paying for. This is not going to be as refined of a product as most $500+ humidors, which I think is a choice. There are trade-offs, and Waxing Moon seems to have made some choices about how pretty the interiors will look. I’m guessing that if you spend enough money, they’ll get sanded down and finished as well as just about any humidor you could buy at a store, but not for $700. Then there are the real issues that I had—sap and the problems related to opening—which are problems that are probably related to the use of solid Spanish cedar. That’s a risk that you have to be willing to take if you are going to purchase a Waxing Moon humidor. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that those issues are more likely explained by chance than they are explained by either error in construction or user error. And if those issues didn’t emerge, I’d be writing about how this humidor is pretty easy to recommend.

There’s one thing that is clear to me, this shouldn’t be your first humidor. It probably shouldn’t be your third humidor.
If you are going to go down the rabbit hole of customizing a humidor and then living with a humidor that uses this much Spanish cedar, you should have some experience, both in terms of knowledge and patience. Otherwise, this isn’t likely to end well. So long as you understand all that and are willing to risk that it may not work out, I’m not opposed to making the gamble because if you avoid the issues I had, the value proposition is very high.

Just got into cigars and built 2 tupperodors to separate my regular from the infused sticks. I know some people call infused cigars “not real cigars”. But I figure sense I have never smoke anything before infused cigars would be a good start for me. How do you rate the cigars I have so far?

Smoke what you like. I keep a bunch of flavored cigars and after a weekend with a few friends that say those same things, they always seem to need to be re-stocked... In particular I like the Nub coffee line. Hard to beat coffee and a cigar on a peaceful morning.

If/when you branch out I'd suggest more of those Deadwoods and then something which isn't flavored but has a sweet tip.

Only thing I would recommend is that if you do branch out into un flavored stuff you store them in a separate tupedor. The flavoring will bleed over and is generally so powerful it's all you will get.

I don’t personally like infused cigars, but I also don’t personally like most sweet things. But if anyone categorically looks down on infused cigars, I’d suggest they’re a bit out of touch with the market.

This data claims that ~1/3 or cigars sold globally are infused, and ACID makes up like 40% of Drew Estates sales. Meaningful, verifiable, cigar industry data has always eluded me but I’ve always heard it said that infused cigars sell incredibly well. It doesn’t matter what snobs think, the public speaks differently.

If anyone has got $4,200 to drop on some data…..

Already on it :)

Drew Estates has quite a few lines too!

Hell yeah! Look at what I received today from @CraigT78 . Just awesome.

I purchased his sample sets and he threw in these awesome cigars for me to enjoy!

Very cool of him to do this and unexpected but I do appreciate them all very much and will be properly stored in my humidor. These will also be smoked when the time is right.

Thank you again Craig!

Below you will see the following cigars.
The two white bands are Cuban cigars.

A Liga Privada a by Drew Estate

A New World by A J Fernandez

A Fuente which is one of my favorite cigars to smoke!(y)

The PSD4 is my favorite. Probably biased because it was my first Cuban, but I’m envious. The cost of Cubans these days leave them so far off my ‘things I will buy and burn’ list…

The Cigars International/Cigar Bid (one and the same) distribution warehouse is 20 minutes from me (they are right next to Windcreek Casino in Bethlehem) and it still takes 3-4 days to be delivered, but none of that matters on delivery day :)

yes.... budget? I have each of these and I like all of them.

~200

This thing is kinda cool. I'm more fancy/flashy, but it's also got quite a good seal. It used to be made by Boveda but now this company actually has the rights to make them.

~300ish you can get these on sale if you wait a bit. Shipping would be a bitch but I've got a black one I'd sell you if you are interested.

~400-500
Go here and buy a daniel marshall for well below retail, the 'flaws' are marginal at worst apparently, even though the stuff that is built into the lid sucks awfully:
https://danielmarshallshop.com/collections/private-stock-collection

~750
This thing is amazing, you can get two Z60s for way less than half this price:

Ended up going with the Daniel Marshall humidor. 1st impression is that I like it. Thanks for the recommendation.

How much were import taxes etc, if you don't mind me asking, buddy? Box of 10?
Box of 10 yes. I’m not sure exactly how it all breaks down. Cost was $255 in total including the shipping.

The prices listed on their website is the only amount I’ve ever paid to get them to my front door.

And these come through always? Never an issue? How do you order? Share the magic that is Habanos
Ihavanas is the site you’re after. They’ve always consistent been delivered quickly and effectively to me. The QC on the sticks can be rough at times.

Prepare to balk at the prices of CCs these days

I personally have never had an issue with Ihavanas.com
In the past, most of my orders have taken approximately 3-4 weeks for delivery. Receiving my order in 8 days this time was surprising to say the least.

Ihavanas gives you an option when you order to have your cigars inspected before they ship. I’ve always used this option and have been satisfied with the quality of what I’ve received.
As @FestiveKnight mentioned, be ready for some sticker shock when you see the prices, they’ve gotten crazy expensive in the last couple years and it’s become rather difficult finding some of the more popular sticks.

These particular HDMs are one of my favorites.
